  1. We have a few computers. All have Windows XP. All but one can print fine to the network printers. The one that cannot, when I go to the printer properties, ports tab, will not keep the setting when we check the appropriate network port. I think this may be related to the problem. My google search string: "windows xp" -vista printer driver network port driver ("will not" OR wont) stay checked has not yielded anything helpful. Any suggestions where to turn next? Thank you.
  2. I'm finally migrating from 2000 Pro to XP. I received a copy of Windows XP Home (legal and not used). I'd like to upgrade it to XP Pro. Is there a low cost way to go from XP Home to XP Pro? Can one simply purchase a license/key and use a Home CD to install Pro via the PID? The India/South Africa CSRs I've reached by phone were not terribly helpful.
  3. I removed my EIDE drive from my self-built system. This left only my RAID1 SATA drives. I removed the first partition, then recreated it, but on install, that partition comes up as "D", and the second partition comes up as "C". I tried again since it may have been caused by removing the partition, but this time did not remove it. I still have the same issue. Naturally since each of these is a system or boot volume, I can't change it in the gui. 2 questions: How can I fix the drive letter designations? How can I fix the stupid 8mb unpartitioned space? I've removed the 8mb unpartitioned space before by formatting with a tool outside WinXP setup, but I'm wondering if there is a way to do this with WinXP setup.
  4. Sorry to bring this to the top again, but since I brought it up on the weekend, I'd like try one more time to see if anyone can answer this post. Does anyone have an answer?
  5. I want to: Run a program on a CD without an autorun.inf file Use a shortcut, batch or script to launch it's executable Use any available CD ROM drive (the drive letter can vary) How can I do this? I'm looking for something similar to: cdrom://runme.exe That's how I'd do it in Linux, anyway. Is there a way to do this in windows 2000 Pro? If not, what third party options are there? Thank you in advance.
  6. Solved! This works, unless you create the partitions with the Disk Management mmc. I finally backed up all my data to DVDs, and repartitioned during textmode setup. Now whenever I go back to textmode setup, it sees the partitions properly. I'm not sure why there's a difference, but it may be related to this: Before, Disk Management said each partition was "Dynamic". Now it simply says "Healthy". I'm not even sure if that matters, but in case someone else ever comes accross this issue, you'll need the Promise FastTrak 376 drivers, and you must partition in textmode setup... Thank you Fernando. I've now solved this. It appears I don't need the nvatabus.sys or the nvraid.sys files. I only needed the FastTrak drivers. See my post from a few minutes ago. I recently tried nLite, and it has improved dramatically since I first tried it. I may just move away from the manual method and use nLite now!
  7. I think so, but I never tried it. You have to use the W2k drivers instead of the XP ones. This didn't seem to work for me. I'm working on this issue in another thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST...t=0#entry482943 My motherboard info and other details are there. If you have any ideas, please post them there. I can later post any solution here, I just want to keep all suggestions in one place. Thanks in advance.
  8. Thank you. I tried this now: txtmode.sif additions to integrate nv drivers and fasttrak drivers [SourceDisksFiles] nvraid.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 NvAtaBus.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 nvcchflt.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 fasttx2k.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_008E = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0085 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00D5 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00EE = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E3 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E5 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0035 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0036 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_003E = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0053 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0054 = "nvatabus" PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0055 = "nvatabus" GenNvRaidDisk = "nvraid" *_NVRAIDBUS = "nvraid" PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_3376 = "fasttx2k" [SCSI.Load] nvatabus = nvatabus.sys,4 nvraid = nvraid.sys,4 fasttx2k = fasttx2k.sys,4 [SCSI] nvatabus = "NVIDIA NForce Storage Controller (required)" nvraid = "NVIDIA RAID CLASS DRIVER (required)" fasttx2k = "Win2000 Promise FastTrak 376 (tm) Controller" One possible problem is how to tie nvcchflt.sys into [HardwareIdsDatabase], [sCSI.Load], and [sCSI]. I couldn't tell from the txtsetup.oem how to do so. I've verified I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard, but I couldn't find any information on MSI's site on how to upgrade the FastTrak controller's BIOS - if it's even possible. I'll update the attachments in my original post with the 2 txtsetup.oem files and my latest txtsetup.sif. Any other ideas? Thanks to anyone who can help. Any other ideas?
  9. I got some different drivers, and it works... almost. Now I'm using fasttx2k.sys, and I put these lines in txtsetup.sif: [SourceDisksFiles] fasttx2k.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_3376 = "fasttx2k" [SCSI.Load] fasttx2k = fasttx2k.sys,4 [SCSI] fasttx2k = "Win2000 Promise FastTrak 376 (tm) Controller" Now setup sees the stripe RAIDed drives as one drive, but now I have a new problem... I have 2 existing partitions. Setup sees only the extended partition, and thinks it's the primary partition. Interestingly enough, it's using the volume label for the primary partition it's not seeing, not the partition it is seeing. Any ideas from anyone? Thank you in advance.
  10. Edit with update: Thank you. I just tried this, and it didn't seem to work. I tried all the different driver versions it recommends, and even combined them with the fasttrak drivers. I still have the same issue. I'll bring this up in that thread as well.
  11. Thank you. I'll check the BIOS. I think I have the latest. Did you mean txtsetup.sif? txtsetup.oem is not part of textmode setup as I understand it. Also, I tried to install on an IDE drive to see if I got any errors. I got this:
  12. OK, the "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" was because I was booting from a dvd drive attached to my promise ATA card. I can now get to the menu to manage partitions, but it does not show my SATA RAID drives. Any ideas?
  13. I have a K7N2 Delta2-LSR motherboard. This motherboard supports NV RAID SATA interface. I want to add the drivers to text mode setup, but it's not working yet. Some internal references I'm using: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=14852 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=13173 I've added these lines to txtsetup.sif: [SourceDisksFiles] nvraid.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_008E = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0085 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00D5 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00EE = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E3 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00E5 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0035 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0036 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_003E = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0053 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0054 = nvatabus PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0055 = nvatabus [SCSI.Load] nvatabus = nvraid.sys,4 [SCSI] nvatabus = "NV2 RAID Driver" I'll attach txtsetup.sif and txtsetup.oem, zipped. Thank you in advance. nvtxtsetup.oem.zip txtsetup.sif.zip FastTrakTxtstup.oem.zip
  14. I have the same question. I'd like to use the original file rather than the one submitted below. Last time I checked, you had to do these steps to silently install dxsetup.exe (directx9.0c): Download the file Extract the file into some folder in svcpack (dx9c) Place this line in svcpack.inf: dx9c\dxsetup.exe /silent This was because the original setup file did not support the switches. Also, the extracted file didn't support the switches properly, but it worked with the /silent switch. Is this still the case for this Feb 2006 release? I checked the guide, but it's still using dx9.0b... Thanx in advance.
