I increased the page file to 32GB and it helped a bit.
I also use --enable-rgba-4444-textures

Your results?
I've tested this flag and NONE of the SEVERAL quantifiable measurements (ie, the only real way to truly eliminate Placebo Effect) shows any "considerable" performance difference.
The most effect of it when you have a motherborad with HPET off.

OT , but which specific version of CatsXP was XP-compatible?
OT.
Last Vista one was probably based on Chrome 85, if I'm not mistaken. XP, most likely from 2016.

This is true in Supermium, Thorium, CatsXP, Chromium ESR 92, and Chromium ESR 108. In XP only.
Hmm... are any of these work on XP? CatsXP doesn't even start on Vista without Kernel.

Yes.

FWIW, take note of:
https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/531
that is, if you're gonna use the provided installer to perform an "on-top update" (update a previous Sm installation), better reboot your OS before doing so (registry-entries related issue ...).
This is only Windows 7 related.

They say you need to launch from a specially created icon (shortcut), did you do that?

Probably add --wm-window-animations-disabled to reduce memory and CPU cycles.
