  1. i dont even remember when my friend told me about the customized install, maybe 3-4 yrs ago. i've never looked back since then. i realized it could help me as a computer lab admin. i can customize a CD to repartition/reformat/reinstall windows all in one shot. who wouldnt want that?? i have 1 image for each computer lab. i try to keep them updated as much as possible so that way, once a yr when it's time to format, i can do it with relative ease. but it also helps me at home, so i'd vote for both if i could.
  2. sorry that i didnt mention this earlier, but i use a batch file. it's after windows has installed (sometimes you can use it in the cmdlines.txt) but just a regular batch file Startup.bat (or something) with that line inside.
  3. Back-story: having problems with some CD drives. they are booting EXTREMELY slow. i figure that it'd be easier to pull the hdd, copy setup files from a temp pc then put the drive back into original pc and finish up. Problem: i am using this line at the cmd prompt [E:I386>winnt32.exe /noreboot /dudisable /makelocalsource /syspart:g /tempdrive:g /unattend:winnt.sif] but my unattended switch is not working. i get an error msg "this specified setup script file (winnt.sif) is inaccessible or invalid". i get that msg when using that line from the original CD or when i put in the full path to a separate winnt.sif file on another drive. i have even tried to use unattended.sif, but that did not work either. Questions: can i copy setup files from hdd1 to hdd2 AND still be able to use my winnt.sif file?? after the setup files are copied, would copying the $oem$ folders to the drive allow them to work?? i also noticed that the /makelocalsource only works when installing from a cd. is there anyway i can get local source to copy from hdd to hdd with the switches?? or should i just copy the source files to the hdd, and use /s switch?? thanks for any help. =====Post Nº2===== well through further reading, i have found that using the cmd prompt and all the switches is fine and dandy, BUT the guirunonce section of the winnt.sif causes the error. one question answered. still working on the others. but thanks for any help. {update} i copied the entire contents of the CD to a folder, and used that with all the switches, and everything seemed to work out ok. also found that copying the $oem$ folder into the $win_nt$.~LS folder is the key to getting the cmdlines and other things going. so it seems all my questions are answered. if you folks have hints for making things easier, then help me out.
  4. maybe your text was off somewhere. i have always used this: MP10Setup.exe /q:A /c:"setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N DisallowSystemRestore" and never had a problem once.
