  1. I tried with the wait values all the way down to 1. Seems to work just as well. Sometimes I do get a blue screen, at startup or when I run dxdiag, or just random, so I cant be sure what sets it off, settings are all the same. Sometimes works ok, even if I play file after file, sometimes just sitting idle. Anyway, it's a driver not even intended for this operating system. The benefit of the wait down to 1 is that the system is more snappy, regarding playing sounds, so I will keep it like this. Thanks! Cant play midi files, as this does not support it, but funny enough, in dxdiag it works, uses the Microsoft Synthesizer, a software midi interface, why not use that for windows as well.... What I suspect that is causing the blue screen is idle time...... if I leave it a minute or two without interaction then try to play something then maybe I get a blue screen.
  2. Wow....such a small file compared to the others, just 1.75k. It works, I listened to several MP3's on it. Thank You! If there's anything I can help you with, just let me know. Too bad there isn't a project to create a universal audio driver or network driver for win9x, like Universal VBE. I have on this thin client UVBE for video, a dos driver for network and a win3.x driver for audio. Maybe with time.
  3. EUREKA....it works, volume adjust as well. THANK YOU so much, seems to be working very well so far, it is late, I will test more tomorrow. HDAICIN.TXT
  4. This is the version I have sound in W98 after XP. HDAcfg.ini HDAICIN.TXT Hdaicout.hda.000 HDALOG.TXT
  5. The setting in HDACFG.INI was pcipatchB=$7900 for all the tests you told me so far. Tried the new version, results are as follows. 1. Off state to W98 with pcipatchB=$7900 - pop, no sound, reboot from XP, extremely faint pop but no sound. 2. Off state to W98 with pcipatchB=$0000 - pop, no sound, reboot from XP, no pop, no sound. Perhaps there was a pop, but I didn't pick it up. 3. Off state to W98 with pcipatchB=$6200 - pop, no sound, reboot from XP, extremely faint pop but no sound. 4 I did try again with HDAICOUT.HDA.000 with reboot from XP to have sound with all 3 pcipatchB settings, all work the same, I have sound. What I did notice with this one, that I didn't pick it up before, is, there is a double pop at startup.
  6. The speaker is broken, I don't have a replacement on hand. I tried the new version of debug. Very cold boot no pop, no sound. Reboot from XP, pop but no sound, tried several times, same behavior. Hdaicin.983 Hdaicin.XP3
  7. Thank you for your hard work, but alas no sound in win98. With this HDAICOUT version I do hear a pop at windows startup, so I guess it's on the right path, but no sound in windows. No sound after reboot from windows XP either, but the pop at startup is still there. The internal speaker doesn't work, not in WinXP either, now that you mentioned it, I will look at it to see why. Hdaicin.982 Hdaicin.XP2
  8. OK, so it's normal behavior for this driver. I've did what you asked. Changed to pcipatchB=$7900, deleted HDAICIN.TXT. Cold booted to Win98, cut HDAICIN.TXT, rename to HDAICIN.W98. Reboot to WinXP, reboot to W98, cut HDAICIN.TXT, rename to HDAICIN.WXP. I didn't have any sound this time from XP to W98, got the BSOD both times. Hdaicin.w98 Hdaicin.wxp
  9. I did what you said, sad to report that from off state straight to Win98 no sound, with either pcipatchB=$7900 or pcipatchB=$0000. From XP reboot to Win98 sound works with either pcipatchB=$7900 or pcipatchB=$0000. I ask again, with this driver the volume control on systray is supposed to apear? or not, being a 16 bit driver. Thank You!
  10. Seems to have changed. I've deleted HDAcfg.ini, HDALOG.TXT and HDAICIN.TXT, rebooted to create new ones. Now it says $0000. Forgot to mention I'm using Hdaicout.hda.000 file, as this is working with my codec Index HDAcfg.ini HDAICIN.TXT HDALOG.TXT
  11. Hello! I found this thread in my quest to install Win98SE on a DELL FX170 thin client that has an Intel Atom CPU and HDA audio. I read almost all of it, tried everything I could to get it working, but alas, victory eludes me. I was hoping to get some help. I installed the driver, tried all Hdaicout.hda files I found on this thread and none make the audio work at first boot. While I was trying all possible configurations to make this work I did have sound in Win98SE (at least the startup sound). This happened because I have a dual boot system, 98SE/XP, and in XP there are working drivers. If I boot first windows XP and the CODEC is initialized, then I reboot into Win98SE and I have sound. So I guess the XP driver starts-up the CODEC and even after reboot the CODEC is still active, but if I boot directly to Win98SE I get no sound. Also I have the BSOD after Win98 startup, but I managed it with vcache setting, I tried 8192 and the error got delayed, so I tried next 16384 and seems to work, but I think it is only just a bigger delay, will have to see. How much vcache I can set? When the sound works I don't have the sound volume icon in systray, is this normal? Also, there a pops and crackle when I try to play sounds at startup and end, could this be fixed or is normal? The codec is an VIA VT1708B (eye read value). Thank You in Advance!
