i've placed KB890830 is SVC-MRT but it was not installed...
Did you add the following registry entry?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT]
"Version"="805647C6-E5ED-4F07-9E21-327592D40E83"
Isn't this entry for tricking the WU, so it won't be installed?
when I XPCREATEd version 1.1 of this hotfix it word perfectly...
You can do just the registry entry. But on my build, with the software installed, it still shows in WU, even with the April version.

Still wondering why it worked for homiebrah..
I don't use XPlode, so that may be the reason why.

10x, every1...
What about the: WindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86.exe?
That one should work fine in SVC-HF1. Or, you can integrate it into your source using the /integrate switch.

MSI Problem solved, it was the acrobat reader that gave control back to the install, but wasn't finished yet.
But still no go for Messenger 5
I made an iexpress package with messenger.msi in it following: http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/IEXPRESS/iexpress.htm
but still no messenger 5, but the messenger 4.7 directory is empty, except for one file lvback.gif so something started but didn't finish (?)
homiebrah did you install 4.7 or did you exclude it in winnt.sif?
SVC-EXE is where mine is.

Shouldn't be that big of a deal to figure out where they go. Drop 'em somewhere, test it out, and post results.
Makes GM's job a little easier.

I think I'll give GM the benefit of the doubt and not speculate why he doesn't respond back. Seems like everyone else should as well, since HE did go through the trouble to update the previous version of XPC, while maintaining a life at the same time.
@ GM: take your time, bro. We'll still be here.

Used for creating the CD. The files are copied to the HDD during the blue screen portion of Setup.

Hi everybody!!
so I will look for some soft that check file versions.
You put the files in FILESCD. XPC does not. Seems that point is getting lost somewhere in the translation.

QCHAIN is used to chain multiple patches together. It is not needed if using XPC, since it does its own thing with them, unless you have to run them on the first logon. You aren't being specific on the exactl files, but again, anything in the FILESCD is what you put in there.

FILESCD is used for users to place files they will need. For instance, in FILESCD\I386, you would find the winnt.sif file, which is only updated by the user. Other locations, i.e. $OEM$\xxx are done by the user as well. XPCREATE does not verify if one file is newer than the other. It just copies them over during the process.
To sum it up, users need to check version dates. XPC does not do it for you.

What method do you use to install your .msi files?
0 -
Wrap the .msi file in iexpress and place in SVC-EXE. Simple as that.
The command line for iexpress setup is msiexec /qn /i messenger.msi
If you are using the file from the 5.1 download link in this thread.

WI 3.0 appears to install fine on W2K Server. I put it in SVC-HF1. XPCreate renamed it MSI30_NET in the svcpack file and folder. I burned a disk and installed with it. Its listed in the Add/Remove programs list. Is there another way to verify?
Type msiexec /? from a RUN line and look at the top of the options. It will list the version. I am currently running 3.01.4000.1207, which is the RC for 3.1. It is placed in SVC-HF1 and works fine.

Once you learn the basics, you can create little gems like mine in no time at all. It took me over an hour to do my first.

If possible, burn the CD, and then mount it in VMWare. Test it there. If it works, go for it. If not, reburn at lower speeds, and remount.
This is how I do it on my machine at home.

It was posted here, but not everyone goes to that part of the site, myself included. Surprised I didn't get notified through email subscription to MS.

Microsoft updated Media Player 10 somewhat quietly and unobtrusively as well.

Try this for sliiming down the source:
http://unattended.msfn.org/advanced/space_saving_tips.htm
You might also try nLite against the source as well, to remove items you will not need. nLite has its own forum on this board, under Member Contributed Projects.

Thanks, BZ. I ended up creating the folders based on GM's site, but wanted to ask the question anyways, in case I wasn't the only one.
I originally was going to handle it through the mail lists, and wait to see if GM was going to open this forum up to both versions. But, since it appears that it has, I'll know to use it in the future.
Now, to get my hotfix lists together for use locally.

GM,
Seems the ner version that you sent me the link for is not creating the SVC and other folders. It goes straight to finding the boot record, which of course it does not find.
Any ideas? The zipped up logfile was sent to the mailing list for thoughts.
