  1. Yesterday, instead of switching the systems, I installed Windows 2000 again on C:, starting the installation from Windows XP, because the system was compromised after changing the ACPI to "ACPI Multiprocessor" in Device Manager. The solution to start the installation of Windows 2000 from XP was simple. I have just substituted the 2K's winnt32.exe with XP's winnt32.exe. After the installation I was searching a solution for the problem of the Internet connection. And I have found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318584 Now the Internet works fine I'm writing from Windows 2000 using the Atheros wireless adapter The only big problem left, aside the IDE mode, is the ACPI. Now it's simply Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (PC). Since this entry must be left untouched multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect I must use another entries like this, right? multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (ACPI Multiprocessor)" /fastdetect /hal=halaacpi.dll /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe
  2. You found one of our user's link! Here is that thread if you want to check it out: I didn't know that the link is of someone at MSFN.
  3. The ex-Metro interface is more difficult to use even for me, which I've used a computer since I was twelve years old. http://xpwasmyidea.blogspot.it/2012/06/essential-features-missing-in-windows-8.html Many features are removed from the good Windows 7 (It was slow on my netbook, but it's stable). And I don't recommend to use a dual boot of XP and 8, unless you use something like EasyBCD, or install the two operating systems separately, because with the dual boot, seems that XP don't boot anymore!

  5. http://depositfiles.com/files/vvcvgigt7 This is the readme of the chipset This is the Windows 2000 section of the readme. Something included in this section is incomprehensible for me. What is the <INF Extract Directory>? ************************************************************ * 8A. 6. I know that Windows XP is getting "old", and it will be unsupported from April 8, 2014. But Windows Server 2003 will be supported until July 14, 2015, and Windows Embedded Standard/POSReady 2009 will be supported until 2019. These systems are still XP-based. Then I ask this question: There will be a way to backport the Windows Server 2003 and Windows Embedded Standard/POS Ready 2009 updates into the Windows XP installation?
  7. Until at least friday, I won't touch my computer. This is the hottest week of this summer (40° C in Sicily) and so I'll wait before doing what I'm thinking to do: I will Integrate chipset drivers (and the others) into the Windows 2000 folder, in order to avoid the 0x0000007b error, I'll EnableBigLba, and then I'll install Windows 2000 in D:, in AHCI mode and probably in normal ACPI, although I have upgraded the "Insyde H2O" bios to the version 1.26 from previous 1.21; Then I'll install Windows Xp into C: in AHCI mode Yes, I'll switch the positions of the systems I won't use the desired system as primary OS until every problem will be solved. When I'll switch the OSes successfully, we'll dedicate the time to resolve the problems. In the meantime, enjoy my video, which includes the eurodance sounds
  8. I don't mind to use the 32-bit colours. The 16-bit colours are ok for everything and are suitable for every Windows
  9. But I said that "I had to do all the procedure again" before, when the system freezed. When was "missing or corrupted" the "system" hive, I have copied the files from C:\Winnt\Repair to C:\Winnt\System32\config. Maybe I must perform a new installation (it's possible from the HDD)
  10. As I said before, when I have changed the ACPI to "ACPI Multiprocessor" the system freezed, so I have installed again the system on the same partition. The "Default User" folder don't exist anymore. There is only the "Default User.WINNT" folder.

  13. That's good news. Kernel hal is not the error so far. Open device manager and change "ACPI Uniprocessor" to "ACPI Multiprocessor" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309283 Probably in this way I'll compromise again the system. The boot.ini is now this [boot Loader] timeout=30 Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect Since the last entry must be untouched, I must use another entries like this, right? multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (ACPI Multiprocessor)" /fastdetect /hal=halaacpi.dll /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe I cannot switch anymore from IDE to AHCI mode. Windows 2000 still says "inaccessible boot device", but I have installed all the updates previously mentioned (except UU Rollup, which have an error that prevents to complete the installation). It was my bad if I used previously the "Intel SATA AHCI drivers". I can't go to the Internet in Windows 2000. Although every driver works correctly (no yellow symbol in the Device Manager), I can go only to 192.168.1.1 This problem occurs from every network card which I have, both internal and external. The external USB Wireless Adapter is "TL-WN321G", which have it's utility. The Internet works fine on the old system. Must I import the settings from the old system?
  14. I have tried to boot with SATA mode enabled, and Windows 2000 worked fine with the Intel Chipset Drivers provided by Acer, which are almost identical to unofficial blackwingcat's drivers. But after loading the system, it asked for the drivers of the controller, and I didn't have the Chipsets drivers handy, so I used the "Intel SATA AHCI Drivers" provided by Acer, which they are for XP. The system failed to boot with the first error mentioned on my first post, so I have loaded it with the Last Known Good Configuration. After another reboot, the system showed the "c:\winnt\system32\config\system is missing or corrupted" message. Fortunately, I have Windows XP on D: so I could repair the system, although I must do again all the procedure. But for now I want only to rest my mind. I spent so many time in this project and I am tired. The last day was very intensive for my mind. Although the network adapters and the webcam aren't a big deal, the lack for the audio drivers and the hyper-threading is. The official Realtek's drivers didn't work. Maybe the problem is inside the chipset's drivers. P.S. The "ACPI Uniprocessor" of the original system works on the system repaired
  15. 1) Not yet. 2) When I used for the first time Windows 2000 on my netbook, I have changed the ACPI to "ACPI Multiprocessor" but the system freezes while booting. I had to do that procedure again. I'm sure that I don't have any other choice. 3) Not yet.
