  1. @jaclaz My original question was related to Open Source or Freeware solution, but I couldn't find anything in my search except for that program. The BartPE solution is okay if nothing else work. I would ideally like to have it so that I don't have to reboot. What I want to do is bring a drive with Firefox, Thunderbirds, and other programs to work so I can check mail and run those without having to install those programs to the work comp. I know there are portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird, but since I didn't make it myself, I don't particularly trust the package (I'm just a bit paranoid!) and there are other apps that have no portable versions. I'll take a look at the links provided, thanks!
  2. Thanks for all the feedback. I've been searching online and found this: Thinstall It creates an exe that contain a vitual file system and virtual registry and leave zero footprint. Has anyone use this?
  3. Hi all, I was curious if anyone has tried to install and run apps from a USB thumb drive. I want to do this so I can bring apps from one computer to another. Is it possible to do it without leaving any registry keys and such on the computer after the drive has been removed. I know there are apps out that only has the exe and writes nothing to the registry, but what about those that do? Is there a way to make a "fake" registry hive and other folders on the thumb drive and fool the program into using that registry and folders? I know that Iomega has that Active Disk thing, but it's proprietary. Thanks
  4. Check this site, it's for 1.5.0 but I think it will work for 1.5.0.2 (I haven't tested). <jre>.exe [/L<language ID>] /s /v"/qn [ADDLOCAL=jrecore[,extra][,other_US] | ALL] [iEXPLORER=1] [MOZILLA=1] [iNSTALLDIR=<drive>:\<install_path>] [REBOOT=Suppress] [JAVAUPDATE=0] [CUSTOM=1]" http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/...ide/silent.html
  5. thanks everybody. the "/S" switch works perfectly!
  6. Hi all, I'm trying to get WinRAR to install silently. I extracted the SFX to wrar342 and put my rarreg.key into the extracted folder, then create an SFX of that folder and add the comments from the original installer + Silent = 1. However, when I run it, WinRAR install just fine but at the end a window pops up asking me to choose what extension to associate WinRAR with. I remember there being a way to have it so that window doesn't pop up, but it was a part of the Application install page on the Unattended guide which is no longer there. Anyone has any idea? Thanks in advance!
  7. Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, if not please move it. What I want to do is create a batch or cmd file to move a shortcut from the desktop to quick launch. This will be part of my clean up since I like to move shortcuts around. Also, is there a way to delete unwanted shortcuts from the desktop or quick lanch? Thanks
  8. Thanks, I'll give that a try. On a related note, can you edit the registry using a batch file? I would think that you would need to make a .reg file and then call that in the batch. If that's the case, how do you do it?
  9. Hi everyone, I was wondering if there's a way to repackage installation files? For example, I want to create say Apps.exe that when run will silently install say AIM, WinRAR, and etc. There would be a screen to select which apps you want to install. Do I make sense and if yes is this possible? I'm totally new to this stuff so be gentle.
