Manually Adding Startup File to System Configuartion Utility
Takeshi replied to hbman's topic in Windows XP
There're several ways to do it. 1. Manually add the shortcut to your Startup folder. 2. Manually add the shortcut to the All Users Startup folder. 3. Manually add the path to this reg key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run 4. Manually add the path to this reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run -
About Importing HKLM entries using cmdlines.txt
Takeshi replied to gugutz's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
If a reg tweak doesn't stick (for whatever reason), it means no change has been made to that particular key. No big deal. When you apply some reg tweak you don't understand, or apply the wrong tweak, that could be more harmful. -

About Importing HKLM entries using cmdlines.txt
Takeshi replied to gugutz's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
In my own tests, the HKLM tweaks applied at T-12 seem OK but some HKCU tweaks don't stick. I think it depends on what happens after T-12, what other programs are installed etc. Anything that doesn't stick can always be re-applied on first logon. -
You obviously did something wrong when building the UACD and/or the source is corrupt. So try again. Any further problems would be better posted in the UA Windows or nLite forum. We don't know what went wrong because we didn't watch you do it and you didn't say how you did it. Even though this attempt fails it's not really a waste because there should be something to learn from this mishap. May I also suggest that you use screenshots sparingly. Most commonly encountered errors can be understood when carefully and accurately described in words.

Direct link for download KB905474 SVE ?

Hasn't WGA Notification been discontinued (or at least discontinued temporarily) recently so why bother with it still? -
Point taken. TBH you have to see what happens but I can tell you that when I changed the ProgramFilesDir to D manually, IE Cum updates refused to install. I don't know if other changes in the variable is needed. But I'm just a bit wary of replacing it globally in the registry. The other thing is, that post was in 2004. Things might have changed since XP SP2. Perhaps you could give us your feedback later.

I think you're making this more complicated than it really is. These two reg entries are all that matter. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion] "ProgramFilesDir"="d:\\Program Files" "CommonFilesDir"="d:\\Program Files\\Common" So it shouldn't be necessary to use another tool to search and replace the whole registry. Something like this in a cmd should do what you want: reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion /v ProgramFilesDir /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %systemdrive%\Applications /f

They have connections for audio and video input (VHS/DVD/TV box etc., and usually has TV tuner) and output (VHS/TV etc.).

I thought PSP is more in the class of PSE than full fledged PS CS. So it's only meaningful to compare PSP with PSE. PSP Photo XI on the official website is US$99.99, not much cheaper than PS?

A challenging resurrection of a non-starting XP Pro SP2
Takeshi replied to LucLinh's topic in Windows XP
When one system file after another goes corrupt I have a bad feeling about this - could be hardware problem, meaning the HD is failing. -
Sorry! But I don't really the OP's reason for doing so. He browses a website using a lang he doesn't understand but doesn't want IE to install and display the lang. ???
-
It's not strictly necessary to set it active but it won't matter either way, just makes it easier for the future if the user wants to install an OS. If the BIOS always looks for the first HD to boot, then it won't matter either if the 2nd HD has an active partition. No big deal.

You would have found out what it is and where to d/l if you use Google. When I tried, the first two are d/l links, the third tells you what it is.

That winnt.sif is not a sample file.

Disable Automatic Install of IE Components in GP? Don't know if that applies to webpage languages.

Look hard at the description underneath the item. Don't be fooled. For OE, WMP, Windows Messenger, it only adds or removes access from the Start menu. Steps to remove Messenger for real can be found all over the internet.

BV's list is in my opionion overrated and has been blindly worshipped and adopted by too many users. It's mostly common sense really. I agree with the comment about security. And there're some there's no harm disabling them. Afterall, Windows lets you configure them.

The 1st partition should be primary and active.

That's a bit vague as you haven't said what format you're after. If it's lossy format then forget about high-end stuff. It's fine if you really want to do the analogue to digital transfer as a hobby but it'll be very time consuming. TBH, unless the songs are not re-issued on CD, for quality I'll just buy the CDs (or SACDs/DVD-A if available). Getting rid of the pops and cracks in a home studio is not all that satisfactory.

Help Wanted: Install from a partition instead of a DVD
Takeshi replied to Haynes's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It's winnt32.exe with /tempdrive:drive_letter and /syspart:drive_letter switches. -
That's outdated info. This won't happen if you use an SP2 slipstreamed XP CD. It's extremely unwise to use any registry cleaner without first having a backup. It's not high tech knowledge, but common sense. Without a backup or system restore point it's too late. Any good reg cleaner should include a backup function by default, in case the user doesn't even think of doing it. And it'd be a good idea to test the restore function first. More seriously, any company who freely allows employees to do this kind of thing should have a most urgent immediate audit on its security and backup practice. It's just amazing this still happens. Who knows the next time someone would install stuff or modify the workstations and introduce some vulnerabilities and data loss to the whole system.

I'd try this first (assuming it's not a modified source): Text Services and Input Lang > Settings > Preferences > [Language Bar] [√] Show additional Language bar icons in the taskbar If that fails, I'd completely uninstall and reinstall the lang IMEs and do a repair/fix of the taskbar. Or try another account.

Problems with XP Pro SP1 Updates and Theme...
Takeshi replied to syster's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It's Themes, not Theme. Everything about Royal must match the original. Themes service must be automatically started.
