Hi guys and gals, Tell me, how do you do a scandisk in windows XP, as I cannot find any command for that in any menu. What am I overlooking and what should I know that I do not know presently? I am brilliant, but I do have failings... Dakota SunRunner

does sp2 have journal viewer?
DakotaSunRunner replied to j4ever's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Hi, Yes I found that out the hard way, when installing adobe acrobat reader. You can download it at microsoft free of charge. Get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...d4-d1eb70eacb44 Dakota SunRunner -
HI, I would be glad to help you if I knew the answer, unforturnatly I don't. Seeems illogical you can make a drive faster, however, being no expert in this particular area, I suppose anything is possible. Dakota SunRunner

Hi guys, Very well said prathapml and I agree with you totally. In my estimation, this is the best thing Microsoft has done in many years. No one can complain, at least not the software makers, for they were warned over a year ago of coming changes. I think this service pack is the best thing that could have happened. Dakota SunRunner

HTML Error Messages
DakotaSunRunner replied to Minus Human's topic in Web Development (HTML, Java, PHP, ASP, XML, etc.)
Hi, I am not exactly sure what your saying here. But if I understand you correctly, your saying, when he uses his browser (IE) it displays messages in the browser about error's on web pages? If this is the case, just turn on error reporting on his browser in his machine. It could be displaying java error or he might have a special program to display these error messages. There are many programs that help correct error's on web pages and give a display message when error's are found, he may have a program like that, or it might just be his browser reporting it to him. Error message reporting can be turned on and off in a browser. depending on what browser you use. I am not sure, either way there is a reason, he will have to sort it out. If he is computer savvy, he will understand what to do. Dakota SunRunner -
Hi all, I installed firebox 1.0 beta, but not before uninstalling V0.93. It seems to install correctly, but I now get this error, XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: Chrome://browser/content/browser.xul Line number 609, column 17: I have no idea what the above error is but the browser will not start. Sooooooooooooo I did this, I uninstalled it, and removed all registry entries, installed it again, same error comes up. Soooooooooo I uninstalled it again, removed all registry entries and reinstalled V0.93 only to get this same error again and V0.93 worked properly before but now will not work at all, so I uninstalled firefox entirely. I was working on a 2.1 ghz computer with 512 megs of ram with windows XP sp2 update. It is funny about this as version 0.93 worked alright before I installed the beta version of 1.0 now neither will work. Well one good thing, it was not on my computer but a customers. I now hessitate to install this beta version on my personal computer as it may screw up everything and not allow any firefox to run. Any Ideas? Dakota SunRunner Good thing I am not a software maker as this is really all greek to me and it surely would drive me nuts, well worse than I am now...

Hi, I had the same problem with a downloaded file, it would not install, but I went at it a different way, rather than saving the download file, I clicked on open and it downloaded and installed without a problem. Why the difference, who knows, after all, this is microsoft *smile*. Dakota SunRunner

Hi, Has anyone downloaded the newest nightly build V1.0 of Firefox browser yet? If you have, how does it work and is it fairly stable? I am curious what the differences are between the nightly build V1.0 and the V0.9.3 build. I wish we did not have to reinstall everything just to upgrade, I assume that perhaps they will fix that in time. But I guess it could be worse, getting the extensions is no big deal, and another question, do the most recent extensions work with the most recent nightly build??? Thanks Dakota SunRunner

Hi, Ok, I found out what I wanted to know. It was or is a vulnerablitity in MSIE which has been fixed if you upgraded your computer. However, in spybot it continues to report it and should not. I see that in spybots next issues that will not appear any longer. It is nothing to worry about if your computer it updated as spybot is updating thier software also. Thanks Dakota SunRunner

HI all, I am wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of DSO Exploits or if it is logically possible to do so. Can anyone tell me what they are or it is and why it comes back after numerous removals with sypbot and ad-aware? I am curious about it, seems not to slow the computer down or do any harm, but I still do not like it in my computer without my permission. Now if this question has been asked before and I missed it on another thread, I do apologise for that. Thanks for your help and info in advance Dakota SunRunner

Hi again, Yes, I forgot that, it you run Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, dump it, too many security risks. Get firefox browser, much much better and safer. Get it here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ You cannot go wrong with firefox as it does all that MSIE does and more with all the great extensions it has. Give yourself time to get use to it... For Spybot, go here: http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Dest...tml?tag=lst-0-2 and for ad-aware go here: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Person...tml?tag=lst-0-2 Good luck now, Dakota SunRunner http://abe.midco.net/dakota-sunrunner/

Hithere, Well it seems you have a dilema to say the least. You should go here and read this. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;312456 It sounds also like spyware or a virus of some kind. but read the above url first, but if you do not have a spyware remover in your computer, now is the righ time to think of that. I have sybot (which I think is the best) and ad-aware and they work well. I wish you luck, Dakota SunRunner Also, if you do not have anti virus software in your compt, again, now is a good time to get it..

