  1. The part that is confusing me is the importing the palette. And yes it is a pain but in the end it is worth it cause i will be able to make my own custom bootscreens(won't do many)
  2. would it work if i just replaced the appropriate progress bar image with the one from the custom theme that i downloaded and am now editing? or do i still need to do something with the palette, or is it just a matter of either eidting the progress bar image with the palette colours, or using a custom image that is already designed for the palette.
  3. How do I edit the progress bar then???
  4. I don't need to edit the progress bar, it is a precustom image i just edited part of it, but left the progress bar part alone, so theoretically it work
  5. ok thank you for all your help
  6. that worked, but now how do i determin what the numbers are in hex, this is my pallette : JASC-PAL 0100 16 251 254 252 217 167 58 47 176 247 3 69 176 0 0 2 159 107 35 4 29 90 88 33 9 150 234 254 254 220 151 42 9 0 93 105 122 3 6 49 118 65 21 29 68 112 141 154 173

  8. Ok one last thing, how do i find out the palette for my custom image, i tried saving the palette with paint shop pro 8 but when i open it in notepad it is just jibberish, not the numbers i was expecting.
  9. Once again alanoll you have come to my rescue, you rock thank you.
  10. I took a look at that, and i don't understand exactly what I'm supposed to do. I tried using ultra edit to find the default palette, but it said that it couldn't find the string this is what i searched for: 00 00 00 00 15 1A 20 00 46 46 46 00 D2 3E 2D 00 01 65 53 00 05 35 B2 00 7E 7E 7E 00 00 92 89 00 FC 7F 5E 00 20 6B F7 00 FF A6 8D 00 04 DC 8E 00 1B BC F3 00 BC BC BC 00 FC FC FC FF FF FF is this what i should be looking for in the sp2 kernel, cause i can't find it. if not what is the string for the hardcoded palette in the sp2 kernel. thanks
  11. Ok, I would like to know, if I just replace the bmps for all the necessary files in ntoskrnl.exe SP2 version, should the kernel work when i use it.
  12. alanoll you are a life saver, thank you so much for your reply it worked like a charm
  13. Thanks for the reply alanoll, i appreciate your input, i will do a search.
  14. I tried that, but I'm using paint shop pro 8 and i couldn't get the palette file to work.
  15. Hi there, I realize there is another post with basically the same thing, I am gonna edit it soon. I just recently downloaded a custom ntoskrnl.exe file for windows xp. Now I want to use it with SP2 but the kernel I downloaded is SP1. Now I know this one won't work, but I would like to take the necessary bmps, and edit my SP2 kernel with these new ones. Now the problem is when I open ntoskrnl.exesp1(that is the custom)certain bmps are black. Now i saved the bmp to the hard drive, but when i open them they are still black, I want to edit them slightly before i put them into the sp2 kernel. Can someone please tell me how I can get it so they will display what they are supposed to display.
  16. EDIT: I made a different post on the same subject, but with a different topic. Go to the post with the topic Custom ntoskrnl has Black BMP
  17. Hi there, I would like to use the method i saw in this thread for changing the boot screen, the only problem is i do not have xp pro, so therefore I do not have bootcfg.exe. Now the question I have is, Alanoll put the bootcfg.exe file for download in that same thread, but I am curious can I actually use that file in home, and if so how do i set it up so that I can use it in home, and if I can set it up to work in home, how do I set it up so it gets automatically installed with and unattended install. Now if I can't use bootcfg.exe at all in home, I saw a post by XPC-001 about him changing the boot.ini file manually using this method: [boot loader] timeout=0 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional Custom Boot Logo" /fastdetect /kernel=oemkrnl.exe multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect Now will this method work with XP Home, and if so will this allow me to have a custom bootscreen by using the oemkrnl.exe method. Now if this does work for home, is there a way I can create a batch file to do this automatically during an unattended install of windows. Alanoll and XPC-001 I would appreciate your input on these methods. Thank You
  18. EDIT:I've reposted this question in the pinned thread Giving your windows cosmetic surgery.
  19. It is now a sif file, thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it.
  20. whenever i hover over the file it says text document, i take it it can NOT be a text document to work, and when it is in the proper format should i be able to easily open it with notepad, or would i have to do an open with
  21. I just made some changes. I just realized with that last post that that may be my problem, could you recommend how I can properly make sure it is named winnt.sif.txt Here are the changes ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes OemSkipEula=Yes WaitForReboot="No" KeyboardLayout="Canadian English" TargetPath=\WINDOWS [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=Removed for security purposes EncryptedAdminPassword=Yes OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=25 OemSkipWelcome=1 [userData] ProductKey=Removed for security purposes FullName="Removed For Security Purposes" OrgName="None" ComputerName=ASUKA [Display] BitsPerPel=32 Xresolution=1024 YResolution=768 Vrefresh=60 [TapiLocation] CountryCode=107 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=306 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=13,17,3,2,5,16,4,12,15,7,8,10,11,9,6,14,1 Language=00001009 [identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes [shell] CustomDefaultThemeFile = "%WinDir%\Resources\Themes\CrystalBlue.theme" DefaultStartPanelOff = No
  22. Hi there, I am a noob to unattended installations, and I just don't know what is going wrong. I did everything that the official unattended guide told me to do to create the answer file, I also added extras for what I wanted it to do. I put the winnt.sif file in the i386 folder of my slipstreamed sp2 folder, then i created an iso image of the slipstreamed xp sp2. When i test it in vmware, it does not put in the settings that are in the answer file. I want to choose my partition and which file system i wanna use, but I want the GUI install to be totally unattended, but the prob is when i get to the gui part, it does not do what it should from the winnt.sif file. I have posted my winnt.sif file below of course removing certain info, can anyone please tell me what I have done wrong. Please post a copy of my winnt.sif file with any alterations i need to make, so that when I run vmware, I can choose the file system and partition but have the rest of it unattended. ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated=0 UnattendedInstall=Yes AutomaticUpdates=yes [unattended] UnattendMode=GuiAttended OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS UnattendSwitch=yes WaitForReboot=No [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=Removed Password Encryption Info EncryptedAdminPassword=Yes OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=25 OemSkipWelcome=1 [Display] Xresolution=1024 Yresolution=768 [userData] ProductKey=Removed Key For Now FullName=Something OrgName=None ComputerName=Something [TapiLocation] CountryCode=107 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=306 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=13,17,3,2,5,16,4,12,15,7,8,10,11,9,6,14,1 Language=00001009 [shell] CustomDefaultThemeFile="%WinDir%\Resources\Themes\CrystalBlue.theme" DefaultStartPanelOff=No [identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes
