  1. But, with all due respect to your decision(s), if they are made public, they are subject to being commented, criticized or used as start point for having some fun :thumbup (actually the only important thing).

    Understood.

Anyway, I decided on a course of action(changing jumpers and removing the 2nd card) and implemented it. However, I don't want anyone to think I was being ungrateful because I'm not.

As I've said before all help is greatly appreciated and with that being said I would like to thank everyone for their generosity, patience and indulgence of my naivete`. :)

This is a great forum and I would recommend it to anyone who needs computer help.:thumbup

  2. Was there any point trying to explain your mistake ?

Yes, there was a point, I've gotten the fact that "I made a mistake. However, it seems that you don't understand that I've rectified that mistake to an outcome that is best for me.

Please don't bin that card, give it to a friend with a copy of this thread.

I'm keeping the card who knows what will happen in the future.

I don't know if you meant to be helpful or sarcastic  but thanks for above links...I've found some great quotes.

I understand that there will always be disagreements and differences of opinion as to whose right or wrong but please have the decency to respect the decision that I have made.

    Thank you.

Thanks to all to responded to my thread. :)

  3. I understand the master/slave dynamic just forgot about the jumpers. I'm guessing that Primary/Secondary refer to the same thing just using different terms.

That's where you're wrong guessing when we tell you 10 times, the terms are different because the concepts are. Read this again :angel

You DO realize you can't have more than TWO (AFAIK) ATA devices on ONE Primary ATA Controller (IRQ#14) and TWO ATA devices on ONE Secondary Controller (IRQ#15).

    Ponch:

As you can tell I am not Einstein.

Seriously, if I was a genius at computer stuff do you really think I would waste yours or anybody else's time as well as my own by posting the question I did?

    now you have (or had)

    2 cards

    1 controller on 1st card

    2 controllers on 2nd card

total: 3 controllers, this is more than "one plus one", thus one too much.

On two controllers, you can have potentially four master/slave devices, 2 masters and 2 slaves.

Having just two, the choice is yours to have 2 devices on the 1st card keeping 1 controller or have 2 devices on the 2nd card, keeping 2 controllers and a free IDE connector (that can support a cable for potentially 2 more devices).

Okay....no need to beat me over the head. :(

However, the problem as I stated previously is that the 2nd card isn't/wasn't working although I followed all directions and installed all necessary drivers. It was if the card wasn't connected at all and by extension neither was the HD.

I have disconnected the Controller card #2 and have connected both the DVD-RW and the ATA HD master/slave to Controller #1 and as I mentioned in a previous post everything is working and viewable in "My Computer".

Thanks for all your help. :)

  4. To clarify -

Two cards, one having a single IDE connector (allowing two devices - Master+Slave using IRQ#14-Primary) and a second have two IDE connectors (allowing four devices - Master+Slave using IRQ#14-Primary and Master+Slave using IRQ#15-Secondary).

Chose the one that has the MOST connectors and remove the other OR disable the IDE (via perhaps a Jumper?) on the one with the SINGLE Connector, thus eliminating the IRQ#14-Primary "conflict".

(the thread is now a bit convoluted, but please understand the difference between the CONTROLLER Primary/Secondary and the DEVICE Master/Slave relationship)

    Submix8c:

I understand the master/slave dynamic just forgot about the jumpers. I'm guessing that Primary/Secondary refer to the same thing just using different terms.

As I said in my last post I've already decided to remove controller card#2.

    Thanks for your help. :)

  5. Hi Ponch:

    You quoted submix8c:

You DO realize you can't have more than TWO (AFAIK) ATA devices on ONE Primary ATA Controller (IRQ#14) and TWO ATA devices on ONE Secondary Controller (IRQ#15).

    Yes, I know that.

But still you're trying to have TWO Primary ATA controllers (one on each card) and one secondary on the 2nd card.

Ponch If you talking about the master/slave issue please read my response again. I've said that I forgot about having to change the jumpers as I say in a earlier post(see below).

Yes, I now understand that in order for both the DVD-RW and the ATA HD to be visible(ie work) up I have to change one of them to a master while leaving the other a slave.

