Hello, We are trying to prepare our win2k domain to accept a 2k3 server. By doing this we have to run the ADprep utility, to prepare the forest, domain etc. When we run the utility, i get an error message right away saying "Failed to transfer the schema FSMO role : 52 <unavailable>" From here i am stuck, and have no solutions. I am logged on with correct permissions, and only have one other DC in the domain. Does anyone have some help for me? thank you. -konlin

Hello, We currently have 2 servers installed running win2k (sp3). I recently purchased a new beefy computer to which i would like to add to the current domain. I also purchased win2k3, then later found out that you cannot simply add it to 2k domains, until you run the adprep utility. Basically i am wondering if i can do this during the day, or is it a weekend job? Is it a simple utility to run? Should i back up specific files, incase of problems? How long approximately does it take? Do i have to run the adprep/forestprep first and then run the adprep/domainprep on both machines? Any other information would be greatly appreciated.
