  1. never noticed this behaviour before until today - stuck a copy of the xp sp3 source files I386 directory into $oem$\$1\source after setup completes, it has copied to c:\source correctly but it seems to have expanded any files that were in a compressed state so on the source it is 546,941,474 bytes and on the destination it is now 1,034,816,478 bytes in size I'd like it to copy over the files unaltered, can this behaviour be changed ? thanks, Em Kay
  2. oh look, a technical bulletin - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechS...D_DD041026_CW01 and a microsoft hotfix - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;883667 OEM Windows XP Setup program may stop responding during video driver installation applies to all computers using the Intel 915G chipset
  3. fyi, dc7100 hanging with sysprep - turns out it was certain types of monitor causing this fix - not sure yet thanks, Em Kay
  4. sorry guys, been busy mucking around with my unattend.txt for a whole week now... I've been through every single line and I have traced the problem to - [unattended] ExtendOemPartition=1 if I remove this line, no restart message ! however, the way I have my unattended install at the moment is as an image of a 4gb FAT32 bootable partition containing all the required install files. I386, apps; drivers etc.. I drop this via Altiris rdeploy to the target pc, reboot and install commences - don't have to use any cdroms...its a bit like a RIS solution however, on the target pc I want it to use the whole drive, so I've got ExtendOemPartition=1 in my attend.txt - if I can't get around the restart message I might have to use rdeploy to resize the partition first. thanks, Em Kay
  5. the pc's a HP/Compaq DC7100, heres my unattend.txt - [Data] AutoPartition=1 MsDosInitiated=0 UnattendedInstall=yes AutomaticUpdates=yes [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=yes OemPreinstall=yes UnattendSwitch=yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS OemPnPDriversPath="_itconf\drivers\PC922A\audio\SMAXWDM\W2K_XP;_itconf\drivers\PC922A\chipset\ICH6\XP;_itconf\drivers\PC922A\ethernet;_itconf\drivers\PC922A\video\Win2000" DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore FileSystem=ConvertNTFS ExtendOemPartition=1 [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="password" EncryptedAdminPassword=NO AutoLogon=Yes AutoLogonCount=1 OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=85 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductKey=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx FullName="NAME" OrgName="ORGANIZATION" ComputerName=* [Display] BitsPerPel=32 Xresolution=1024 YResolution=768 Vrefresh=75 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 SystemLocale=00000809 UserLocale=00000809 InputLocale=0809:00000809 [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes [GuiRunOnce] %systemdrive%\_itconf\install\post.cmd pretty basic unattended install so far, shutdown message isn't causing any problems other than looking pretty stupid stuck there on the screen while all the apps install via post.cmd thanks, Em Kay
  6. Just before my post.cmd file specified in [GuiRunOnce] runs and installs all my non-pnp drivers and applications, I get the following dialog box - System Settings Change - Windows has finished installing new devices, do you want to restart your computer now ? Yes/No This stays on the screen while all my applications install, then I perform a reboot and the end. It looks unprofessional, so I would like to get rid of it, any ideas ? thanks, Em Kay
  7. I use the check WMI & update HAL post sysprep method for hyperthreading machines, I have found the best way is with devcon, see example 44 at msdn - http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....41d1c74.xml.asp
  8. No ideas yet, but we have the same problem - on some DC7100 and not others... pain in the a*se these machines... Hangs on mini-setup, reboot and they complete correctly. If I find anything when I look into it properly next week, I'll let you know. thanks, Em Kay
  9. 1. can't use cmdlines.txt fixed this, you still need $oem$ under the I386 directory to use cmdlines.txt everything seems to be working great - just need to stop windows copying all the files from c:\I386 to a temp directory during the text setup mode how can I convince it all the required files are already in c:\i386 ?? thanks, Em Kay
  10. I fancy creating a restorable disk image (using something like ghost) that is basically a 4gb fat32 drive partition with the all XP SP2 media; application ad installation scripts stored locally. This would be like the computers that ship with a recovery partition, the image is restored and then the unattended install of xp would be initiated. I wouldn't need to worry about the $OEM$ structure because all the files would already be in the right place and the I386 source files would remain locally on the hard disk if the user wanted to add additional components. A few issues encountered already - 1. can't seem to use cmdlines.txt 2. winnt.exe first seems to copy all the files again to a temp directory - is there something that can tell it it's files are local already and cut down on this time ? 3. sourcepath in registry still reflects that it has been installed from a cdrom 4. boot.ini leaves entries behind for previous versions of windows any help appreciated, thanks, Em Kay