No, the Master/Slave thing is for 2 devices hooked on a same cable, doesn't apply in your description of the problem.

Actually, that is precisely the problem I had with Controller Card#1.

Controller card #1 with ONLY one IDE connection is the one that is working. I have the DVD-RW connected to that.

Then, I connected the HD and restarted the computer it would get the screen where it tells what the controller card is connected to and then it would just sit there…never going any further. I THEN had to restart the machine and then when it loaded I ONLY had a connection to the HD as the DVD-RW was M.I.A.

Let me clarify just in case you're still confused as I know that I sometimes have that effect on people.

    1. Controller card#1 has only one(1) IDE connection and was originally ONLY connected to the DVD-RW.

    2. While still connected to the DVD-RW I then connected Controller card#1 to my HD but I had forgotten about having to change the jumpers so of course since both the DVD-RW and the HD were slaves both of them wouldn't show up. It was just as bphlpt mentioned you can't have two master/slaves on the same IDE cable.

    3. I changed the DVD-RW jumper to master while leaving the HD jumper as a slave and both are visible and working fine.

that doesn't explain what the hell is going on with controller card #2 and why it isn't working.

Read Submix8c's post again, it does explain.

I'm not finding the explaination that you say is there.

My issue as I mentioned before is that Controller Card#2 is recognized by the system but when I connected the harddrive to it, it wasn't showing it in "My Computer".

After I corrected the jumper issue on controller card #1 I was able to see both the DVD-RW and the HD.

    Motherboard Differences...

I think I've mentioned that the new motherboard DOESN'T have ATA connections and that's why I was using the controller card to begin with because both my HD and the DVD-RW are both ATA.

I used both cards in the old motherboard because I didn't have enough PCI slots. Two HD's were connected to one controller #1 and the two DVD-RW's were connected to controller card#2 both had the master/slave setup.

Since the controller card #2 isn't showing up I have just decided to remove it. I will just have to try the card at a later date.

    Thanks for all your help.

  6. Hi puntoMX:

Unfortunately, that doesn't explain what the hell is going on with controller card #2 and why it isn't working. :( As I mentioned before I installed all the necessary drivers as directed but the dang thing still won’t “see” the ATA HD!!! :realmad:

Is this a RAID card? What brand and model is it or is it just a simple VIA chipset card? Does it have any jumper or does it show any own BIOS/Firmware when booting up?

Yes, it's raid card. If by brand you mean whether it's Silicon Image or VIA, it's the former(Silicon Image) and the chipset is Silicon Image.

Yes, it has a jumper but I never used that on my old motherboard and I had both controller cards plugged in. One controller card was for 2 HD's and the other controller card was for my two DVD-RWs.

I'm not sure about the manufacturer, I only know what's on the box which is however since I took it out of the box I can give you there's a barcode stick with the serial or maybe it's the model #SD-SIL680-RAID, and underneath that in smaller print is T9(or S) 04080020306 on one chip it say's "Silicon Image" and the following numbers Sil0680ACL1444E00290412. There's another chip but it has a red dot on it so I can't see what's on it. I tried to get the sticker off but it's a no-go.

Question: If I change the ATA HD from slave to master will that interfere with my SATA master drive or will it ONLY effect the DVD-RW and harddrive connected to the controller card???

SATA and PATA (read IDE/ATA) have different channels and also communicate different, so it should not be a problem.

    You're right no problems!

    Thanks. :)

    Motherboard - MSI P67 B43

What is the correct model and what is wrong with the onboard SATA connectors? (I know it has no PATA/IDE/ATA)

Sorry about the mixup, my motherboard is a MSI P67A-C43(B).

There aren't any problems my motherboard's SATA connectors I only mentioned that Controller Card #2 has two SATA connections as well as the two IDE connections.

  7. Thank you all for responding to my post. :)

Just in case I didn't clarify the situation in my original post the 500GB drive that won't show up using the controller card is an ATA drive. My master drive(500GB)and the other storage drive(1TB) are both SATA drives.

gave me the number 3249 (haven't a clue what that number means)

Device ID and Vendor ID are reported by the device's firmware/ROM and can be read in the device properties in Device Manager.

    http://www.pcidatabase.com/search.php?device_search_str=3249&device_search=Search

Have you checked the jumpers on you drives ? Depending on the manufacturer you can have more available settings; master /slave / single/ "cable select". If 80 wire cable used (I suppose you do), always put master device at end of cable ( =2nd connector, usually black) ort set devices to "cable select" and system will see end of cable as master.

