  1. yup did that. says sndvol32 doesn't exist. i know from past experience that if you uncheck accessories under add/remove components on xp sndvol32 dies (your sound). and even if you recheck....still doesn't care.
  2. brandnew gateway 600 xl laptop. if gateway ripped me off with old parts.... LOL (they didn't) setup files are fine, i've used the copy command, xcopy command, installed via vmware so i know the files are fine. mr. gates is taking great joy in ruining my day...probably woke up with nothing better to do then think "hey lets ruin mmatteson's day" LOL....suggestions?
  3. weird thing is, that i have 512mb ram, and himem.sys will let me use 64mb...did i ever tell you i hate microsoft?
  4. how could sndvol32 (your sound) get uninstalled? if its not on your computer, how do you get it back?
  5. i fixed the swap problem with the xp install over a mapped drive. for some reason the existing disk couldn't be NTFS, needed to format to FAT. anyways now i have another problem. i go to setup, hit enter to where the install files are and then it says "setup is out of memory and cannot continue" any ideas? i have devicehigh=himem.sys on my boot disk. weird. can anyone give me a fix?
  6. do you know what would be making this happen? mem? i have enough. hd space? enough there too, i do have an older install of xp on it. but shouldn't matter
