well, after several trials, I've narrowed it down to something in the unattended phase that's causing the hang. (I call it a hang, but I've actually seen it continue on it's own, after a pause of 30minutes-hour or so). I'm going to try it without the 'turn firewall off' option, maybe that's it...

Well, I'm having the same problem. Don't know why now, the first few I tried went fine, but now I'm always getting the freeze at about 40-45% of "registers components" progress bar. I've got a variety of options/tweaks, but other than that, only SP3 and IE7 are integrated. Nothing removed. Twice now I've gotten it to continue by going into the taskmgr and killing a proc called nhelper.exe It wasn't using any CPU, I just decided it looked like a likely culprit and sure enough.... killing it allows the process to continue.