Badly jumpered drives will sometime cause boot problem or not appear at all.

    Ponch:

I went into device manager and when the drive isn't showing up at all. I've connected and disconnected the controller card numerous times with no change whatsoever. After reconnecting the controller card the PNP thingy on the computer tells me that I have a new device connected but the as I said earlier the drive isn't there. It seems that while the computer can see the controller card the computer isn't seeing the harddrive once I've connected it which was the whole point in the first place. You asked if I check the jumpers on my harddrive. I've haven't. The reason being, that when I had the 500GB HD(the one that won't show up) connected to my old motherboard it was a slave then too as the now defunct/dead 160GB Seagate was the master. The DVD-RW is showing up as a slave which I don't understand since the the second IDE connector is supposed to be the slave and the connection with the blue connection is supposed to the master or so I thought?

Badly jumpered drives will sometime cause boot problem or not appear at all.

The ATA drive does show up...after I restart the computer (doesn't show up initially when turning on computer) unfortunately, then the DVD-RW disappears.

I understand the Master/Slave dynamic but not the cable select. Does the cable select allow the drive to choose by itself???

    ===============================================================================================

And it usually goes without saying, but since Ponch didn't specifically mention it, don't forget that you can't hook two drives to the same cable if both drives are set as Master. (Or both as Slave). Have you checked whether the drives are showing up correctly in the BIOS? In other words, is this a Windows issue or something more basic? Also, if you have another one laying around, it never hurts to try another cable, they can go bad after multiple connection/disconnect cycles.

    Cheers and Regards

    bphlpt:

You said I can't have two drives hooked to same cable if both drives are set as master/slave. I know that the DVD-RW that I have hooked to the controller now was a slave to my other DVD-RW. So I take it doesn't matter that one is a harddrive and one is a DVD-Rw then? If that's the case that means that I have to change the jumpers on one of them from slave to master. Okay I got it.

Question: If I change the ATA HD from slave to master will that interfere with my SATA master drive or will it ONLY effect the DVD-RW and harddrive connected to the controller card???

    ===============================================================================================

??? I'm not completely following you....

You say "Combo" card and indicate ANOTHER ATA connection - You DO realize you can't have more than TWO (AFAIK) ATA devices on ONE Primary ATA Controller (IRQ#14) and TWO ATA devices on ONE Secondary Controller (IRQ#15). You can't have MORE than two ATA controllers active UNLESS there's a way to reassign the "standard" IRQ's. AFAICT, "Combo" boards are usually to allow ADDING ATA connections to a MoBo that does not have any at all.

If you're talking SATA, then that may be a different story... (dunno for sure)

    edit -

Can you be more specific as to WHAT you have connected to WHICH "connections"?

    Submix8c:

    You said

You DO realize you can't have more than TWO (AFAIK) ATA devices on ONE Primary ATA Controller (IRQ#14) and TWO ATA devices on ONE Secondary Controller (IRQ#15).

    Yes, I know that.

    Controller card clarification…

    1. Controller Card #1 - has ONLY one IDE connection.

    2. Controller Card #2(combo) – Has two IDE connections(blue/master and white/slave) and it also has two SATA connections.

Thanks to bphlpt I remembered that at one time both the ATA HD and the DVD-RW were both slaves to the others HDs and DVD-RWs and I just plain forgot about changing the jumpers once I got the SATA HDs.

Controller Card #2 (2 IDE/2 SATA connections)is the one that keeping telling me when I disconnect and then reconnect it, that's there's a new piece of hardware has been found but when I connect the harddrive to it, it's NOT showing up. WTH?!

    Let me clarify again what the situation is;

Controller card #1(1 IDE connection) is connected to DVD-RW and is visible.

Controller card #2 (2 IDE connections) was ONLY connected to ATA Seagate 500GB harddrive which is NOT showing up at all.

