  1. Freeko, Thanks for the info. As I understand Smith Micro's statement, Expander is freeware but is not available separately, only as part of the Expander 2009 package which is a 30 day trial. I had already downloaded the package but then discovered that it required .NET and I refuse to allow that bloatware on my system. I used UE to extract the expander archive (I think), but it apparently needs to be installed as the exe would not initialize. So I gave up and will rely on UE and Expander v7.
  2. tm2k Thanks for pointing out that there were some updates to the archiver programs. However, I got a bit suspicious when I noticed that the newer 7z.exe in your DL was half the size of the old. So to be safe, I found the authors and downloaded the files. 7-ZIP, MSI2XML & UPX are all Source Forge projects. See links below. It turns out that the 7z size reduction is due to the original file being compressed by UPX. However, although the decompressed sizes and internal version numbers of 7z.exe and msi2xml.exe are identical to the Source Forge files, their contents differ significantly. Your UPX.exe file does match the Source Forge download. Where did you get your files? Can you trust your source? Do you know why they are different then the Source Forge originals? The msi2xml program requires Core XML Services for XP (MSXML, v6) which is available from Microsoft. Note that there is also a critical security update for this package. Expander is now part of a commercial proprietary application and is up to v12. Where did you get the version 7 file that is in your DL? It is in German. Do you know of an English version? 7-ZIP: http://www.7-zip.org/, http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/ UPX: http://upx.sourceforge.net/ MSI2XML: http://sourceforge.net/projects/msi2xml/ Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 Service Pack 1: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...ab-3e9827b70604 Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 and Service Pack 1 (KB933579): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...D2-64443913C976
