Howdy, all. Thanks for the nice forum, and for helping me out. I just got a laptop with Vistax64 Home on it and I want to "downgrade" to XP x64 Pro. I downloaded a supposedly untouched iso of XP Pro x64. I burned it and tried to install it, but it hung up with "STOP: 0x0000007b ...." error check your hard drive for errors and try again. Well, chkdsk found nothing wrong with the hard drive, and finally after looking about, I realize that that error is probably coming up because I need a SATA controller driver because XP doesn't have one on the install CD. Hmmm, having no floppy drive to load drivers at the F6 option, it seems that the easiest option is to use nLite (I've just started using, and really dig it!) and shove the driver into the XP boot CD and re-burn. My main issue is that... I can't figure out/ find which driver to use. ! I tried to add the ahcix64s.inf via nLite to a couple of boot disc burn attempts, but to no avail. It still stops at the same point with the same error. I suppose that's ok, because those useless burnt CD-Rs make for good microwave oven entertainment. Anyway, if you've made it this far in my saga, below are some possibly relevant specs from the machine. I would sincerely appreciate your help. Thanks in advance! HP actually gives a non-nLite way to accomplish the install of XP on SATA drive without floppy, but it seemed much trickier than nLite: [http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00758841&dlc=en&product=3795407] Hewlett-Packard Pavilion Notebook dv7-1130us [http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00042629&product=3795407&] [above link is the HP support for this laptop] OS [current]: Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1, build 6001 MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD: Hewlett-Packard 30FC 01.54 BIOS: Hewlett-Packard F.21 07/18/2008 DRIVE: WDC WD25 00BEVS-60UST0 SCSI Disk Device (250.06 GB) [in two partitions, NTFS formatted - Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVS] [http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=702〈=en] [drivers being used are disk.sys, hpdskflt.sys] CONTROLLERS: [all using atapi.sys, ataport.sys] ATA Channel 0 ATA Channel 1 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller [also using pciide.sys, pciidex.sys] BUS ADAPTERS: AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller [using ahcix64s.sys] AMD RAID Console [this is not being used, apparently - there are no drivers installed and it's not running] Microsoft iSCSI Initiator [for network devices, right? -nothing to do with my hdd? using msiscsi.sys, iscsilog.sys] Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller (2x) [not for hdd, right?] Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller (4x) [not for hdd, right?] Cheers and thanks!
