  1. Is there a way I can disable SIB momentarily without uninstalling it? Doing some tests in WSB and it would come in helpful so I can use an 8.1 theme instead of SIB's 8 theme compatibility.

There is, In the Advanced tab all the way in the bottom it says: Disable StartIsBack

Wow I looked in there right before I posted but apparently missed it, thanks :)

  2. It is the intention - when glow.bmp is not present, it uses standard DrawThemeTextEx API flag DTT_GLOWSIZE with glow size set to 5. Putting glow image (as well as aero stripes) directly into atlas is planned but I am not sure how it will work in Win8.1.

Bit late here, but both images already exist in the msstyles, Stripes is Class: DWMWindow, Part 63, State 0 and Text Glow is DWMWindow, Part 48, State 0

Though by default the text glow is a blank image and the stripes are now just a subtle gradient that only shows on the aero peek windows.

  3. PandaX, i still can't reproduce this. Are you using VM? Screen corners are known to behave differently under VM(Ware).

    No, native install, no mods/themes.

It seems to click through so if it's on a transparent pixel of the button I'm just clicking the taskbar, if my cursor hits the flag where there's not a completely transparent pixel it highlights. But this doesn't happen on my primary monitor, it highlights/clicks wherever so long as it's within the window's rectangle.

  4. Found a slight issue, if I go over to the very left of the screen and click start nothing happens. Right clicking brings up the context menu for the taskbar. It seems that either the button itself is offset by a little bit or there's something covering it up. Once you click the button and it's focused, you can still open it on the very left edge and it works fine.

To reproduce click the desktop then try opening the start menu by the very left edge. I believe it has something to do with the corner navigation even though I have all that disabled.

Found that this only happens on my secondary monitor, primary it works like it should in that it always highlights/clicks when the cursor is on the far left.

  6. Yeah i know you pushed the pixels to make the arrow blend in.

Wouldn't it be better to make skinnable arrow? I'll try to find a part we can use.

Do you mean the arrow next to menu items like Administrative Tools?

  7. If it was an upgrade install then try removing it and then installing it again, I had the same problem after I did a upgrade install on the 8.1 RTM leaked install.wim I managed to get the wim to install with many problems then just refreshed it again when the untouched ISO's were released, I don't know if it will help at all though, maybe even try Revo Uninstaller and make sure everything is removed and try again, also not sure if it makes any difference but I always select the install for everyone option.

It's a completely fresh install on a freshly formatted HD from the ISO and not the .wim.

I've completely uninstalled it and deleted settings/license data and tried installing it again this time selecting the for everyone option. Still doesn't do anything.

  8. Do you mean that it doesn't show the advanced stuff (Windows 8.1's native right-click Start Button options) in Win+X or it literally doesn't show "Properties" (where we can configure StartIsBack+)?

It just doesn't show "Properties", the Win+X menu is just default.

  9. Just my luck I suppose. The install went through fine and restarted explorer, however start/winkey just opens the start screen and there's no Properties in the Win+X menu.

    On x64 as well.

  10. +1.0 RC2

Fixed a lot of issues, including:

    - start menu showing on incorrect monitor

    - start button sliding into another monitor

    - start button stucking in pressed / hover states

    - shutdown button Windows Update notify not applying sometimes

    - start button / Windows key not working in very rare cases

This is the last RC planned. PandaX, can you please do debug log for your issue?

It isn't giving me much but:

    00000001	0.00000000	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000002	0.28051630	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000003	0.48843607	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000004	3.49637175	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000005	56.60747147	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000006	57.98371506	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000007	60.27150345	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000008	62.46351624	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000009	63.58355331	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000010	63.95150375	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000011	64.45545197	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000012	64.98354340	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000013	69.27146149	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000014	168.71900940	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000015	172.89480591	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard	00000016	174.35098267	[3424] Win: pressed on keyboard

PID 3424 is explorer.exe. The key event is still going through, but even with the latest RC it's still not working all the time.

  11. Start button still isn't opening the start menu unfortunately. Still on 8.1 preview. This time it won't do so no matter what. Ctrl+Start still works.

Interestingly enough I clicked the taskbar to focus it, hit the WinKey and Chrome focused

  12. I've been having a strange issue for the last few builds where hitting the WinKey doesn't open SIB, however Ctrl+Win still opens the start screen. Has any one else experienced this?

I did on 9471. Do you have Windows long-press configured? Try setting it to "Do nothing" if so, it could fix this.

It was already set to do nothing, I've changed it to another option, applied, and changed it back to do nothing and applied again. Didn't work. Though apparently it depends on what program is focused. For example if Skype (desktop) is focused it won't work.

Also when finding out how to reproduce it with Skype I noticed some odd behavior. If Chrome is focused and I hit the Win key the start menu open, but if I hit it again Skype will focus, instead of going back to focus Chrome.

Edit: Apparently doesn't work with Notepad++, WSB, or Steam focused as well.

  13. Curious, could you modify the start menu where behind the programs list, more programs, and search box can use blur? In 7 and 8 you have to set some ridiculous content margins to the basic open box (part #18) like 0, -200, -2000, -1998 in order for blur to work behind those parts.

  14. I just can say that achieving simple transparency in Win8.1 is much much easier than in Win8.

    win81_transparency.jpg

Strange how the colorization now replaces the text glow.

Notice that the window "glass" has another glow effect (no glow effect at all, but different from ather wondows)? WTF?

Ribbon windows don't use the same glow effect as regular windows do. Text glow on the Ribbon is still possible, but no longer possible it seems on non-Ribbon windows. Adding back the properties and the glow image yields no results. That image just confirms it, instead of using the old glow image from the DWMWindow class in the msstyles it's drawing the colorization color behind the text instead.