Yes, I now understand that in order for both the DVD-RW and the ATA HD to be visible(ie work) up I have to change one of them to a master while leaving the other a slave. Unfortunately, that doesn't explain what the hell is going on with controller card #2 and why it isn't working. :( As I mentioned before I installed all the necessary drivers as directed but the dang thing still won’t “see” the ATA HD!!! :realmad:

Thanks for all your help I will write back and let you all know how things turn out with jumper solution.

    Laters,

  8. Hi:

    My specs are as follows:

    OS – XP Professional SP3

    Motherboard - MSI P67 B43

Processor - Intel Core Duo i3

    RAM – 4GB

    The Problem:

I have a Seagate 500GB harddrive that's connected to a Syba PCI Ultra ATA/Serial ATA Combo Controller Card. Actually I have two controller cards but the above mentioned isn't working properly.

The second controller card is by a company called For Best Ports Connection and my DVD-RW is connected to that one and it works fine and yes, I followed the prompts and installed the drivers already.

The controller card that the harddrive(that isn't showing up) is recognized by the computer. The computer tells me that there is a new ATA/SATA connection from Silcon Image and even gave me the number 3249 (haven't a clue what that number means unless it's supposed to represent the driver information. Then the computer said the computer has finished installing the necessary software and you must restart the computer before it will work properly. I restarted the computer and still no third harddrive is viewed.

I know you're probably thinking why haven't I disconnected the DVD-RW from the Controller card that I said is working and connected the harddrive that one. Well, the problem with that one is that a piece broke off from the controller card, you know the slot where you slide the old IDE cable thingy. I have tried to disconnect the cable but it doesn't want to come out and I'm afraid that if I pull too hard that the IDE cable will also end up broken beyond repair.

    An Experiment I just tried...

Well, I tried a little something. The IDE cable I have is one that allow you to connect a “Master” and “Slave”. I can see the third hard-drive but now the DVD-RW is missing!!! WTH!? I ended just disconnecting the third hard-drive as the DVD-RW is more important since I can’t make a slipstream disc without much less install the OS or anything else without the use of my DVD-RW drive.

I don’t understand why this is happening before upgrading to the new MSI SATA board that I now have both controller cards worked fine but now only one seems to function correctly. Why is this happening?

  9. 1 - MANUALLY slipstream SP3 "full"

    2 - nLite "add" remainder

Watch out for any "tweaks" during nLite. Some items will directly affect others. Basically, you shouldn't remove components since the AIO probably "assumes" the presence of any/all components PLUS additional items.

What is a "Microsoft Shortcut Bar"?

    Google

    "microsoft shortcut bar" xp -office
still yields little. Please explain your terminology.

    Submix8c:

I did manually slipstream Service Pack 3 as well as all the rest of the add-ins using Nlite.

I don't use tweaks or remove components.

The Microsoft shortcut bar ie toolbar in XP is the bar that can sit at the top of your desktop or on the side that allows you to click on the shortcuts to access the software you use the most (see below)

    http://www.dak.com/reviews/tutorial_shortcut.cfm

    Thanks,

  10. You mean 5.5.1?

I have to assume that you started with XP-SP3 otherwise I doubt it would have worked.

What method was the Add-on applied. RVM or nLite?

You may notice that one response indicated integration using HFSLIP. I personally use nLite and -X- update list, integrated IE8 and WMP11 along with updates. (But to each their own.)

    submix8c:

    Yes, I mean 5.51...

My original disc is Windows XP SP2. I slipstreamed SP3 and went from there.

I haven't a clue what HFSLIP was until I just googled it and no I didn't use that method. I use nlite and as mentioned before I used Onepiece XP Post-SP3 AIO Update Pack v5.5.1-20120221. I mainly use my own CABs. The few exceptions to that rule are the following:

    1. 5er_KB2388997_Addon_v2011-11_1_x86

    2. adobe_flash_activex_11.1.102.55_addon

    3. adobe_flash_plugin_11.1.102.55_addon

This time around the ONLY thing I did different was add updated versions of the above mentioned Adobe ActiveX and Plugin as well as a few others that I didn’t add in previous slipstream disc.

