Does anyone really know the reasons why we need to separate Doc and Settings(D&S) / Program Files(PF) from Windows? I just remeber one site tells us to do so. But later I just wonder why we have to do so.

hehe... Happy to hear that you like the idea of "download buffer zone". <-- it's my little idea If you upload things too, it is a good idea to open an upload buffer zone too. Or you may combine two into one, ie download/upload buffer zone. And since you put it in a faster drive, you may experience a slightly better performace. In fact, if you are a heavy downloader, you may consider the use of RAM drive (ie allocation of some RAM and they will act as a virtual hard drive). Advantage: - your real hard disk is safe from a lot of read-write process - no fragmentation issue - boost the performance much further. You know, how fast RAM writes and reads! Conditions: - I think there's no free software for that. You may try http://www.superspeed.com/ramdisk.html I haven't tried it frankly. - You need to have enough free RAM. Otherwise how come you can allocate your RAM to act as a virtual drive.

As far as I know, there is a difference: Abbreviation: MS Official SP2 CD = MS's nlite's slipstreamed SP2 CD = nl's Negative points to MS's - MS's contains security updates up to SP2. You can make a nl's with the most recent updates (ie SP2 + afterward security fixes) - With MS's, you have to install their default contents. You can customize with nl's. You can choose which to install, which not (eg no screensaver, no accessibility tools) - MS's can't do so. But with nl's, you can customize the default installation path of windows and a lot of other default locations. And you can build an unattended windows by nlite. - Afterward, you just need to insert your nl's and it will do all for you. Save a lot of troubles if you do this with MS's Negative points to nlite - You may miss the some updated tools, or some updated files (which is not available through Windows update) on MS SP2 CD. Then if you slipstream your CD with SP1 CD, you will miss all that So the solution is to slipstream with SP2 CD. - The final point is nlite may not do its job well during the slipstream. No one knows if your nl's can work fine. A lot of factors will affect the result. In this regard, MS's is the safest. After all, it is just a minor point.

Making Multi-Operating-Systems work I'm a newbie to this sort of ideas. I would like to setup 2 windows: - Wins XP Pro (SP1) - "Wins 98" or "Wins XP Pro (SP1)" again Purpose of second operating system: Common purpose: - I use it to test software, drivers, updates and so on. So even if they crashes my system, I can simply reformat them and start over it again. Wins 98: - I might wish to install it because I can play old games - but you know, Wins 98 is faulty. Partition Issue - FAT32, temp, Wins, Prog File, Doc&Set, Personal Data I would like to ask for comments/suggestions for the following partition plans: C: FAT32 drive + SWAP/pagefile, temp, no-need-keep files - 3GB I will format all my drives as NTFS. But I don't know if it is a good idea to keep a FAT32 drive. To me it seems safe to keep just in case it needs. (eg I think DOS can only read FAT32, right?) <-- Tell me why if you don't suggest this. But it is a waste to put a FAT32 drive empty. So I use this drive to put some rubbish, or temporary files. I think this will change the default directory of cookies (and I don't think the files will be transferred to the new one, right?). Anyway, it doesn't matter. But will IE automatically create a new index.dat in the new default directory? I got the "TweakUI". But it doesn't work well. First it doesn't move my files to the new directory. Second, the right-drag folder method does work for most of the time. The windows will complain that it is a special folder and is not allowed to move, or some other errors saing moving cannot be proceeded. One folder it works is desktop. But sometimes windows will reassign the desktop to its default directory. Then I get 2 desktops. I have to re-move the desktop again to fix the problem. I don't know how to stop it from happening again.

Help! Login account suddenly disappear All my accounts disappeared. I shutted it down and restarted my computer. The problem still prevailed. I can still enter into Windows XP. Files and folders are still there. But I just can't login using these accounts. How can I re-enable my accounts and allow me to login properly? Don't try to see open source as a threat, but as an advantage. When a very critical bug was discovered that affected Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird, an update to fix this problem was available within 48 hours. Could you give me an example? Firefox allows plugins (aka "extensions") and visual themes to be installed. A couple of popular extensions such as Adblock (advertisement blocker), All-in-one Gestures (allows you to control the browser with mouse gestures) or Web Developer are available. MozBackup can take care of that. It works for Moz/FF/TB. Example? I haven't noticed any problems with sites which use BIG5(HKSCS) or SHIFT_JIS. This also depends on the doctype that needs to be specified. I missed the point that it has lots of extensions. so doesn't a valid point now.
