Hi I know this have nothing to do with silent install, but I hope some of you can help me. Symantec do not offer any tool to backup the groupsettings in 9.x but you it can be backup if you follow the procedure discripe below (Unsupported !!) (Copy from an email I got from Symantec Support). I want to collect the settings from all my primery parent servers remote on one server. Does any one know how to do that? --- Copy from Email start--- Solution: The following method is not a supported means of product configuration. We strongly recommend backing up the registry on both servers before moving forward with these instructions. Because of the changes being made and the volatile nature of making these types of changes we also strongly recommend doing thorough testing in a test network environment before attempting these changes in the production environment. The following steps will outline the process of retaining client groups between server groups when moving the primary server of one group into another. It is also suggested that you read through the entire document before following the steps provided. 1. If Symantec Antivirus 9 right click the client group and ensure "Inherit settings from Server Group" is Not Checked 2. Go to the registry of the primary server you will be moving 3. Backup the registry entry (Registry (or) File -> Export Registry File) for each client group you want to keep and put them in a shared location Example: If I have three client groups with the names testgroup1, testgroup2, and testgroup3. I would backup the following keys: HKLM\Software\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Groups\ testgroup1 HKLM\Software\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Groups\ testgroup2 HKLM\Software\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Groups\ testgroup3 CRITICAL NOTE: DO NOT BACKUP THE GROUPS KEY 4. Move the Primary server to the new server group 5. CRITICAL: When prompted with "Do you want to apply settings from the New Server Group? This could take several minutes" choose "NO" 6. At the Primary Server of the new server group Import each .reg file you created in step 3 7. Lock the server group 8. Unlock the server group You should now see all the client groups and they should have maintained all of their settings. If you would like your new secondary server to have same Auto-Protect Settings as the new server group please do the following: 1. Right click the new server group 2. Go to All Tasks --> Symantec Antivirus --> Client Auto-Protect Options 3. Click Yes on the message 4. Click Reset All --> Reset All This will propagate the server group settings to the new secondary server. If your client group has "Inherit settings from Server Group" Unchecked they will not be affected by this change. --- Copy from Email end---

Yes this is of cause always a posiblity, but since the mashines have run with nav 8.11 for about 10 month with out any problems except for the last 2 month - my idea was that it could be a microsoft patch Microsoft never make patches with bugs.
-
Hi Lately I have seen on som of our NT4 mashines running SAV 8.11, that they come up with a popup box saying that they can't read the definitions file. If you go to the MMC consol the definitionfile has been updated. Have any one seen this behavior? Does any one know how to fix this isue ? I have to live with NT4 servers for a few month.

Nav and any other antivirusprogram scans all filactivity - thats the main feature of an antivirus program. Maybe you can disable the popup try symantec knowlegdbase. http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nav/nav2004_pro_tasks.html if you don't find what you are looking for you can send an email to symantec support on the web.

Hi Try this Uninstall SAV 9.x Remove the rest of the installation with nonav or remove it manually Go to www.symantec.com/search and enter this number SAV client 2004040815592148 SAV ams server 2004040615394148 Make a slipstream of 9.01 with MP1, liveupdate and symevent and try again. Can my IIS host my own dot.com
pesko replied to shuntang's topic in Server - Side Help (IIS, Apache, etc.)
You need some one to host the dns entry for you or you can find a free one on the net. The you need dyndns and a router (most soho routeres does) price about 100$ that support automatic logon to dyndns. Then setup you hostname to be a cname for you dyndns name eg. www.myhost.com cname myhost.dyndns.org. I have had one on the internet for almost 1 year it works just fin except when my ISP cut my internet connection. hope this helps you futher. -Peter Better safe than sorry. -
Control Bandwidth of every PC in the LAN
pesko replied to tlatoani's topic in Networks and the Internet
Hi You need to find a proxysoftware with this feature. I have seen one in the past but I can't remember what it was called try google or http://www.webattack.com/. -Peter -
Not if you want to be legal.
-
Hi wildkat Sp2 have 2 new features and of cause you can disable them. The first one are the firewall it normally create a lot of problems because you have to know what ports you software are using, especially if you have installed an other firewall like Symantec internet security. Using more than one firewall can create problems. The othere one are the memory execution protection this can be disabled if you add /NoExecute=OptIn to your boot.ini file so it looks like this. [boot loader] timeout=4 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn In you case I would start with the firewall. I hope this help you. Peter

"Dirty" SBS2k3 domain server - how do perform a cl
pesko replied to awarberg1's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Hi Andreas I will purpose that You install a second DC in you domain, after the hole domain has been replicated to the new domain controller. Move all the domain services to the new controller. And reinstall you old domain controller rejoin it to you old domain. Before doing any thing you may want to take a look at this Microsoft KB-articles - yes know they are for w2k but it should work on W2K3 to. KB260371 Troubleshooting Common Active Directory Issues in Windows 2000 KB241505 SRV Records Missing After Implementing Active Directory and Domain Name System KB238369 How to Promote and Demote Domain Controllers in Windows 2000 KB257338 Troubleshooting Missing Sysvol and Netlogon Shares on Windows 2000 Domain Controllers KB237675 Setting Up the Domain Name System for Active Directory KB240362 Directory Services Does Not Start If Ntds.dit File Is Missing Held og lykke (Danish) -Peter -
Hi EclipseGSX Get nonav (Symantec uninstall/cleanup tool) from Symantec golden support, you will need it anyway. Peter

Hi In vertion 9.x you can move client from parent server by drop and drag in older vertions you have to copy a new grc.dat file to the server you want to move. Symantec recomand that you install the client vertion on you servers and client if you dont want them to be parent server. According to Symantec Support you should uninstall when upgrading from 7.x to 8.x or 9.0. I have uninstalled and upgraded over 100 servers and workstations and you will proberly have to run the nav uninstall script on 5-10% of your servers/workstations or uninstall SAV manually. Peter
-
Hi EclipseGSX If you are using 9.x you can just drop and drag between you managementservers. Btw: I got this from our support it should work when you are upgrading from 8.xx to 9.xx (I have not testet it.) This string did not work for me when I tried to upgrad a 9.0 build 338 to 9.01.1.100. I gues that you can put in you parent server in the string. *.msi RUNLIVEUPDATE=0 MIGRATESETTINGS=0 REBOOT=ReallySuppress /qn I hope this helps you futher. Peter