    1. 5er_KB2388997_Addon_v2011-11_1_x86

    2. Flash_AiO_full_AddOn

    3. Addon_Java_Runtime_6_update_31

    4. adobe_flash_activex_11.1.102.62_addon

    5. adobe_flash_plugin_11.1.102.62_addon

I also came across someone saying something how they weren't able to use certain software because of the slipstreamed .NET Framework 4.0 included in the pack. Once they uninstalled the slipstreamed version it and then then added OnePiece_Microsoft.NET_Framework_v4.0.30319.276_True_AddOn_ENU_B201C85546AAA8A735A006A914508930 everything was fine.

I don't know what the heck the problem is. And now not only is "My Videos" folder missing but now my Microsoft shortcut bar won't start automatically anymore. I now have to manually start it each time I turn on the computer which is a freaking pain. I wanted it to start manually I would have set it up that way from the beginning. :realmad:

    Thanks, :)

  11. Hmmmm. mine didn't show up for 7 months after install. Not sure why, BUT... I found a suggestion to open Media Player and that (maybe) it would be created.

Just for record, for my HFSlip XP with WMP11, "My Videos" folder is created only after I launch WMP for the 1st time.

    Geej:

I did open Media player and there still wasn't a "My Videos" folder.

Thanks for trying to help though.

  12. Hmmmm. mine didn't show up for 7 months after install. Not sure why, BUT... I found a suggestion to open Media Player and that (maybe) it would be created.

(did I NOT use Media Player for 7mo??? dunno...)

    addendum - I have Media Player 10.

    Hey submix8c:

I saw that suggestion to use Media Player too...it didn't work for me. Thanks anyway. :)

  13. Hi:

I installed the slipstreamed XP/One Piece Post SP3 v5.51. yesterday.

While I was putting some wallpaper pictures into the "My Pictures" folder I noticed that the "My Video(s)" folder was missing. No, I didn't delete it accidentally or otherwise it's just M.I.A.

I looked the problem up on the internet and found quite a few things that were supposed to help but didn't.

    1. Method 1 - Downloaded Microsoft Fixit thingy and installed it and it didn’t do a dang thing or at least not what I downloaded it for which was to install a new “My Video” folder.

    2. Method 2 – Downloaded Tweak UI and installed it and went to the “Folder” that supposed to allow you to repair/install the missing folder but there was no “My Video” folder listed.

    3. Method 3 - Was a registry fix where you manually fix the missing folders yourself using the following heading HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders. I followed the directions to the letter. I figured out how to add a new registry entry but wasn’t sure where to add it since there were two sections where the entry could have gone. Under the heading \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders there were two folders. One was called “User Shell Folders” and the other was called “Shell Folders”.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

  14. I just repackage it w/o those unwanted toolbar. Using inf method in this case.

If you are interested, can learn more about inf. here.

Maybe read How to make a INF Program addon as your starting point

    Geej:

Thank you for the CABs and thank you for the information on how to make toolbar-less CABS.

When I have more time I will try my hand at making my own and let you know how things turn out...even though by then you will probably have forgotten about it. :thumbup

    Sp0iLedBrAt: :hello:

Thanks for your suggestion. I've tried that toolbar remover and it ONLY works for some toolbars NOT all of them and sometimes stuff in the registry gets left behind as well. :(

  15. Glad you found out the problem cab!

With all due respect to Kali, just tested his uploaded Auslogics Disk Defrag addon on my Virtualbox. Although it installed silently, the crapware also installed silently, something which you do not want. There is no autoitscript to remove those crapware.

Kali might have missed your tread why you prefer to make your addon "non-silent".

I have made this Auslogics Disk Defrag silent addon without Auslogics Toolbar & Auslogics Toolbar Updater using inf script. Includes Start Menu shortcut only.

Also have "Defragment with Disk Defrag" context menu by default.

By default, only English lng file are copied during installation. Rest of lang files are excluded during installation but is available in the cab package for any user who might wish to install other than English langauge.

    Uninstallable from Add/Remove panel.

If you wish to install manually, just uncab, right click on the inf file, choose "install".

