  1. I should have figured as much... at least it's an easy fix for the next build. Thanks!
  2. Okay, just did build 1.9 today. Added "Sound Controllers" and the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" thing; sound and the background problem are now solved! Only "problem" remaining: Couldn't help but notice "Windows Update" and "Internet Explorer" have that default program icon... It's not a big deal either. Heck, if it improves performance, I don't really care anyway. But out of curiosity, I guess I'd like to know what caused it. I'm sure it's something simple, but it was fine in build 1.8 I'll attach my files for 1.8 and 1.9 LAST_SESSION_1.8.txt LAST_SESSION_1.9.txt
  3. Thanks for the reply. When I build 1.9 I'll include the sound driver and check out "Sound Controllers" in nLite. I'll also include "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" just to see if that fixes the problem. - Anthony
  4. Okay, just did build 1.8 today. It's basically 1.7 with the "Out Of Box Experience" included (I don't know how it was deleted in 1.7...) The ISO file is ~ 200 MB and installed (without updates) it comes out to ~ 900 MB. The only "problem" left is the desktop icon background that I mentioned before: But if you set it to classic background you won't notice it anyway. It's working great in VirtualBox. Configuration is attached. EDIT: While testing, it seems my audio isn't working... I think this is a driver issue because "Multimedia Audio Controller" shows up as not having a driver. I had it search Windows Update; no luck either. I bet it has something to do with VirtualBox though. LAST_SESSION_1.8.txt LAST_SESSION_1.8.txt
  5. I checked that; the colors are set to 32 bit. Build 1.5 didn't have this problem; I guess I could cross reference my ".ini" files for 1.5 and 1.7... LAST_SESSION_1.5.txt LAST_SESSION_1.7.txt LAST_SESSION_1.5.txt LAST_SESSION_1.7.txt
  6. Safe side? Is it possibly the one which description says "Don't select this for removal or you won't be able to activate Windows."; Out of the Box Experience? I'm afraid if you missed that, you missed lot more. I guess "Safe" meant as far as the internet goes. Anyone have an idea on the icon thing?
  7. UPDATE: made build 1.7 today; working great! Internet is now working! I went on the safe side and kept just about everything. The ISO is ~ 200 MB and the installation is ~ 800 MB. Windows Update works great too. 2 last things: 1) I guess I removed the utility that allows me to activate Windows... I'll post my .ini file here 2) This is only aesthetic, but why does my Recycle Bin have this weird blue background? I'm almost there but I'd appreciate any help! Thanks! LAST_SESSION_1.7.txt
  8. When I installed the un-nLited XP on VirtualBox, internet worked out of the box. Thanks for looking at my .ini file; I'll make 1.6 soon and let you know how it goes. EDIT Finished 1.6 today; pretty happy with it. Not working: Internet To do: remove IE (but still have internet access via another browser) Attached: 2 files. 1) Last_Session.ini 2) List of all Components not removed in nLite LAST_SESSION_1.6.txt nLite_build_1.6.txt
  9. yellowsnow4free, did you do this? Seems to me that two out of three is not bad. You took out Ethernet (LAN) - candidate? Take a look. Get the Internet working, then take out IE and whatever, testing to be sure you are OK. Enjoy, John. I did; I was pretty careful not to delete anything that looked important. I'm pretty happy with my latest build (1.5). If I can get the internet working I'll be really happy though.
  10. Okay, I've made another revision (now version 1.5) I basically followed this guide (with some modifications). The good: Windows XP theme is working, so are the backgrounds. Windows Update is working as well. Also, the installation is even smaller (829 MB!) The bad: Internet is still not working. Also, IE, Remote Assistance, and E-mail are still installed. I want to remove IE but keep online capability. My '.ini' file is attached. Thanks! LAST_SESSION_1.5.txt
  11. I apologize in advance if I'm breaking any rules by posting this. I'm an nLite noob, and I've been messing with nLite all day. I'm using nLite because I hope to do a dual-boot with Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop; XP will only be there for gaming. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525. I'd like full hardware functionality/compatibility, Windows XP theme ("Bliss" background, no "Windows Classic" Theme), with everything else stripped for gaming-only. I've made a few builds, (tested on a virtual machine) but I don't have internet access and I'm stuck in the "Windows Classic" theme. I'm sure it has something to do with the components I removed. Anyway, if someone has customized XP for a gaming application or has some helpful info for me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! Oh, BTW, I've attached a .txt file of my build. LAST_SESSION.txt
  12. UPDATE Okay, I made my first XP ISO today. I'm currently testing it in VirtualBox. As I said before, this is for a "gaming" application (gaming only because I dual boot with Ubuntu for everything else) Everything seems to be working except for: 1) Internet. I deleted IE and tried to install Google Chrome, but it doesn't detect that my internet is connected. 2) Windows Update. I'm sure this was just an option I accidentally selected. 3) Theme. It's in Windows Classic theme right now, no "Bliss" background either. I think this might have to do with "Active Desktop" being turned off. I'm going to attach my "Last Session" file, just for debugging. Thanks! LAST_SESSION.txt
  13. Thanks so much for the reply! That answers most of my questions. As far as question 2 goes, I'd like to do this one: I'll look into the drivers as well.
  14. Not to bring up an old thread, but this fits my situation perfectly. I'd like to make a XP Home SP3 specifically for gaming. It'll be used in a dual boot with Ubuntu, so no internet required. In the meantime I'm going to play around with nLite. But if anyone has a config/tips on nLite just for gaming, I'd appreciate it. EDIT: Fiddling with nLite here... first test compressed XP to ~160 MB with SP3 (is that even possible?) I'm going to do another build in a bit, this time by removing everything then adding what I want. I'll attach my "LastSession.ini" once I'm done.
  15. I don't want to put in the key because I'd like to put in the key later. That way this can be a universal "Lite XP SP3" install disc.
  16. I have a Dell Windows XP Home Edition SP2 Reinstallation CD (image here). First Question: Will this CD work with nLite? I'm hoping to use a nLite'd version of XP in a dual-boot with Ubuntu 9.10; the XP partition will be gaming-only (maybe a couple other programs too). After watching a video tutorial on YouTube, it looks like nLite asks for your Windows Serial in the setup process. Second Question: What happens if I leave that "Windows Serial" area blank? Finally, drivers. When I installed XP on this laptop before, (I think) most of the drivers came off the Dell CD. Third Question: After I install XP via nLite, to install the missing drivers couldn't I just have XP look on my Dell CD? Fourth Question: I'm trying to get my XP SP3 install as small as possible. What drivers are 100% required to be put on the nLite Windows Installer? Thanks!
