  1. How do I contact the author of that guide ? All links he has to CDShell are dead. Correct is http://www.cdshell.org/ Cheers Bob
  2. I love maths and it comes at no surprise to me that this news comes from an Indian friend !!! Recall having read something about the link of being raised in a culture with an intricated cosmology and politheism and the predisposition to maths and logic. Must be true Respect, Bob
  3. I am reading through that ... guru level One doubt I have ... I NEED a WINNT.SIF in order to load my SATA drivers !!! Am not quite sure of which lines I need there on top of those describing the drivers and PCI device ... Thanks, Bob
  4. Thank you so much. Great insight !!! Take care and may the force be with you, Bob
  5. Dear friends, I ALMOST have what I need. I would appreciate if you could help me spot what is missing/wrong from my WINNT.SIF in order to avoid the following interactions: 1) Install stops at "Regional Options" in which I need to change most things to "Italian". 2) There is a question on something like"Connected to LAN or directly to Internet" 3) There is a question on the name of my users I'd love to avoid all three stops. I am doing experiments with Daemon Tools to mount my ISO and VirtualPC to emulate the install and UltraISO to change the ISO .... COOOOL Follows my current WINNT.SIF. 6. Dear friends, whith your help and guides I have made a great unattended install CD for XP with SP2 and my SATA drivers slipstreamed and trimmed down with nLite (only bug I should not have eliminated IE ). The only problem I have is that if I need to use this disk to repair my system, in other words get the "Press R to initiate recovery" on blue screen, it will not work since it will procede silently to reinstalling. So the only solution I see, being very ignorant, is to build a second disk, always with SP2 and SATA but without any unattended installation. Is this the only way or are there some magical ways to define the unattended choices to that it will propose "Press R to restore" as the only question and if not chosen proceed silently to a full reinstall ? TIA, Bob
  7. No problem, I will explain it some more. (... snip ...) 1. Insert your unattended disk 2. open CMD (... snip ...) I tested it, and it worked Good luck! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My dear friend, thank you very much. Now I understand much better. You are very kind (and of course very knowledgeable). I will try out. Bob
  8. Sorry be patient but you must be talking to the dumbest of all users Did not understand. If I use my original XP CDROM (XP Pro with SP1a) I will be given the option of pressing R and use the recovery to chkdsk etc. Now probably because of my WINNT.SIF I am skipping this question whether I want to press R or Install XP ... I just want that white char/blue screen question again ... Hope I have managed to explain myself in this exotic language Thank you very much, Bob
  9. Dear nefound friends, thanks to some guide guide I found here I managed to solve my problem: slipstream SP2 on my XP SP1a Pro CD and above all slipstream my Abit NF7-S SATA drivers since I do not have a floppy on my machine (plus a nice nLite trimming of XP itself). THANK YOU ALL !!! But now the problems: 1) The reason for which I had started all this is to get to the recovery console (press "R") and fix a: Windows could not start because the following file is missing: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM problem. Now, I got so carried away by the "unattended" stuff that this screen was silently bypassed and I got more than I wanted: a fresh new installation I am appending my WINNT.SIF file at the bottom and I would be grateful if you could help me edit it so that the recover console option is presented (all the rest of an automated install is fine though !!!) 2) As a result of my "super-unattended" inst, instead of a fix of my XP I got an inst of a second instance. Now I have two XPs: a) a freshly installed one B) my older but heavily customized (user settings, installed proggies etc.) I am afraid I have a lot of duplicated stuff now Can you suggest the best way to proceed ??? Thank you very much, Bob ------------------- WINNT.SIF ----------------- ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=1 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes OemPnPDriversPath="Drivers\006\SI3112" TargetPath=\WINDOWS UnattendSwitch="no" DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=(...removed...)