Lastly, if you have already have an existing Auslogics Disk Defrag installed, please uninstall it first (and reboot if necessary) before installing this one.

The inf uninstaller work differently for an exe uninstaller.

Just to be sure, please test my addon on VM first.

    Auslogics_Disk_Defrag_3302_inf_addon.cab

    Size: 2.31 Mb (2,420,878 bytes)

    MD5: 4DDCA99AC702B9F633D465AC2E735F94

    (Will host for 7 days)

Forgot: Spywareblaster silent addon can be found here

    :)

    Hi Geej:

No offense to Kali... the files that I made non-silent were originally silent and they installed...and so did their toolbars. That's why when I find a piece of software I test it via the virtual machine or the Sandbox to see whether or not it wants to install a toolbar and then I decide to which version of CAB to make; silent or non-silent.

Thank you for the CABs. I tested them in my virtual machine and both the Auslogics Disk-Defrag and Spyware Blaster installed without a hitch and without toolbars.

How did you remove the toolbars? Is there a piece of software that would allow me to do that so that I could make my own toolbar-less CABS?

    Thanks again! :thumbup

  16. Hi everyone:

I found the problem and it wasn't the Auslogic Disk-Defrag cab!!!

Is it possible that during the making of one of those cabs, you mistakenly inverted something and place a file from (/reference to) diskdefrag ?

It was just as Ponch said that I mistakenly placed a reference to diskdefrag...in another file. :blushing:

I was adding the cabs, four at a time and everything was fine. Then I added the next four and then I got that bloody error. So then I went back and added the last four that I was adding when the error occurred but this time I added them one at a time. The culprit was the Axcrypt Cab.

    ENTRIES_AXCRYPT_V1.7.2867.0_SILENT.ini

    [General]

    builddate=

    description=

    language=Language Neutral

    title=AxCrypt

    [EditFile]

    disk-defrag-setup.exe

    toolbar=no

    [AddProgram]

    AxCrypt_v1.7.2867.0_Silent.exe

Please don't ask me how this happened because for the life of me I don't know. However, I do remember that I at one point I opened up the entries.ini file of Auslogics or what I thought was Auslogics because I was going to attempt to "edit" the ENTRIES_.INI file, but how that editing ended up in the Axcrypt entries_ini file as opposed to the Auslogics entries_ini is a mystery. The only explanation is it was one of those nights when I was trying to multi-task when I was overly tired and should have left well-enough alone.

I remade the Axcrypt file and tested it and it installed without a hitch. I then tested all the CABs on a fresh source and they all installed without any problems.

I want to thank everyone for all their patience, helpful advice and suggestions etc. :D

  17. The reason I make the Non-silent ones is because I DON'T want the toolbars that will install if you do a silent install.

I know exactly how you feel; however, I spent some time and found out that certain applications do NOT install toolbars when installed silently thumbup.gif I'm sorry I can't provide examples, it's been a while since my last nLite experience.

    Cheers

    Sp0ilLedBrAt:

Are you sure about that a silent install won't install???

How about when .ini file? Can I open it open and edit it to say "Hey don't install the dang toolbar" or else. Just kidding about the or else part :)

  18. As bphlpt said, keep removing your cab files until no error occurs in nlite. Then you know which addon is causing this problem.

Nevertheless, just to point you to some links to silent program that you currently have as "non-silent"

I could not find auslogics disk defrag. Maybe I can made one for you...inf type. Gonna take some time to make.

There is defragger as an alternative by the way.

To make K-Lite Pack silent, you need to run it from Command Prompt with a -makeunattended switch. It's all documented.

    Hi Geej & Hi Sp0iledBrat:

Geej thank you for your links to the various software that was nice of you.

I did have a silent version of Auslogics but it installed the Ask toolbar so then I made the non-silent version. I also have Defraggler too but prefer Auslogics as you can defrag more than one drive at a time.

Sp0iledBrat I know how to make silent CABS. The reason I make the Non-silent ones is because I DON'T want the toolbars that will install if you do a silent install. It would be wonderful if ALL apps had different installer versions of their software like CCleaner. They have the CCleaner regular version; toolbar included, CCleaner portable version and my favorite the CCleaner Slim without the toolbar which is the version that I use when making my CAB for that app.

