  1. To add to my earlier post: Someone told me that by putting the Windows Install disk in and choosing the repair option, it would reinstall windows but not format my drive. This is good, but what I don't know is if it will reset my services back to default. Any help on this would be great. Thanks.
  2. In your GPO editor, what is the policy name you are changing?
  3. I have Win Server 2k3 R2 fully patched. I need to reinstall my OS to get rid of some bad updates and registry hacks. Is there a way to do this without losing my active directory, DNS, DHCP, Routing and Remote Access, and Domain Controller Settings? Also, without losing my applications, shares, and security settings.
  4. Here is my situation I recently changed my DHCP configuration to have the DNS servers provided by my ISP as primary DNS and my internal DNS as secondary. We are a public library. Our website is hosted off site. However, our website links to our online catalog server that is on our internal network. When we click the link to the catalog server while on our internal network, the browser cannot find the page. The IP address on the link on our website is one of our public IP addresses at our library. When the DNS server returns the external IP address, our internal computers can't see it. I think what I need to do is set up some sort of alias or a static route, but I'm not sure exactly what to do. Thanks for your help. Our website is here.
  5. Windows Server 2003 R2 is the fully patched version. There are several security problems with 2k3 that they fixed with the service packs that are included in 2k3R2. I am not aware of any advantages to going with 2k3 instead of 2k3R2. Go with 2003 R2.
  6. On 2/13/09 I did windows update on my server. It included 3 updates. They are listed here: 1. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - February 2009 (KB890830) 2. Update Rollup for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Server 2003 (KB960715) 3. Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Server 2003 (KB961260) I immediately had problems on my network with internet connections. Most all of the clients have spotty connectivity. When they don't connect they simply have to push refresh and the page loads. Also, overall performance is slower. I looked through my updates to see what might be causing the problem and I believe it is number 2. from above. I went into add/remove programs and located the update and tried to uninstall it but every time I try and uninstall, the wizard crashes. It now does this with everything. I cannot uninstall anything. Also, when I click on "Add/Remove Windows Components", a box pops up and says "Windows Setup: Please wait" and then it goes away. The new box never opens. I went to the WINDOWS folder and located the uninstall folder for that update, but got the same results.
