  1. I'll do that. Just a quick note, I have an external USB enclosure but when I hook it up my computer doesn't detect the drive. I checked it with another drive and it worked so it is something with this HD. Also, there are several softwares on the site link you gave me. Which one do I use?
  2. I installed partition magic. This drive has no partitions, but it shows most of the space being used. Partition magic also will not let me assign a drive letter. How can I access this data?
  3. It won't let me assign a drive letter through disk management
  4. I didn't delete anything, just took it out. It did show the whole 40G in the old machine though. Don't know anything about goback. Come to think of it, this was a secondary drive, not the primary. Sorry for the confusion.
  5. It doesn't show any partitions. Just 40GB. It also doesn't show the format type
  6. Says it is online, no drive letter, type is basic. Partition style is: MBR
  7. It does show in disc management, but it didn't ask me to import. What next?
  8. I removed the master hard drive with Windows XPfrom a machine that worked when I stripped it. I didn't realize until later that I had data on the drive (family photos, resume, etc) and the old machine is gone. I want to get the data off of it but am not sure how to do it. I tried setting the jumper to slave but in My Computer on the new computer it didn't show it listed. In the device manager it showed the drive working but I can't access it. Can someone help me out here?
  9. I did that and the other one isn't showing. Any ideas? The are both connected to the same cable. Do I need to do anything in the BIOS?
  10. Ok, if I want to add this drive to an existing machine that already has a hard drive with win XP on its primary hard drive, how would I do it? I tried it some time ago and it screwed up the boot file. My preference is to be able to place is as a slave in an existing machine instead of using it in the external enclosure.
  11. The CPU in the computer that this drive came out of fried. The drive I am trying to read has WIndows XP on it. It is a West. Dig. WD400 40gig. I put it in a USB 2.0 external hard drive enclosure and am trying to access it through USB from an XP machine.
  12. Pardon me if I have posted in the wrong forum. I am new here. I have a computer that's board is fried and I removed the hard drive. The fried computer was running XP. I placed the HD in a USB 2.0 enclosure, but my working computer won't detect it. Is it because the drive is NTFS? How do I get the data off of this drive? Thanks in advance.
