  1. hey thx!! this one at least could extract the file...
  2. Either could the others...they would unzip the file to a folder but it would be empty...every time! But if I open Tugzip or Izarc, then I can get to the files in the zip OK....BUT with either I still can't extract them to a directory using dnd (like C:\Temp)....get a Windows error.....Can not move file: File system error (1026) If I try to select a file within the archive program and select extract, it won't work...at least Izarc errors....Tugzip doesn't do anything so it seemed to work...but the directory is empty!! Did any one actually TRY extracting or is the info based on how it should work?
  3. Probably you can extract the update's contents with Winzip, Winrar or Tugzip. Right click on the file, and select "Open with Winzip". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmm...I tried with Izarc (another good zip program) and it would not unzip the exe.... Did anyone try this and it worked? If so, what zip proggie? thx...
  4. ok horsecharles, I have the file....now how do I extract the dlls? Can't unzip it... or are you saying to run this update on my 98SE with the 2 modified dll files? thx!
  5. I could always create a batch file to replace those 2 files...so far, the 5.5 files work great. [OT] - Not only am I not hanging on big deletes, but *so far* the dibeng.dll errors I would get using my fav browser (maxthon) have disappeared...don't know if it'd coincidental or not...but maxthon would crash almost daily. The only program...but the one I use most. Errors started happening ONLY when I changed my mb to one that had integrated graphics w/Intel 810e....got the proper drivers, all possibilites checked, etc... [/OT] Anyway - I am so used to Explorer...and if I want to wipe files, then I rightclick and wipe 'em with BCwipe instead of just deleting them...
  6. What I am saying is that IF you replace the 2 files, you will be prompted to update again.... Here's what I did: Replaced the 2 files... Checked update, was told to updateto KB867282... Did it and one of the 2 files was replaced.. Again, updated the 2 files... Checked update again and was asked to install KB867282 again!! Hmmmm..... PS - replacing those 2 files works great, btw....I can delete to my hearts content with no freezing, etc....
  7. I tried this yesterday...so I will see how deleting a large amt of files works, soon! What I did notice (or is it coincidence?) is that when I went to the MS update page, it said I should install the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB867282)... Is that because of replacing the 2 files? Guess I could check it out.... [edit1] yes, one of the 2 is changed...(I forgot which one, I think it was browselc ) [/edit1]
  8. hahaha....yes, but too bad it can't be used, too!!
  9. I have had that problem on multiple machines (all 98SE). I equate it to the updates....when I updated everything properly, all of a sudden my OE wouldn't work!! Same error. So what I did: 1. Zipped all files in the OE directory (just in case!). 2. Delete all the files except the zip file, of course. You have to delete the files or it won't work... 3. Run the IE6setup.exe file 4. Select custom, the select Outlook Express (it will already be bolded like it's OK) 5. Let it dl, install, etc... Now you should be fine again.... Jeff
