  1. Local intranet site meaning a webpage on a server? It needs scripting to open something on the local machine.
  2. Access denied usually is due to firewall blocking or sharing permissions incorrectly set.
  3. MHz is right about the default blank values in these subkeys. But see this. So having values of 0 doesn't mean anything in particular in the first place.
  4. The error message actually tells you to read the KB for more info. Surely the first and logical step is to consult it. It actually tells you what to do.

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=At...st&id=14701 Try again: Manual: On the top toolbar, click on Help. VMWare Tools: Once you have installed the guest OS, start it up. When it's running, release the mouse (Ctrl+Alt). Then go to VM > Install VMWare Tools. Then go back to the guest OS, go to My Computer > CD Rom Double click on the msi inside.
  6. You're welcome. The last screenshots indicates you have the wrong version(s) so check carefully which hotfixes are the problem. Actually the switches listed in the sticky and the guide have long been superseded by new ones although the old ones still work. Note the dates of the following KBs. Command-line switches for Windows software update packages Command-line switches for Microsoft software update packages
  7. There's no need to take extreme views on the subject. The logic behind the following two statements taken together is false. • Disabling system services does not increase system performance. • Therefore it's wrong to disable system services. The opposite is not necessarily true either. • Disabling system services increases system performance. • Therefore it's right to disable system services. The above makes the assumption that system performance is the only factor in consideration. Afterall, this isn't the likely reason why MS changed the Alerter, Messenger and Telnet services to disabled by default in XP SP2.
  8. This sticky tells you the switches of the first two. Manually add them to svcpack.inf. Not every KB uses the /integrate switch. The non-hotfix updates don't. The 3rd - don't know...
  9. Try adding: InputLocale = 0402:0402, 0409:0409 to [RegionalSettings].

Please read Post#2 again more carefully. I don't want to keep repeating myself. Indeed!
  11. If you can remove the HD and put in your own PC then regedit > load hive should suffice. MS WinPE or BartPE can also load hive. But it looks a clean reinstall is probably the best option. Machines that can't open exes are usually the result of virus infections.
  12. Isn't it possible to extract the files, mount the image, replace the files and regedit the relevant key?
  13. I haven't noticed any shutdown message - what does it say? I suppose you could try asking LUK (the author) in ImgBurn forum.
  14. You're welcome but all credits belong to the original authors. Back to the topic: Nero 7 120MB is it really? I've stopped upgrading Nero after ver 6.x. Heard some bad things about ver.7. Now I'm a new ImgBurn convert.

  16. Yes, but so many users disable SR. Windows' own ntbackup can also backup the whole registry (as part of System State). Back to the OP's topic, there's no need to get registryphobia. Most changes won't . Editing the registry is a good way to learn about Windows. Just use common sense.
  17. Thanks for your feedback. I forgot to say not doing the search and replace did not mess up the ordinary working of OE and IE. Did it in your case? As for some empty folders created after changing the default prog dir, it did in my case too.
  18. If you don't think it's HW problem, it's conceivable that it's source problem. Why not try it in virtual PC/VMWare (different HW emulation)?
  19. I'd first check the ROE command is correct before assuming the tweak doesn't apply. Actually all the startup reg keys execute AFTER user logon. Previously I incorrectly assumed that some were before. In my recent tests not using autologon, the logs definitely confirmed otherwise. But user RunOnce, as we now know, executes last so conceivably it might be better.
  20. Yeah I have ATI AIW. I have cable TV so I don't use the analogue TV tuner (can't receive digital channels). So I connect the cable box to the ATI dongle using S-video (and audio using RCA).
  21. If you burn DL DVD video, Imgburn is the best tool. It burns the DVD files in the right order (according to the spec) and lets you choose where the layer break is. (See my post on Media forum.) The exe is under 1MB.

Why do you keep saying MVWare when it's VMWare? In the main prog toolbar, go to: VM > Install VMWare Tools (it doesn't say download in mine) then inside the vm guest, look inside the CDROM. Double click on the msi to install. NOTE: VMWare disables CDROM autorun, so that's why nothing happens when you choose Install VMWare Tools. You also find the iso inside the VMWare prog folder if you want it for some reason.
  23. I suspect it uses CLSIDs. But for a start, look under: HKCU\Software and HKLM\SOFTWARE and see what the relevant keys show.
  24. As I said here sometimes HKCU tweaks don't stick when applied at T-12, presumably what happens afterwards (other components, progs) overrides your settings. I find some Explorer tweaks in particular don't stick. As a workaround, you could re-apply them at first logon using for example user RunOnce.
