  1. Hello all, I know how to prepare an installshield installer for unattended install : 1. launch setup.exe -r to create a setup.iss "response file" 2. move the .iss to the setup directory 2. launch setup.exe -s to install unattended The problem : When I launch a setup.exe from a .cmd file I can't find a solution to wait the setup to complete... I tried start /wait but it didn't help. I tried start /wait setup.exe -s /w (as seen on install shield support : Q105473) Can someone give me a little hint ? thanks ! [sOLVED] A lillte more googling and I found it : unattended.sourceforge.net start /wait setup.exe -s /SMS
  2. I launch WPI for a w2000 install, the default resolution of w2000 during install is 640x480 (maybe it's 800x600 in XP ?) I don't want to solve problems of video drivers during unattended install, I mean : what if the drivers don't install correctly ? I won't be able to switch to 800x600... (am I wrong ?) So I prefer running WPI in a "compatible mode" so that it doesn't care wether the video driver is istalled or not... ths mean 640x480 I think you meant [...] VideoChanger.exe 640x480 [...] But thanks I'll try it ! In fact I've managed to run WPI in 640x480, but the problem is that the Exit button (Glossy Theme) is no longer visible... I think I'm going to create my own "640x480 compatible" theme... Thank you.
  3. I up this topic : I had the same problem ! Thank you Ghost82, you saved my life too (a bit too much ?) If there is a charitable person here who could make a FAQ, i think this question should be in it
  4. Hello all, I'm trying WPI for the first time. It seems to be a great tool ! Here is my question : Is there a simple way to force the resolution to 640x480 ? I tried to force it in the sizer() function of api.js : it works, but the display is truncated... Thank you for your help !
  5. OK, I think I'll let a "comfortable" amount of time before rebooting so that win can complete its tasks... It would be great if there was "trigger" (file, registry value ... ?) that is set after the process is complete... Does anyone know about that ? Thanks
  6. Hello all, Just a little question : In my unattend.txt I told windows to launch a script in the [GuiRunOnce] section to install some softwares... (logged as local admin) At the end of the script, I force the computer to reboot : %systemdrive%\Tools\shutdown /L /R /C /T:5 /Y Of course, I wait that all MY installation tasks in MY script are over before rebooting... BUT : It seems a lot of things occur on the first logon... (I don't have the list, it's sure the HDD is heating at this time !) What if I reboot the computer at this time if these tasks are not completed ??? Anyone has any idea ? Thanks !
  7. SOLVED I think (Answering myself...) It seems Kerio was blocking something (I was testing on Vmware) and the firewall on the host machine seems to mess the "joindomain" process. I've read somewhere that it could also come from the FQDN in the joindomain parameter... but I left the netbios name of my domain and it worked... So the firewall was probably the problem.. Bye
  8. Hello all, I'm doing an unattended setup for windows 2000. I set the JoinDomain option in the answer file, but the first "pre-logon" phase before the first "Ctrl+Alt+Del" prompt is VERY long... I'm quite sure it deals with the rights of my DNS server (on my win2K domain controler) : I can see my new PC in the "reverse" zone, but it is not listed in the "direct" search zone. It's strange because both zones have the same rights... I noticed I had no problem if I first join a workgroup (in unattended) and then join the domain "manually" Thanks for your advices ! P.S forgive me if the terms are not the real ones, I'm on a french version of win2K Gloubs
  9. @Oozaru Hehe ! it seems to be a good trick to try I'll have a look Thanks !
  10. @-I- Hehe... right... I'm going to have a look those multiboot CD's... and Partition Magic. Thanks ! @HwagPo I think -I- (not I ) is right : BartPE is quite "big" to do only a diskpart ... But If you want to know more : BartPE : try www.nu2.nu/pebuilder DISKPART : "similar" to fdisk, included in XP : see XP help Hope this will help... Bye
  11. Well, since nobody likes me ... I've tried this : 1st boot with my BartPE CD and run DISKPART : using this script : select disk 0 clean create partition primary size=6000 assign letter=c active create partition extended create partition logical assign letter=e Then formatting in NTFS (only e:) : format e: /fs:ntfs Then reboot with my unattend W2K CD : the setup starts and finds 2 partition : C: (not formatted) and D: ( ) (not e: ???) Anyway that's what I needed So I tell setup to install on C: and format in NTFS... And in my winnt.sif : ProfilesDir="d:\Documents and Settings" makes that document and settings is stored on the Pre-formatted D: drive ! I think all these steps could be usefull for a newbie like me... Forgive me if it's not perfect After this, here is my question : Why the drive letters are not the same ? I think I've seen that it's impossible with BartPE to tell the CD is letter Z: (for example)... could someone confirm ? Anyone having some hints / links to read about this ? Thanks!
  12. Hi all, I've build a quite good w2K unattended CD, but there is still one thing I'd like to enhance : It seems the setup program can only format the system destination partition... So If I'd like to use "Profilesdir=..." in winnt.sif to put "documents and settings" on another partition than the system partition, I have to format BEFORE launching my unattended setup... (am I right ) After a lot of google'ing and searches on the forum, I can't decide which technique I should use... I've seen people advising to use winPE (or BartPE) + diskpart... Others recommanding tools like partition magic... And I'm wondering if I should format in FAT32 then convert to NTFS or if I can format directly in NTFS. Could someone post some advices ? Thanks !
