  1. Microsoft is bloating Windows in every new relase.

Windows 8 Metro brings no advantages for people that does not have an touchscreen equiped computer. Heck, it is just annoying with a mouse. By the other side, GNOME3 still is very usefull with a mouse.

Windows 8 uses a lot of Hard Disk space with stuff that I will never use. I miss the option in Windows 95/98 when you could select what to install.

Windows 8 "Aero" just can't be disabled through options, that means more megabytes of memory and processing that could be used in something else.

Windows 8 brings a new "Fast boot" technology that works nicely if and only if you do not have another OS installed. otherwise every change you do in any shared partition through another OS will make Windows get confused and corrupt the added files.

Heck, Windows 8 does not support less-than-32bits colors at all, they had to include an buggy wrapper for legacy applications.

  2. Well, I got Linux installed in this computer, and i'm sharing a 400gb NTFS partition with Linux and Windows. I run into a problem while mounting it on Linux when Windows 8 Fast Startup is enabled, so I just disable it for a while.

Now, i've planned to "fix" it. I wrote a program to mount/umount the partition on Windows, and it should be run at Shutdown (umount) and Startup (mount), it is working very well, now I can write files into the partition with Linux wihout Windows bugging me when trying to access it.

So I just went to configure the scripts at group policy, but i found out that my Windows 8 copy does not include it (OEM -_-).

So... is there a way to add'em into Windows startup/shutdown wihout the Group policy editor? Or maybe another solution to the problem?

  3. I got some problems while integrating netfx and the directx update:

    gzOzHqg.png

I used 7zsd to create the silent executable, that sould launch the setup in silence mode. But all I got is that. Note that the file is extracted correctly, as you can see in the command prompt :(

  4. Yo!

Well, i use Brazilian Portuguese Windows XP and I want to integrate all XP updates. I Can't find any packages with all updates, so I decided to create my own.

First, I used WSUS Offline updator to download all Brazilian XP updates, including IE8, WMP11, and DOTNETFX. Then I will need to slipstream it into my XP-SP3, and I plan to use nLite for that.

My question is: Do I need to handle some updates separately? I've read somewhere that I need to patch and repack IE8 and WMP11, is that true? How can I do it?

If someone here already got a packages with all Brazilian Portuguese updates, I would be thankful :)

  5. Hello.

I'm using an old SP3 version. I can say that it is great! It reads all flash drives that i put into the USB ports, and other things.

About the recovering the old icons: Resource hacker can't handle'em? I remember a mod for Windows XP called IneXPerience that replaces the XP icons and resources with 2000-like. A very nice mod.

Also, another thing, can I just install the new one, or I will need a clean Win98 instalation?

    THings installed here:

    Adobe Flash Player 10

    foobar2000

    KEX 4.5.2

    .NET frameworks 1.1 and 2.0

    IE6

    mIRC

    Opera 10.52

    Visual C++ 6.00

    MingW32

    WinRAR.

    Windows 98SE English.

  6. Hello.

Well, I'm using the last version of KernelEX, Opera 10.52 and Flash Player 10.3 in order to get Youtube videos running. I Can run it under 32-bits in very slow mode, but I can't run at 16-bits. (Make Opera to Crash)

If I switch the color deeprate to 16-bits while the video is running, It plays normally, and I see a BIG speed gain.

Anyway, is there a way to see youtube videos under 16-bits color mode in opera? I don't mind in changing my browser or the flash player version btw.

    Thanks.

    Windows 98SE SP3.

    Intel Pentium 4 1.6ghz

    S3 ProSavage 32mb

  7. Hello.

Is there a way to make Windows XP icons look like Windows NT wihout using mods?

I've tried using the register to change the bpp as told in this topic: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/122313-tweakuis-rebuild-icons-feature-turns.html but it does not seems to work for me :(

I've read in somewhere that I can do it using a old TweakUI. I'm NOT going to do it because it may broke the system, since it is for NT/2K, not XP

so... what can I do? I like the classic view :D

  8. Result of the 5eraph XP64 addon: Corrupted Permision control. It is giving me errors that I do not have acess (administrator) to anything that is inside the Windows Folder. Please take a look at my nLite settings.

Used nLite, and I did integrated a lot of addons, like the 2011 DirectX, and Internet Explorer 8.

Added some custom addons made by myself. I don't think that those can cause this kind-of fail, i've did exectly like 32-bits Windows XP.

Used my real computer for testing. Got a 20gb partition to mess with OSes. My computer do not support 64-bits virtualization mode, but it can run 64-bit code (EM64T from Prescott's Pentium 4)

  9. Hello Guys. I'm Slipstreaming some applications under Windows XP instalation, and those application will interact with the user in the instalation. But i'm with some issues.

I've created a batchscript to display an option, and the user should press 1-4. Everything is in command Line. The problem is that VirtualBox is Showing strings competly wrong.

I dunno if it is VirtualBox's fault. I've integrated those stuff with nLite. My addon is made by myself using winRAR SFX, cabarc, and batchscripting. After Failed in the OUT stuff, i've converted it to C. same result

    jwmxO.png

I gonna upload my addon soon. I'm with issues in 4shared.

  10. Heya Guys. I'm trying to get Kernel Streaming in foobar2000 with Windows 98. I've already got the WDM for mine AWE64 Standard Edition drivers installed, But foobar can't detect a kernel streaming device. Do anyone know a player with low-cpu usage that supports KernelStreaming? (i want KS mainly due the low-cpu usage :D)

  11. Oh, Thanx for the quick answer. But then i need to use a Neutral Language IE9 and Integrate the Portuguese MSU right? both in the "Update" tab of RT tool?

    [edit]

I just did that, the IE was in english and there was noway to change the language. I think i'm going to add the EXE IE9 as an Application, running with /quiet /norestart /X:%SYSTEMDRIVE%\IE9

  12. I Solved my problem, I got the error code, it was 1603. Here is the step i did to suceffully install it:

1°- Install the Windows Installer 4.5 for Windows XP 32-bits.

2°- Apply the KB972397 Hotfix. Sorry, you will need to request that fix from Microsoft.

3°- Cleaned All Office folder inside "Program Files" (C:\Program Files\Office)

4°- Opened the Regedit (Start>Run>Regedit>), navigated into the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\] and deleted the Office Entry there.

5°- Run those commands in Command Prompt (Start>Run>CMD):

    net stop winmgmt
    net start winmgmt
    rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepository
    cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
    for %i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %i
    for %i in (*.exe) do %i /RegServer

    6°- Restarted the Computer.

    7°- Disable AV-Application

8°- Run the "SETUP.EXE" inside my Office 2010 Disc, selected "Custom" in instalation menu, then Removed EVERYTHING but Word and Excel. Otherwise i allways got that error.

9°- When the Instalation Finish, Open the SETUP.EXE agan, select "Custom" in Instalation Menu, Then Install the Other app like Power point, Acess, Office Tools, Etc.

Then it should be running. As far i've seen, A Lot of people is suffering of this issue. I guess it should be stickfied.
