  1. OK so I got ALL my data back! I was hanging up after the m0,2,2,,,,,22 command as I was saying. So I found a few people that recommend power off and back on. So here is what I did. I would only recommend this for people that are hanging up after issuing the m0,2,2,,,,,22 command. If you issue that command and it sounds like the drive powers off (like I saw and some other people were seeing) try this (FROM START)... 1. Power off everything 2. Unscrew PCB from HDA, put cardboard to isolate the 4 contacts (i think it was 4) 3. Power up hard disk using power from PC 4. Use hyperterminal -> Ctrl-Z 5. Issue the /2 and Z commands F3 T>/2 F3 2>Z Spin Down Complete Elapsed Time 0.128 msecs 6. Remove the cardboard isolation. Screw in all remaining screws to secure PCB to HDA. 7. Issue the rest of the commands F3 2>U Spin Up Complete Elapsed Time 6.736 secs F3 2>/1 F3 1>N1 F3 1>/T F3 T>i4,1,22 F3 T> 8. After the above, I waited a while (few minutes) and then powered off the hard disk (remove and reseat the hard disk power cable from PC) 9. Issue the final command F3 T>m0,2,2,,,,,22 Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 14, Max Certify Rewr ite Retries = 00C8 User Partition Format 4% complete, Zone 00, Pass 00, LBA 00004339, ErrCode 000 User Partition Format 4% complete, Zone 00, Pass 00, LBA 00008DED, ErrCode 000 00080, Elapsed Time 0 mins 10 secs User Partition Format Successful - Elapsed Time 0 mins 10 secs F3 T> I unplugged the hard drive power and then connected it up like normal and sat and prayed as I watched my windows explorer bring up my D: with ALL of my stuff on it. 10 years of photos and ~30,000 MP3's. BOYAH!!!
  2. OK I got all the way to the end finally with a CA-42. The last step is hanging like posted several times elsewhere in the forum. m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 Just sits there and does nothing. No response. I also tried the suggestion on page 26 F,,22 and that worked fine Then did the m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 and still nothing. I am so close. Anyone have any other things to try PLEASE? In fact it sounds like it is powering down when I run m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 One other thing. When I do the F712 I get this back: F3 T>F712 Byte:05A1: Expansion = 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 '' Seems wrong to me. thanks. Mark
  3. Well it seems that no one is looking at this thread anymore. Too bad. I did get to page 89 finally and see that the CA-53 does not work. So I ordered up a CA-42 and will just wait for it to get in and try it.
  4. I have been reading through all of this and I got to page 50 before I decided to just add a couple questions before I TRY to get my drive back up and running. First some background information: I have a GOOD STM31000334AS and a BAD STM31000334AS. The bad drive is not seen in the bios and does make a bit of a clicking sound every 10 seconds or so. Seagate says that this is not a firmware issue and is a bad drive and just said to send it back for replacement. I don't want to do that until I am SURE that I can't get it fixed first. I took the good board and put it on the bad drive and the drive is THEN seen in the bios but makes stranger sounds for 20 seconds and then system will not boot. I should note there that this is NOT my boot drive so not sure why vista won't boot. I unplug the bad drive and it boots fine. So 2 questions to this point... #1. Does anyone that has or had this problem (that got is sucessfully fixed) have a drive that makes a slight clicking sound? Is that normal? #2. I just got a cable from a friend at Nokia and it's a CA-53 Nokia cable. WILL this cable work or has anyone tried using it? CA-53 is here http://www.nokia.co.in/find-products/acces...kia-cable-ca-53 Thanks in advance for any insight that you can provide BTW... The CA-53 has 4 wires inside it. Black / Red / White / Green.
