  1. We have a HP Pavilion Slimline S5-1260 with installed Win 7 Home Premium OS. My brother attempted to install Ubuntu some time ago and was unsuccessful. So later he attempted to install Mint and was successful. But then the machine was no longer able to boot to win 7. I don't think any partition was formatted but he later installed another version of win 7 in one partition from which the machine now boots from. I was wondering how to enable the original partition containing the original Win 7 Home Premium with it's hp recovery etc. Is that possible to do at this point? Of note computer management indicates that the drive is divided into 4 partitions. System Reserve 100 MB, C 638.45 GB, F Ubuntu 146.48 GB and G Backup 146.48 GB. All partitions are NTFS.
  2. Well I must say that I clearly remember enabling mixed mode and I am not too familiar with SQL, therefore I wouldn't know how to check. I also remember that when I did this before in vista I was able see the db in the SQL listing and was able to run settings for it in order for the program to properly. I ran D'peg as admin and I had no luck. I don't if I should install or run SQL as admin and I don't know if that's even possible. Also what would be a good way to uninstall SQL. TIA
  3. I have win 7 ultimate ed 64 bit in desktop and I have installed SQL SERVER 2008. A duplicate manager program called D'peg that I have has the option for creating an mdf file but I get the following after creating it (see below). D'peg was created to run for Vista and I had D'peg running with SQL before but under win 7 it doesn't work. When I installed SQL SERVER 2008 I installed mixed mode as requested in order to run D'peg but installed 64 bit version of SQL. Maybe that's the problem. I also clearly remember that under Vista the mdf file was created and quickly became associated with the server but now I can easily delete it from the folder which is something I couldn't do before. Also should I uninstall SQL SERVER 2008. TIA
  4. Yes it is a USB enclosure. I have tried using the utility program you suggested but I tried it on a flash drive first. Anyhow when I tried it BIOS again sees the drive and all I get is the start of "c:>". It doesn't do anything after that. I am going to try ubuntu and see if that works.
  5. I have posted this issue on another forum, hopefully I can get help here. TIA. I have a WD5000AAKB IDE external drive (500 GB) in a rosewill external enclosure. This HDD is seen at BIOS when starting up but when it comes time to loading up Vista I get a black screen and it freezes. This is just before I am suppose to key in my password. Also when I have the computer on and then connect the HDD, the computer freezes (windows explorer) which forces me to reboot. I have also tried to place this HDD internally and at boot up it freezes as aforementioned. When I tried connecting it internally it didn't work but when I disconnected the HDD it felt heavier or as if there was a different weight distribution. What can I do?
  6. I am interested in using these drivers to fix my Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 HDD but I am having some problems with them please all my posts especially http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=905139. TIA
  7. I have the Nokia CA-42 USB Cable. I don't have a CD that came with it and I got it from eBay. I did some digging and found this http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t125471.html. I dled both and I installed the seperate folder but I can't install the combined folder. Also when I installed the setup for the seperate folder I got an error message stating that Nokia Modem (11/05/2007 6.85.0.1) Install failed (unsigned). Also I have uninstalled all previous Nokia drivers in the XP system. Afterwards I attached the cable without HDD to test I am still getting a failure to install drivers. What could I do?
  8. Hello Tracy I am attempting the exact same fix on my Seagate Barracuda 7200.11. The problem I am experiencing is when I power the drive and then after it spins down completely. Afterwards I plug the USB into the port and when my machine detects a new device it is not able to install drivers. I have installed the Handset_USB_Driver_32_v2.6.2.0 (Motorola Drivers) and then the PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_10311 drivers. Just so you know I have a dual OS desktop with Vista Ultimate 64x and XP Pro in that order.
  9. So I am trying to fix my seagate and I have the cable but the drivers are not working for me. I installed Handset_USB_Driver_32_v2.6.2.0 drivers for XP and at first I wasn't getting the prompt for new hardware but now I get a code 10 error. For that error I did try to uninstall USB controller drivers and that didn't help, especially if your you disengage the drivers for the mouse and keyboard. So then I installed the PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_10311 drivers that I think Vista recommends. BTW I have a triple OS system: Vista, XP and Ubuntu. The prolific drivers I think gave me a code 1 error in Vista. In short I am having trouble with the drivers that won't install for a new device, assuming I have the connections correct which I think I do then the drivers are the only thing in my way.
  10. I am attempting to fix my hdd using the method mentioned here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29FztWJVxbM. I have stripped the nokia cable and attached the wires using the pins in blue, green and white repectively. I powered up the hdd and then detached the power supply after it spins down and then pluged in the USB and XP is not detecting new hardware. What can I do? Actually I have tried another front port and it did detect new hardwware but it could not installed properly.
  11. Hello I am new here and I believe I have the same problem. I had the .11 which I partitoned into 100GB for a C drive OS etc and then 650GB for mostly multimedia. I have reinstalled Vista into a new HDD but don't have Hyperterminal. So I installed HyperACCESS for 15 day trial period, is that good enough? Also how would you connect the battery to the drive since I don't want to mess from the power supply. And if I do get this fixed where do I get the new firmware?
