no I don't use xplite, rpc locator turnd on/off doesn't make any difference. DHCP Client turnd on

Hey there e(X)tra(P)roffesionals... I have a question that I hope someone could answer. About a month ago I have installed XP SP2 on my friends machine. Did some tweaking using guides I found on the net. Everything was fine untill one day that net died. Problem is that IP cannot be renewed, ipconfig shows 0.0.0.0, subnet the same. it returns error: The RPC server in unavailalbe. I've been seeking thru net resources, but could't find anything helpful. Is there anything else than XP rein? Thhhanks for your attention..
