safely remove hardware icon doesn't work windows 7
The one in questin is a Seagate Black Armour external drive which I have been using for over a year with no problems. It is set as Fast Removal (Standard). I have had no problems in the past, and I can't pinpoint when the icon stopped working. It used to work with usb sticks etc. but not anymore. I have the feeling that a Windows update might have caused it, but I can't imagine which one.

safely remove hardware icon doesn't work windows 7
Hi All, I have a problem in windows 7 pro 64 bit. The icon for safely removing hardware doesn't work anymore. When I click on it nothing happens. I tried the - RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll - workaround but all I get from that is a message that the usb device is not removable. Any ideas what could be the problem. Chris

The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
Is it worth updating the firmware? I followed the link to it and downloaded the .exe and the iso. Am I right in thinking that I can just start the .exe and things will happen intuitively as long as I point to the right disc? Or is it better to use the iso? I am using a laptop and the sick drive was in a Seagate external drive.

The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
It worked!!! Brilliant!! :D  :thumbup I can't thank you guys enough you've saved my bacon. Data is being copied while I type. It would appear that patience is required on a job like this. I just waited and eventually I was able to enter data, weird. All my wife's collages and designs are saved, she is overjoyed. The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
Ok I did that and went throught the spin down and up and powered down and after a minute powered up again. The CTRL-Z returned a F3 T> as expected and then nothing. I can't enter m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 or do a CTRL-Z, no reaction from the hyperterminal.

The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
Hi, I think i've fried my drive now. I got the loopback working on the replacement adapter and got as far as the m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22, but I missed the last comme and wrote m0,2,2,0,0,0,022 which gave me an incorrect command warning. Now I can't access my drive on the hyperterminal, can't even get the CTRL-Z prompt to work. Should I start the process over again or would that make matters worse?

jaclaz, thanks for the information, I'll try that as soon as I get a chance. Yes it is that adapter and I already contacted the vendor and he replied that if it doesn't work he'll send me a new one, fair enough. Chris I just checked it and it looks like DOA. At least all is not yet lost

The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
Hi, I have sick 7200.11 and am trying to revive it long enough to rescue the data. Unfortunately I am stuck at the beginning. The loopback doesn't work. I have the " FT232BM/BL Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 Firmware Fix tool, complete, USB powered" from ebay and have connected as instructed. My computer knowledge is not too good but I can follow the instructions ok. My first problem was setting up hyperterminal, so maybe there is something amiss there. I set the connection as indicated, and then checked the device manager and did the same there. The com3 was set different to the connection in the hyperterminal so I changed that. I shorted out the RX and TX pins but get nothing on the screen when I type on it, so that means the loopback doesn't work. Could it be that my converter is defect? I am using a laptop with usb2 and winXP and when I plug the converter in I get the red and green leds light up initially. I have read all the important posts/threads but I am stuck. Any ideas? Should the com3 have the same settings as the hyperterminal? I'd be grateful for any help Chris