If I could make a silent install that would allow me to install the various software WITHOUT the toolbar then that would be great unfortunately that's not an option or maybe it is and I just don't know how to do it. So I will just have to stick with my Non-silent CABs as I would rather just install it the regular way than have fifty-bizillion unwanted toolbars.

    Thanks again,

  19. Sorry for not getting back to everyone sooner...

I made all the CABs with NLAOM.

Is it possible that during the making of one of those cabs, you mistakenly inverted something and place a file from (/reference to) diskdefrag ?

    Hi Ponch:

I'm a confused about your question??? I know the word invert means to turn things inside... Do you mean did I make another CAB file and mistakenly add disk-defrag to that CAB or did I make a Auslogics-Disk-Defrag CAB and give it the wrong name??? I don't think so but will check... I checked and none of the CAB files I made recently had the auslogics files inserted.

In the meantime, the following are the steps I used when making the Auslogics disk defrag CAB.

    1. I downloaded auslogics from www.majorgeeks.com

    2. I pasted a copy of the file into the new folder(on desktop) that I made specifically for making CAB files.

    3. I opened Nlite Addon Maker and went to where the file was located (new folder) and followed the necessary steps to make a CAB file

    4. Pressed the make CAB button and then retrieved finished CAB file from "Output" folder (also made specifically for finished CABS).

I will say that my file wasn't a silent CAB meaning that I didn't put the /S or /SILENT on the line. I didn't do that because I did NOT want a silent CAB as the silent CAB would install the Ask Toolbar and I don't like toolbars other than the ones that come with the original web browsers. I know some will say that is the issue but as I mentioned before I have made an Auslogics Disk-Defrag CAB successfully in the past and it slipstreamed with no problems but for whatever reason this time around I keep getting that crazy error.

As you haven't ran nLite without any cab file, we are still not 100% sure that it comes from the cabs. Only 99%.

Run nLite with only half of your cab files and if still same problem, run it with only the other half. So we get to 100%, and you can investigate the "bad" half with Geej method above.

    Ponch:

Your suggestion is to use nlite without slipstreaming CABs? I've done that already. I've slipstream SP3 and then One Piece's Post SP3 Pack before slipstreaming the CABs. The error only occurrs when I include the CABs. I've also done tried slipstreaming less CABs or a few CABs at a time and everything seems to be fine until that same error message pops up.

    Hi Geej:

I don't think that I inverted anything but then again...never say never.

Is it possible that during the making of one of those cabs, you mistakenly inverted something and place a file from (/reference to) diskdefrag ?

I think this is the most probable cause of error.

@lapetite66, you can do the following to verify this.

Copy off svcpack.in_ from nlite slipstream process to some other location and expand the file to svcpack.inf

Then text search for 'auslogics disk-defrag' and see if it is in svcpack.inf

If it does, then one of your addon is causing the problem. It add an entry to svcpack.inf hence svcpack.inf is trying to run the program but is is not there.

I don't know how to exapand the svcpack.in_ from the nlite slipstream process.

Wait...I think I figured it out. I used 7z to extract the file or in this case a folder with a SVCPACK.INF file as mentioned by yourself. The following is the result.

As you can see there is no mention of auslogics disk-defrag unless it's invisible to the naked eye.

Just curious, why some addon are label non-slient? You mean you have to click on it to install?

    More about$OEM$ folder info

    regards

Yes, the ones labeled non-silent are the ones I have to click on to install. Yeah, that might defeat the purpose of a silent install but I set them up like that because I absolutely HATE toolbars and unfortunately auslogics and others prepackage their software with those crappy toolbars and sometimes even when you click "no" that you don't want the toolbars they still install, so installing those pieces of software silently wasn't something that I wanted to do. Then there are those apps that don't install silently like Spywareblaster. I tried the silent install and a box popped up and told me that the software doesn't support silent intalls so I went with the non-silent because I like the software.

I think it is Ausologics cab problem. You didn't make it correctly. I also added Ausologics in my XP cd without problem. I use Auto IT script to make it. You can see try it.