  16. Here I am again. Yesterday I used an HP Compaq nx6310 to install Windows 2000. 1. I have extracted the netbook's HDD and I have putted it to that notebook; 2. I have installed Windows 2000 from there, on disk C:; After installation, every change that I made was followed by a reboot. 3. I have enabled the BigLBA on regedit; 4. I have installed in this order these updates: a. Update Rollup 1 b. UU Rollup 10b c. Update Rollup 2 5. I have changed the ACPI from "ACPI Uniprocessor" to "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" 6. I have changed manually the IDE controller from "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller" to "Intel ICH7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller" using the blackwingcat's drivers; At the last reboot I got the 0x0000007B error, with this code (0xF242384C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) but, as I'll say, this isn't really a problem. After the Blue Screen of the Death I turned off the notebook and I have putted again the netbook's HDD on it's original place. When I turned on the netbook Windows 2000 booted up successfully This is the image of Windows 2000 Pro working on Intel Atom. I can use only one core and IDE mode (unless I use the appropriate SATA Drivers) http://i45.tinypic.com/eiv5vq.jpg The only thing that don't work properly, aside the Atheros drivers and the webcam, is the Realtek High Definition Audio. It says Error 10. In Everest, I have seen this "Realtek ALC272 @ Intel NM10 ICH High Definition Audio Controller". I have installed the driver of the chipset. There is a way to get it working?
  17. 2000 mshdc.inf supports IDE mode too. Which windows 2000 install media did you used? Wich SP was integrated? Did you integrate Update Rollup? Was EnableBigLBA integrated to CD? For the installation on the Acer Extensa I used the Windows 2000 SP4 in Italian, without any update. But on my hard disk, there is a Windows 2000 CD updated with the most recent unofficial Service Pack. EnableBigLBA was integrated there. When I have used it, it was useless since I could not continue. I think that there must be a way to install or use Windows 2000. I don't know where is the solution. Maybe from some trick to begin the installation from XP, maybe from some *.inf updated, maybe from creating a virtual floppy which contain the Sata drivers.
  18. I didn't see if the hard disk was fully available. I have just turned off after the desktop appeared. I have returned to XP after I saw that WIndows 2000 didn't boot. P.S. I know that's unrecommended, but inside the *.inf files of XP there is the support for the controller (in IDE mode), I think.
  19. Of sure I'll do everything to see the old OS working. I wonder if copying the *.inf files which are loaded into the setup of Windows XP Service Pack 3 to the I386 folder of the Windows 2000 CD (copied into the HDD) can avoid the 0x0000007B error. But I don't know which are the *.inf loaded. No, but I have installed Windows 2000 on C: without any problem.
  20. Exactly WHO are you responding to? Me or tomasz86?You're (again) providing insufficient information. Explain EXACTLY (Step-by-Step) how you did this, resulting in the "black screen". I'm responding to everybody's suggestions when I say "your suggestions". English is not my primary language. Anyway, my cousin removed my HDD from inside the netbook, and putted it inside the Acer Extensa. So, I have installed Windows 2000 on that notebook. After installation, I have turned off the notebook, without changing the type of the computer, which is "ACPI Uniprocessor". The HDD was putted again inside the Aspire One netbook. When I booted the netbook, after the progress bar, it appeared the black screen with a blinking cursor.
  21. This afternoon I used an Acer Extensa 5230E which remained for 3 hour at my home because my cousin was repairing it. After backing up my data I made the big step to install Windows 2000 to the first partition of my HDD. When the HDD returned to the original place, in my netbook, I wanted to see if your suggestions was useful. Shortly before the "Windows 2000 Professional" screen, the computer goes into a black screen with a cursor, and simply cannot continue. After the repairing of the Extensa notebook, I viewed the properties. The type of the notebook is "ACPI Uniprocessor", and probably this cause the problem that I described. Can I change the HAL wihout reinstalling Windows 2000 on another notebook?
  22. The "classic" Eurodance songs are, for example, "Dance if you cannot" of Daisy Dee, "What is love" of Haddaway and "Memories" of Netzwerk. The classic style remains about the same from 1992 to 1997 I'm sorry. It was my fault. I hope that your suggestions are useful for me.
  23. I have a USB WiFi adapter. I don't remember the name of it, but as far as I know, the drivers works fine in Windows 98 SE, 2000, Me and XP. When I surfed in IPv6 in Windows 2000, through a tunnel broker, I said "I can't believe"
  24. The USB boot BIOS is importand too. BSOD 0x7b may relate to USB BIOS. Is the hard disk partitioned already? Which partitions exist? Can you zero the MBR? Why do you like to install windows? Does hardware work fine? Boot a PE and try WinNTSetup The BIOS is "Insyde H2O", the version is 1.21 and the revision is 3.5 There are 2 partitions on the HDD C: is 39,9 GB D: is 192 GB I can not zero the MBR before backing up my HDD to an external hard drive which I have. I don't wanna loose many "classic" Eurodance songs. I'd like to downgrade to Windows 2000 because is fast, stable and quite simple. Moreover, the recent unofficial updates reignited the interest for this old OS. I don't know if all the hardware will works fine. The sound card is "Realtek High Definition Audio" The graphics driver is "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150" The network adapter is "Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller" The wireless network card is "Atheros AR5B95 Wireless Network Adapter" P.S. I have forgot one thing: When I used nLite, I removed the "Hyper-Threading" thing because the setup of Windows 2000 hangs after loading the drivers in text mode. When I try to install Win 2K, I select "Standard PC". Do you think that selecting ACPI in nLite (unattended install) and loading it on the setup can resolve the problem? I don't want to give up. P.P.S. Using ACPI (in IDE Mode) I get the same error screen.
