  1. If you read the Guide carefully you'll see it did not neglect to tell you exactly where here: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/17/
  2. I doubt it'll work because of CLSIDs for the hardware. I don't think they're identical on different computers but you can check it out and try modifying the CLSIDs.
  3. Don't put the Beethoven9 inside i386. It is causing some problems. Put it elsewhere and move it to the desired dir during install. Start again with a clean source, do another run, using OemPreinstall = Yes If you don't want to install OEM drivers, remove: OemPnPDriversPath Use iso, not CD to save you burning CDs. For the error log, it'd be better to upload the txt file directly rather than a jpg of it.
  4. From the Explain tab of Add-on List Properties: So to deny WGA Val Tool, use 0. Once you set all the options in gpedit, it shouldn't be necessary to change anything else in regedit. Only the first half is relevant here. The rest is there to start with. but you still need this with the above: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ext\RestrictToList It is a bit complicated, that's why I urged you to do it yourself so that you understand a bit more about it. Test it out and see if this works. A tout à l'heure
  5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles
  6. Thanks for your help. I found other threads on making SFX in WinRAR so I'll read them. I'll post back if there're further questions.
  7. The first two errors listed said The Operation was cancelled by the user. Did you use the same (multiboot) CD or two CDs for attended and UA install?
  8. Critical updates WILL install in illegal versions (versions with blacklisted keys) but SP2 will NOT.
  9. We have a separate MCE forum here. If it's new PC, it should have support and warranty from the manufacturer.
  10. Try the updated version: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Include the domain or local computer name: subinacl /subkeyreg \\<domain_name>\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISDelta /grant=Users=F
  11. scandisk? not chkdsk? If chkdsk doesn't fix it, delete it offline (WinPE).
  12. I did not complain openly or via PM that your post is in the wrong forum. I believe that a forum like this is for open posting for the benefit of everybody and in general I don't answer queries via PM. If a mod feels it's in the wrong section he will move the post. You'll have to use your artistic skills to create some nice icons, or grab them somewhere else.
  13. Look carefully what reg tweaks you applied, esp. w.r.t. system services.
  14. Although it returns an R when you type attrib in cmd, it in fact has FULL CONTROL for SYSTEM and Administrators. Have a look in the permissions list in the Security tab.
  15. I've corrected the reg key error above and added DWORD. (The error comes from the MS xls document on XP SP2 Group Policy. I just copied it yesterday.) If you have XP Pro, run gpedit.msc, go to that setting and set it to enabled. Then open regedit and you'll see what key is set. That's when I find out the error today. After you set the above, you'd also need to add the permitted CLSID in the next setting, Add-on List. Click inside and it explains how you do it. Then look inside regedit. If you don't have XP Pro, I can do a dummy run and paste more info for you. But it'd be better if you do it yourself, then you understand what it's all about. Once you've done all that, export the relevant keys for UACD. I don't have the CLSID you mentioned, you have to go to HKCR\CLSID to find out what it is.
  16. If you get to the logon screen, you've passed the boot.ini stage. If there isn't a boot.ini or if it's incorrect, you get the NTLDR is missing error. So your problem now is not booting, but logon. One possible cause of hanging at the logon screen is the page file location, which was probably not corrected when you changed drive letters. The other thing is, when you changed D to C, you must also change what was C back to D or whatever.
  17. X-Setup used to be free and is probably the most comprehensive tweaking tool. The last time I opened it (ver. 6) I didn't make any changes. Tweaking for tweaking's sake is pointless and could well be destructive. Most tweaks can be done via regedit yourself anyway. B) There're other free ones, but I wouldn't recommend any. One that I tried (came with mag CD) was a bit like TweakUI and registering it brought me loads of spam for months.
  18. Thanks a lot! Q1. Understood. I missed the environment variable when I read the cmd. In fact I've been using reg for testing the RunOnceEx execution (in the other thread). Q3. How would you know if you need to register a DLL in the first place? Q4. I'll try it out in due course. But I don't see in the arguments how or where you specify where to install the prog to.
  19. You miss the point I was making. With MS WinPE, I don't need any 3rd party tool to edit the SAM. And the fact that you have a multi-boot CD which loads quicker is hardly relevant to the main point of discussion really. If you use Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, it's not the quickest nor the easiest tool to blank the pw. EDIT: I wonder why the poster didn't just ask his brother. Surely that would be the quickest and most direct way to get an answer. If there's indeed a method which works in Safe Mode and which is not what I said above, do pls let me know.
  20. The problem is the Nero icon itself. The other icons are OK. So the logical (and the easy) way is to deal with this Nero icon, not the whole icon display. Look for the Nero entry here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers Change the defaultIcon path, make your own (higher quality).
  21. I already said you don't need to change any attribute to copy and move things there. You can do that in Windows, can't you? In UA install, when you do it in cmdlines.txt, it runs as a service anyway.
  22. For IE6 in XP SP2 or later only: gpedit.msc: Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Security Features\Add-on Management Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in the Add-on List regedit (this subkey is absent by default unless you set a policy): HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ext\RestrictToList REG_DWORD = 1 EDIT: corrected for reg key error; added more info
  23. If you're using non-En version, then it's probably not "Administrators". The user names must match.
  24. All he did was logon to the built-in Administrator account in Safe Mode in XP HE and forcefully reset the pw on another user account. It is not possible in XP to delete the SAM (in HKLM) unless offline. EDIT: It is still the SAM that stores the pw. That tool loads it for blanking offline. I can do that using WinPE.
  25. Explorer.exe errors are very common in PCs with system damage, malware etc. Pls use jpg/gif/png for image uploads, not bmp as it's a waste of bandwidth and it makes us download it to HD.
