  1. @BWC I see on your blog the last statement (translated) is: It's. No problem if extended kernel bug does that mean that u32 and u33 can be installed on Win2K with the extended kernel? or is there no way to install the last few updates? I am having a little trouble understanding the translation. Thanks
  2. I guess the voting is something internal and not for users...
  3. same issue with Java 6u33. It did not get fixed. @BlackWingCat et al, is there a workaround for installing the Java 6 updates on Windows 2000?
  4. blackwingcat: thanks for getting back to me, I think I understand the process now. If installing your KB2639247 WITHOUT first installing the kernel package then use Package v6 (for Windows 2000) If installing your KB2639247 AFTER ALSO installing your kernel package then use Package v3 (for Windows 2000 Ex Kernel) I realize it was explained on your blog, but it is difficult to understand sometimes with the translation to english. You mention "If you install later v7 kernel". Do you mean if installing kernel version v7 or later? I have been able to find kernel v5b, v10b, v13i, and v15r available in english versions. Is there one that you would recommend installing to correct the firefox v13 issue of this thread? Thanks again for your work and help.
  5. @BlackWingCat: Hello. I see on your site two different files (KB2639247)Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package v6 (for Windows 2000) (KB2639247)Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package v3 (for Windows 2000 Ex Kernel) I am unsure of the difference and what is meant by "Ex Kernel". Is the v6 file to be used WITH your Kernel installed and the v3 to be used WITHOUT your Kernel installed? Or do I have that backwards? Or am I completely off-base and it has nothing to do with having your Kernel updates installed? I am just looking into this because it is getting close to the June 5 release and I am not that familiar with installing any of the major Kernel updates available. My experience to date has only been with using the KDW wrapper to get around the adobe Flash installer issue. Thank you
  6. tomasz.. did try 6.8 as I went the way of using SUPER and it did not need anything else installed. bwc says that 6.8 should install fine on win2k. when i get around to testing that i will post my results. Thanks again guys.
  7. ok.. so I finally decided to use super to try the conversion on a thinkpad with xpsp3. it worked out ok... but watch out for super as it has an opencandy installer that runs when you start the super installer and it installed some adware stuff.. just be mindful if you go with super. I think it will also install on win2k, but I thought that the win2k machine didn't have the resources that the thinkpad t61 had.. and what with doing encoding i went with the laptop. I am still interested in the divx install as dr divx will not work on the win2k machine without an update... so I will d/l 6.8 and try that install as bwc suggested. I'll post back with results, but i figure it will work as bwc stated. only question is if dr. divx will be ok with the 6.8...
  8. oh thanks bwc.. i didn't see this reply before I posted to tomasz86. I will try to find the 6.8 and install it. tomasz86, if you want to hold off until i post back that is ok, unless you are also interested in seeing if the divx 7+ installer can work on 2K
  9. thanks tomasz86: the one i initially tried was at http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_video/codecs/divx_play.cfm i only know that when updating the Dr. Divx it stated that I would have to update my divx codec to 6 or above. I tried running it with the 5.2.1 that i have installed from a while back and it popped up with a "not compatible with the divx version installed" I am not especially tied to the 7.2.2 version, but it is freeware and was one of the first that i found that looked promising. The installer for 7+ gives an error about not compatible with 95/98/ME/NT/2K or something like that. Thanks for the help. I think that blackwingcat has figured out how to get it to install and also corrected some issue with getting the divx player to work as well (i am not so interested in the player) but I just cannot follow along with the translation from his blog. This will be +2 for you, the first being the post on the dropbox forum for getting the context menu to work (for which I can't thank you enough).
  10. thanks for that suggestion, that was going to be the next thing I tried. I just happened to have older versions of Dr DivX and DivX Bundle installed and figured it would just be easier to update the programs I had used before "back in the day". I will start on my Japanese Rosetta Stone DVD asap..
  11. hello blackwingcat or tomasz86 (or anyone else that may know ) I was reading on blog.livedoor.jp about trying to install DivX 7 on Win2k and was having a hard time understanding the procedure. Would it be possible for someone to point me in the right direction for updating my Divx 5 up to 7? I found Dr Divx 2 OSS for attempting to do some mp4 to avi video conversion, but it will not work with my old Divx 5 install. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  12. blackwingcat: Is there some method to reverse the changes made with the EZ KD Registy option checked when doing EZInstall? Are there any other registry changes made with the EZ KD Registry option besides the additions to the ExcludeFromKnownDlls entry? Thanks again for your help.
  13. "FlashUtil11*_plugin.exe" and "FlashUtil11*_activex.exe" also have the SetDllDirectoryW dependency. Thanks for the suggestion, but it will not work without the wrapper. blackwingcat, one last question. If you re-run the EzInstall with all the same options as the first install but check "uninstall mode" will that reverse the registry changes and remove the files from the EZInstall folder? I guess I am asking what is the correct procedure for using the "uninstall mode" option. Thanks again. and thanks for the post about the English v13i update.
  14. I tried that and it was no help. I'm currently trying to get Flash Player to work with KernelEx 13a2 and the Flash Player installer even failed to initialise properly returning the error code 0xc0000005. Did you ever find the proper way to install 11.1.102.62 (now 11.1.102.63 released) with KDW ? EDIT: Ok... I have Flash Player 11.1.102.63 installed on W2KSP4 using BWC KDW .96k EZinstall The method I used is as follows: Create a Temp folder and place the "install_flash_player_32bit.exe" and/or "install_flash_player_ax_32bit.exe" in there (I will probably leave it around as I am thinking when updates come out I can just drop the new install files in there and run the update.) Run kdllinst from the KDW package. Choose your Temp folder as the EZINstall folder, choose kernal32 from the main installer, and check EZ KD registry from the right hand side. REBOOT the machine. Go into the Temp folder and install the update(s). I believe the SetDllDirectoryW call is only an issue for the installer to run. (Someone can correct me if this is not the case). Hope this helps anyone who is having this same problem. EDIT2... And of course if you have something installed that protects registry changes like spybot or webroot then you will have to allow the changes or disable before doing the EZinstall to allow the EZ KD registry patch to complete. @blackwingcat.. what exactly is checking the EZ KD registry option doing? Creating a registry entry that programs run from the installed folder will use the updated dlls from the EZInstall folder? Or creating a registry entry that ANY programs that are run from ANYWHERE will use the updated dlls from the EZInstall folder? Is it safe to leave the files in the temp folder, is it safe to delete the temp folder.. or should kdllinst be used in "Uninstall" mode before deleting the folder. Is there a comprehensive posting somewhere that explains the options in kdllinst and/or a general guide for someone new to using it? And mostly thank you for creating and sharing this.
