  1. I have this problem too, in my Windows XP PRO SP2, and have had since years. I found a method, but not tried yet: this reg file remove all notification icons, that tend to become too much to be stored. After this, you need to reboot and set again which icons should stay hidden and which always shown, but your settings will finally stay saved. Create with notepad a .reg file with this: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify] "PastIconsStream"=- "IconStreams"=- and double click it.
