  1. What you report is the output of the LBA0 fix. If the drive is not detected, you have a BSY problem (and the "cure" you applied for LBA0 won't work). If the drive is detected BUT with "0 capacity", you have a LBA0 problem (and the "cure" you applied should work) It's just like you had a cold and instead of taking an aspirin and going to bed you bandaged your left little finger: NOT really effective in the case of a cold, but not that bad in case of a cut in left little finger. BSY problem->BSY cure LBA0 problem->LBA0 cure jaclaz .... The SATA cable was trash it worked!
  2. Bleh this just doesn't want to work for me. It it supposed to show something like this Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 14, Max Certify Rewrite Retries = 00C8 User Partition Format 10% complete, Zone 00, Pass 00, LBA 00004339, ErrCode 00000080, Elapsed Time 0 mins 05 secs User Partition Format Successful - Elapsed Time 0 mins 05 secs I get something like this Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 14, Max Certify Rewrite Retries = 00C8 User Partition Format Successful - Elapsed Time 0 mins 05 secs I plugged the drive in and it is still not detected. Did I do something wrong or am I just hooped?
  3. Maybe get another cable. The wires should be easy to separate (and wires should not just fell out ). It should look like this http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807&view=findpost&p=889486 Yeah If anyone has an ebay link for a 3 wired cable that would be great. This one looks good in the display picture http://cgi.ebay.com/CA-42-NOKIA-3120-3200-3220-6020-USB-DATA-CABLE-CD-/160483141831?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item255d8a68c7 but then bellow it shows the nasty sealed in usb one with the panda mini disk like the one I currently have. i bought from this seller - green + white are TX & RX http://cgi.ebay.ie/CA-42-USB-DATA-CABLE-NOKIA-5140i-6021-6101-6070-6100-/280586993353?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccesories_MobilePhoneDataCables_JN&hash=item415449bec9#ht_3115wt_1139 Very cool I'll order that one unless someone can tell me if this one is good. http://cgi.ebay.com/CA-42-NOKIA-3120-3200-3220-6020-USB-DATA-CABLE-CD-/160483141831?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item255d8a68c7 LA is much closer.

  5. Try trial and error. Do Loopback test. Select wire 1&2, If not work, try 2&3, if still not work, then 1&3 is Rx &Tx, with the remaining one GND. I tried that but I get that com error 95% of the time. And then I think it might be because of a certain wire combination but then it fails on one I already tried. I have come to the conclusion that this cable is at fault. Another wire just fell out >;( Does anyone have an ebay link to one with 3 wires that is actually easy to take apart?
  6. Due to different manufacturers, different CA-42 cables using different drivers , that is why we recommend using original drivers for that cable Uninstalled driver. Used one on disk. "Unable to open COM3. Please check your port settings" 0.o edit: I got mad and just tried several times and it worked. Now I have to figure out what the white green and black wires do... As I said before red is connected to nothing just follows a long for no reason. Unless it broke 0.o edit2: and now its not again.... I really need to figure out which wire is which so if I do get it working I can just do it.
  7. Was your cable detected before you installed the drivers? Are you using the original driver from the driver cd or some driver you thought might work that you found in some obscure place on the internet . Using the ones found here I believe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29FztWJVxbM
  8. Did you install the right driver? Can you see it in device manager? Yes the driver installs correctly and the device shows up as "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4)" Under Ports (COM & LPT) Double check you have the speed / error correction etc set properly? 38400 Flow control: none I really need to save this drive it has over 400gb of data. I learned my lesson and bought 2x2tb drives so it wont happen again though.

  10. See FGA . Pay special attention to the link given in Point 6. Yeah the end piece is gone... The main problem is the COM port error at this point.
  11. I used Windows 7's 32bit XP mode VM for fixing three 7200.11's, but you've got to specifically enable USB within the VM first. Ok so I loaded windows xp 32bit into a vmware virtual machine. paper card in place, hear the motor spin down. I plug in the USB and the VM detects it as its own. Open HyperTerminal and slect COM3 (the port its using) and it says "unable to open COM3. Please check your port settings" now my cable has black, red, white, and green wires. The red seems to do absolutely nothing and is not attached to anything. I don't know which cable is TX, RX, or GND and I planed on guessing until I got it right as my usb piece is sealed in and even when i got it off it has no indication as to which is which. edit: I should also mention I am using these to make the connection between wire and HDD http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8430# these should work right? Any tips?
  12. Just a few simple questions here! Can I not use virtual machine with xp 32 bit for this? It gets the drivers correctly but says that it is "unable to open COM3. On a Side not anyone else have a ca-42 cable with red, white, green, and black wires? The red seems to not be attached to anything maybe I have a bad cable.