    Hi Kali:

I don't know what the problem is but if you saw my swf file that I linked then you know that nlite said that the file was corrupt...even though the file itself wasn't there. I do know that when I got that corrupt file error for the first time I tried using universal extractor to extract the files but the error message I got said that the file was corrupt. I then downloaded a another file and still got the same message from Universal Extractor as well as the same error message from nlite when I attempted to slipstream the file.

I'm NOT an expert at making CABs but the only file that I am having trouble slipstreaming is the auslogics-disk-defrag so I don't think all the fault lies with me.

I don't know how to use Auto-IT. It took me forever to learn how to make CABs with NLAOM and frankly I just want to get this situation resolved and then in the near future maybe I'll learn how to use Auto-IT.

I understand you wanting to keep your AV running, but it is ALWAYS recommended to temporarily disable any AV program while using nLite, RVMi, or any integration/system building program. Besides, it should make the integration go quicker anyway. If you want to feel safer, do a complete scan of your system, disconnect any "extra" drives that are not needed during your build, disconnect from the internet, then disable all your AV programs before beginning your build. Immediately afterwards you can restart your AV, rescan your system just to be sure, then reconnect to the internet and hook back up any drives that you had disconnected. I know you've always kept the AV running before, but at this point in your trials, since you're "at a complete loss", it won't hurt to try it this way at least once. If nothing else you will have eliminated the problem that many of us think you have and you can say "I tried that and it didn't help".

Also, since you say you removed the problem CAB and didn't try to slipstream it, try Geej's suggestion:

Copy off svcpack.in_ from nlite slipstream process to some other location and expand the file to svcpack.inf

Then text search for 'auslogics disk-defrag' and see if it is in svcpack.inf

If it does, then one of your addon is causing the problem. It add an entry to svcpack.inf hence svcpack.inf is trying to run the program but is is not there.

    Cheers and Regards

    Hi bphlpt:

I will follow your suggestion about turning off my AV temporarily although that is something that I don't like doing. Once I have tried that I will let you and everyone else know how things turn out good or bad.

I tried Geej's suggestion you can see the results for yourself above.

  20. I would guess you are running nLite with a AV running...

I have always leave my Anti-Virus running and never had problems. I don't think the Anti-virus is what's causing the problem. I had a virus maybe a week ago and thought that everything was okay since the pieces of software I used (as suggested by the person helping me with the malware issue didn't find anything but I'm thinking that there is something still wrong. I say that because until recently I have NEVER] had a problem with Auslogics-Disk-Defrag and then out of the blue the file is suddenly corrupt and even when I download a new copy from the net and make a totally new CAB I still get the same error message. And worse still even when I DON'T have that CAB file in folder where all the other CABs are and don't slipstream it I still get the error as if the file is there when it isn't.

Just the other day SuperAntispyware found a virus in my System Volume and supposedly the issue was resolved but then it was supposed to have been resolved earlier.

I'm at a complete loss. If I can't get this resolved I'm going to have to reformat the drive.

  21. Hi:

Just tried a slipstream again with a "fresh" source with the same errors yet again.

Geej I tried to do what you suggested with the procexp.exe. I hit the shift and the F10 key and nothing happened at all. There was no console no anything. Since I don't how to access procexp.exe I couldn't add it to the nlite process.

The following is my two latest attempts as you can see Auslogics isn't on the list and hasn't been added and yet I still got that same message. I have attached two swf files that I made with BBFlash to show what I did. The links expire March 1, 2012 as I only have a free account.

  22. I stand corrected, I do have a folder with the ini file that shows that I did NOT have Auslogics to be slipstreamed.

If I didn't mention it before this folder was a fresh copy that I slipstreamed SP3 into and then One Piece's Post SP3 Pack v5.40 and then the CAB files or at least the CAB files that slipstreamed. I know that the finished file size should have been a lot more than 901MB which is the size it was after the error messages meaning that the corrupted Auslogics or whatever the heck is going on prevented the slipstreaming some of the other CAB files. I have a Nero and VMware CABs and both of those are at least 300MB by themselves and that's not including the other 54 CABs. I the past the finished folder was around 1.38GB.

    Here's the .ini file