I use firefox and am completely satisfied with it, when I cannot use it, then I use IE such as for updates and all. I have not found any problems with firefox at all, but I am sure I will as I did opera, netscape and many others. Everyone has a opinion and everyone thinks he or she is correct..such as it is, the world goes on. Dakota SunRunner

HI all, I use easy antivirus (Innoculan) and it has worked excellently for me. It scans incoming and outgoing mail etc... I have never had a virus with it, seems to catch everything. It also can come with a firewall, which is made by zone alarm for them. However I use Kerio fire wall, did not install the EZ firewall. For those who cannot afford a antivirus or firewall here is a address where you can get this for free and it is full retail version also. It is free for one year to microsoft users. http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/ Thanks all, Dakota SunRunner

Hi there, "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. " It does not seem to me that it is a memory problems, seems you have enough for that. My first guess is that windows is not finding the network card or modem or something else durring boot up is using up resouces that are needed for your intended work. It could be that the computer is not finding the tcp/ip connection which would be modem or network card related. This is very strange to me, have you checked all system settings for the modem or network card? If your on a local area network (such as cable or dsl) and it looses the dhcp server, it might not find it again till reboot. That could well be the resource it is looking for and cannot find. You might try fixing the tcp/ip connextion next time that happens and see if that works, which you can do by right clicking your mouse on the little icon below, kind of like two little tv's side by side and choose the option, repair and see if that helps. If you loose the network connection, that might be the error you get, but am not totally positive on that. Good luck now, I know this can be frustrating but keep with it. Dakota SunRunner

Man, this is really odd, I have divx V5.2 in my computer and have had no trouble with any of this at all. I feel neglected, my computer has been running sp2 for nearly two weeks now and I have not had any of the problems that others have had. However, I am greatful for that also. As I said in another thread, I have upgraded quite a few computers already and have not had a problem with any one of them. what bothers me is, I know eventually I will have problems somewhere down the line with some customers computers, it is bound to show up sooner or later, but what I do not understand is why some have alot of trouble and others like myself have little or none. Must be Microsoft slipped in a secret code to hate some computers and love others, does make one wonder... Dakota SunRunner

HI all, I use the kerio firewall and find it more than adaquate. I use to use zone alarm pro and after thier last update I gave up on them. Kerio seems to be working fine and I am very pleased with it. I guess everyone has thier idea of what is best and that is alright, whatever works and does a good job for you that is the one you should use. But for me, it is Kerio all the way.... Hi There, Where did your SP2 upgrade come from? Did you get it from microsoft? If all else fails, try and order the cd from microsoft. You say you reformated and still has the same problem with booting? It freezes? It stops responding entirely? How old is the machine and how much memory do you have in this machine? Some mother boards are having problems with sp2 and I have not read anywhere here where there is a bug in sp2 if I am understanding you correctly, as your speaking of it as if it were a virus or intrussion. More information is needed to determine (if that is possible at least) what is going on, could also be a bad boot sector or hardrive failure or any number of things happening. I wish you luck, Dakota SunRunner

I ordered my sp2 CD last week thursday and got it yesterday and I think that is the fastest delivery time I have ever seen from microsoft. Yours should be coming along soon. Dakota SunRunner

USB port, hmmmmm, I had that problem long before sp2 also and experienced the same problem I beleive your having now. It seems, that some motherboards do not like USB ports and some programs and parts do not conform to usb properly and windows ignore their existance. I remember this problem well and it was with soyo mother boards and a few others. Miy problem was with a philips camera and my scanner which is a cannon. Windows simply refused to see them and I simply could not get them to work. I put in a sis motherboad and whalllaaa it works fine now. Now I have no idea at all what the problem was but it seems to be cured now. It is frightening sometimes how things work and do not work and simply put often times we cannot do a thing about it. There has to be a reason for this and perhaps sp2 simply will not conform with mother board specs or vice versa, it is simply too difficult to tell. I wish you luck, Dakota SunRunner

So far I have installed sp2 on 6 different computers from 6 different manufacturers and have had no installation or booting problems\ along with no broken programs. I guess I must be lucky. I read these horror stories in here and it baffles me as to why others are having so much trouble. One thing I think everyone should remember before even attempting to install sp2. Be very sure that there is no adware or spyware in your computer. It does and will hinder the installation process and cause all manner of havoc with you. I am sorry you have not been having a good experience with sp2. Sounds to me like you have to reformat and start over, and with what is going on with your installation, that might not be a bad idea anyway. I have been a computer technician for 12 years now and I have never read so many horror stories as I have with sp2 but yet, for me, it has not been a problem. Good luck Dakota SunRunner

Hi peeps, For a long long time I used Zone Alarm and was more than satisfied with it, unltil their last upgrade which screwed everything up, made the computer slower, was a memory hog and did all manner of nasty things to my customers computers as well. So needless to say, I no longer use it and neither do my customers. I now use Kerio firewall for it is simple and does a remarkably good job with no problems at all. It has a very simple user interface and it is very intuitive. I think we all have our preferences, and I say, whatever works for you, that is what you should use. NO matter the name, if the product does the job and does it well, then it is a good product. I however, would never recommend Norton firewall to anyone. Reason, nortons slow your computer down terribly, does not catch everything (same with thier virus software) and does nasty things also. Just remember, because a product name is familiar and it is a big company, does not make it a good or reliable product. Just my opinions of course, Dakota SunRunner

Hi guys I got the same message, I clicked continue and it installed and I have no problem with it at all. I use windows XP sp2 and have had no problems, however, that does not mean others might not. Why this message comes up is anyones guess. but I am sure someone here will have a answer to that, I am just a lowly computer tech that does not get into the nitty gritty of software specs. Take care, Dakota SunRunner http://abe.midco.net/dakota-sunrunner/
