[Help] How to remove all references of older creator/owner
psychedelic_fur replied to psychedelic_fur's topic in Windows XP
Hi Sonic, Thanks for the information I will take care of using tags in future. Regards. -
Hi All, I was wondering if there is a way to completely remove all reference to the old cretor/owner. The scenario is something like this. You have repaired your windows installation, which will create new user, alluser etc folders in "documents and settings" folder even if you give the same user during installation (XP Pro and probably other windows nt versions append something or the other like "username.compute name" or "username_string" etc..) anyways back to the issue. The issue is that before you have repaired your windows installation you might have created lots of files and directory. On a NTFS partition, if you see the properties you will see list of user and access rights they have on the particular file or directory. After the windows repair since the original user who has created the file is no longer there since the user Security Identifier (SID) has changed, therfore we see a user like ?SID-and long string of digits, sometimes the same user is also the owner of a particular file or directory and what if he is also a member of admin group and has revoked all permissions to a file, in that case the new user even if they are adminstrator of their pc can't access a particular file. So how do I remove references of old owner/creator so as to gain access to a particular file. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong. Thanks and Regards. Hi Friends, I have a requirement. In my development environment I start a batch file which opens a windows shell, setup some environment variables and before exiting opens up another shell with the environment set and default directory set. I then type in the required command to actually start working. This command takes in 7-8 parameters to start a required process. So my requirement is how do I automate this, I do not want to type in the command every time (or do a copy-paste to start working) You guys may say that put the command in the batch file and just execute once you are on your command prompt, but I do not want to do this. What I am really looking for is that I just click the mouse button, which starts a batch file and pass my command to the final shell opened by the batch file. Hope I am clear in what I am looking for. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know. Thanks and Regards.

How to:- Installing Ethernet (LAN card) Drivers
psychedelic_fur replied to psychedelic_fur's topic in Windows XP
Hi newcomer, Yes I have also noticed this fact. But I just wanted to know in case you have specified the network details during the installation. I don't know why Windows installation asks for Network details when it cannot configure it properly. It has never worked for me atleast. So in case you come across some information on how to do it please let me know. Regards. -
Hi All, Recently I had to reinstall windows XP on one of my friend's PC. I actually didn't do a complete fresh install but re-installed in the hope it will fix various registry errors and system stability error. So during the installation when the user is asked to specify the network configuration details like IP address, DNS, gateway etc, I had supplied the correct details. Once the installation was over I thought things will be fine, they were except that the windows did not installed the network card properly. I checked Hardware manager to see if there is a conflict or not, it was not. Clicking on network connection icon in the tray revealed that the IP address, gateways etc settings were there as I had entered during the installation. So I could not figure out the problem. Later running the ipconfig /all command from the command prompt revealed that physical address (MAC) of my network card is zero ! I have no idea why that happened but anyways I tried to reinstall the network card drivers, I even pulled out the network card from the pci slot inserted in a differernt slot hoping windows will recognize it as a new hardware but not luck. The MAC address was still coming to be zero. Ultimately I had to do a fresh install and configured the network card again to get things working. Now my net connection is working fine. So I want to know if such things happen again i.e. MAC address becomes zero, what files, drivers I should install, delete and which registry entries shall I remove so that I am able to setup my network card again without having to go through the process of reinstalling windows again which is obvoiusly pain. Sorry if I had posted in wrong section. Any help is appreciated. Thanks and Regards.

Hi All, I have 2 internet connections from different providers. Both connections requires different sets of windows services to run, hence I have created 2 hardware profiles and select one of them at startup, but the machine IP remains same. Since both connections have different IP's, DNS and Gateway settings, it is kinda tedious to everytime change your network settings when you want to use either of the two connections. Therefore I would like to have done this automatically i.e my machine should have different set of IP and server settings depending on hardware profile chosen at startup. So can someone please share some insights on how to configure my pc to have such settings. Please note: I am looking for software only solutions. I am not sure but I think it can be done with hardware based solution. Thanks and Regards.

Hi, Sorry for a late reply. I did everthing right as suggested by the IAA installer. The chipset software installation utility is installed properly and I have also verified that, but somehow just no luck installing IAA. I am able to update the drivers for IAA so that it shows Intel® 82801DB Ultra ATA controller instead of Intel® 82801DB Ultra ATA storage controller but as soon as I reboot my computer it again goes back to Intel® 82801DB Ultra ATA storage controller. Seems like reinstall of OS is the only option left Regards.

Hi Friends, First of all "Happy New Year To All !!" . Have a great year ahead. Now the problem... Recently I have re-installed WindowXP Pro. Totally fresh copy. After this installed lot of softwares, but forgot to installed Intel Application Accelerator drivers. Now I am unable to install the driver. The installation goes smoothly. However when I try to verify the driver installation, I get the message "Drivers not installed". My system configuration is Motherboard - Intel 845GBV Chipset - Intel 845G RAM - DDR266 512 MB Graphics Card - NVidia Ge Force 5200 on AGP slot In the Device Manger under IDE/ATA Controller, the first controller listed is Intel® 82801DB Ultra ATA storage controller - 24CB. I have no idea from where this storage controller came in, before reinstall it was used to be Ultra ATA Controller. The intel chipset identification utility (chiputil.exe v3.05) identifies the following Detected Chipset - Please use version 2.91 of the utility to identify your chipset Memory Controller: Failed to identify your chipset I/O Controller: Intel® 82801DB I/O controller hub (ICH4) Integrated Graphics: Not Detected or Disabled I haven't tried v2.91 yet. So I am not sure what is going on? Why I am unable to install app accelerator ? I guess that storage controller is causing the problem (just a wild guess). Initially I thought the NVidia drivers may be causing the problem, so I removed the AGP card, uninstalled the drivers. Installed Intel Graphics Accelerator drivers, but still I was unable to install app accelerator. I am trying to install intel app accelerator v2.3, but I have tried installing older versions also but no luck. Can someone please help me in installing the app accelerator? Thanks in advance. Regards.

Installation monitor, registry cleaner
psychedelic_fur replied to Wai_Wai's topic in Software Hangout
Hi, I use Total Uninstall which monitors all the changes made by the application be it registry or file changes. Also monitor the changes if the application requires a reboot it continues after the reboot. It then creates a creates a text file and allows to uninstall the application later smoothly. U can also try Norton Cleen Sweep, it is also good but is bulky compared to Total Uninstall. Hope this might help.
