  1. I am trying to upgrade several W2K workstations to XP Pro without a CD. I have given up on trying to install from a network distribution point because the PC would reboot and start the text setup portion where it couldn't access the network (duh) and would error saying couldn't copy the file oemsetup.inf file. I did try the /makelocalsource switch like someone suggested. Same thing. So then I tried copying the source files to the local C drive and ran the unattended setup from there, but I am getting the same message. Any suggestions?
  2. Okay here is what I think is happening now. It starts the upgrade with no problem. Then the PC restarts and enters the text setup portion. This is where it fails because it is trying to copy files from the network and of course, it has no network at this point. Is there a way to specify for it to copy the files to a temporary location on the hard drive and then instruct it to copy the files from there? Or is this only possible through a batch file or RIS?
  3. I apologize. I posted it again because I figured it was being ignored because of the subject. I am just really frustrated with this and could really use some advice from someone who has done this successfully.
  4. Can I ask what you did to get the installation working with the sif file? What needs to be in the sif file besides the two lines you mentioned? Thank you.
  5. I am getting frustrated with this whole process. All I want to do is perform an unattended upgrade from windows 2000 pro to windows xp pro from a network share point. Every time I try it, it seems to crap out at a different point. I am using the NTUpgrade=Yes line in the winnt.sif, but it still seems to want to install a fresh copy of xp which basically is stopping it at the text setup portion waiting for user input. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Okay. My first attempt was a miserable failure. Everything seemed to be going fine but after the XP reboot, I lost remote communication to PC. After going to the PC, I realized that it was not doing an upgrade, but a new XP install. It was asking me if I wanted to format the partition or leave the file system as is. After exiting out of the setup I saw that I had the Windows 2000 Professional and the Windows XP Professional Setup as options. Where did I go wrong? Please help.
  7. Please forgive my ignorance as I am new here (this is my first post). Even if you could direct me to a thread that helps me that would be great. Here is my situation. We have about 150 workstations that are currently running Windows 2000 Professional and we are in the process of upgrading them to XP SP2. Following is the process we have been doing so far: 1. Remove any spyware from the PC. 2. Run the Setup program from the XP SP1 CD (which we have dumped to a network share) 3. Choose Upgrade 4. Input the product key (open license) 5. After XP finishes we then install SP2 6. We then have to wait and choose not to Automatic Update & disable firewall. I knew that there had to be an easier way and this is how I found this site. I haven't seen anything specific on here for upgrading. Is there a guide for preparing an upgrade unattended directly to SP2? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
