  1. hello, my name is peter i found the site through googling various questions and the majority of the answers were on this board so decided to join. i finally decided to become an active member today and hope i can help a lot of people out as i've been modding windows now for a little over 5 years, the latest project i'm working on is a server 2003 modification which has media center ported to it (exe patch, no license modification). i'm a global moderator at joejoe.org and occasionally post at aeroxp and betaxp aswell.
  2. i would assume that the simplest method would be to put both exes in system32 and then make a batch handler for them then add it to the send to menu or something similar. varies from version to version, but for 2003 (which i assume you're going for) you need to dump the bitmap contents of ntoskrnl.exe if you have a single core processor or ntkrnlpa.exe if you have a multi core processor. from then you need to add a 16 bit pallet to the image and then you can edit them easily. remove the pallet when done and then replace the existing resources in your applicable nt*.exe file. i'm sure that there are apps available which can simplify the process but i can't remember any off the top of my head.
  3. afaik, that is caused by using icons that include vistas compressed 256x256 format. open it up in icon workshop, remove the 256x256 format, save the icon and try again
  4. i always use either IE7 or Firefox 2, both have good and bad points but Firefox sneaks ahead because of its plugins
  5. i vote for seagate, i'm running 2 in this computer without any problems whatsoever for the last few years now. out of all those hitachi is the worst for me, i lost 400GB+ of un-backed up data on a brand new drive after just a few days of it running due to it failing on me.
