    If you were able to do this, wouldn't it be possible for nlite to maybe do the same thing automatically when you insert IE 8 as a hotfix?

    You can only do so much using a setup-schedule. Even the RunOnceEx doesn't work, because installing IE8 requires an active and loaded system, including explorer.exe etc. That's why I proposed the extra batch-file, which worked fine for me.

    But I uninstalled it myself. I wouldn't go all the way with this one. IE8 sucks compared to Firefox. The only reason IE8 can be a good thing is because it has a 64 bit version, and Firefox alpha x64 code is still very bad with none of the Addons and plugins functioning. Then again, what good is IE8 when there are no decent Addons for it?

    start menu small icons

    No, it doesn't set the icon size for the Start Menu.

    Regshot only finds these when I set the Icon size to small for the Classic menu in XP64:

    But I finally found a solution. You should kill explorer and then restart it, and in between make sure you add

    Did any of you actually succeed in accomplishing this, ever?

    I'm breaking my head on this one for XP x64 Edition. None of what is found online does the job.

    I used Regmon for this. Really wonder what the deal is.. it seems to be live activation somehow.

    Again, I succeeded just fine in installing IE8 unattended in XP x64, just using a batch-file that kills itself after auto-logon.

    Put a .bat in $OEM$\$Docs\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ on the image.

    In that .bat put something like this:

    [SOLVED] Switch to x64 for HD video editing ?

    I second the hardware upgrade, processing HD asks a lot out of a system. After that if you're thinking about going to a 64 bit OS, I would go with 64 bit Vista as XP Pro x64 isn't supported as well for drivers. x64 kind of got left out in the cold. I'd be running it now but there is lack of driver support for some of the hardware I use, something to keep in mind. Which version of Vegas are you using? I think Sony is releasing a 64 bit version next year, but I may be mistaken.

    XP Pro x64 is supported just fine for drivers these days. All decent manufacturers port their Vista x64 to XP x64 as well. (It makes no sense to have Vegas or Windows 7 x86_64 drivers and don't compile the XP version for them..)

    I'd go with XP Pro x64 Edition, fastest workstation/rendering OS on the market today, hands down.

    My cousin's been working on a collection of reg patches intended for Windows XP x64 Edition (64 bit, 2003 kernel)

    Some are very different from the ones available here. For that reason I put the file here (it includes personal preferences, so better take a look before applying)!

    (updated 2009 June 9, removed duplicate entries and cleaned up BS and non-functional entries)

    I noticed that the DNSCache entries for most other Windows versions are utter bullocks for Win XP x64 / Server 2003 x64, so here are the best I got in some performance and duration tests on my DSL (1200 kbit/s upstream/21000 kbit/s downstream) and my ISP's DNS-servers etc. :

    is there an optiom for display "quick launch" toolbar?

    you can also create a profile on an xp machine including quicklaunch, wallpaper, desktop icons, pretty much anything you want and copy the profile to $OEM$>$Docs>All Users... this gives you much more power than just quick launch..
    Which is precisely the problem: You can't push everything onto the next install; It would mean one hell of a job installing all user's software unattended etc. Plus resolution, refresh rate, fonts, size and color settings etc. will cause huge problems. The Quicklaunch bar should be separate from that.

    The last issue that I have is that I have to go through three boot screens to boot WinXP:

    1. boot.ini --> Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (Grub4Dos)

    2. menu.lst --> Microsoft Windows XP Pro x64 SP2 (hd0,4)

    3. boot.ini --> Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

    Is there any way to load ntldr64 directly from the second menu, skipping the third step?

    You can always re-install using SyMon to multiboot: http://symon.ru/usr/eng/screens.shtml

    I use it with great success, and it was real easy to just skip the boot.ini by making the other Win installs invisible during install of the next, if you know what I mean. That way you will also be capable of having a C drive as boot-driveletter in all your Windows OSs.

    Why not just copy patched file from nlited source you create, and run tweak?

    here's what you do:

    copy xp x64 source to hd, open nlite, only select to patch sfc, nothing else!. then let nlite do its thing.

    Then just goto the source folder and sort by files last modified, and use logic to find proper files.

    Extract the registry tweaks needed from nlite.inf or such.

    So, has anyone done this yet? I too would like to disable SFC and WFP, not using nlite, on some existing installs of XP x64.

    Kurt aims to make a lot of folders on a DVD size iso, and puts bat-files in the iso-root. I prefer a smaller iso with just a couple of files stacked away on it. Also, Kurt is more about a fully updated installer-release. The software he optionally ads in his batch files is updated so often it is quite insane to create installers with that software integrated. My approach on creating install-iso's is more of the remove as much nonsense as I can type ;-) and I prefer to just use the OS-inherent software.

    Isn't there a way to install it using a batch-file after install has finished, using the $OEM$ folder and putting the .bat deep under Allusers Startup folder? Like this:

    \$OEM$\$Docs\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\lastrun.bat

    To get the IE8 file you could put it on your install-image and find out the drive-letter using

    FOR %%I IN (D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z) DO IF EXIST %%I:\WIN51AP.SP2 (SET CDROM=%%I:& GOTO ISOFOUND)

    :ISOFOUND

    assuming the file WIN51AP.SP2 is in your XP x64 iso root. You can then call the IE8 installer using something like:

    %CDROM%\SOMEDIR-ON-CD\IE8*x64*.exe /quiet /update-no /no-default /norestart

    And then let the batch-file kill itself in the end ;-) something like this:

    powercfg -h off >Nul

    sleep 5

    shutdown.exe -r -f -t 11 -c "Restarting final time.."

    HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)

    Call me crazy, but wouldn't it save you a LOT of time and trouble if you'd just offer an entirely up-to-date iso of Windows XP x64 Edition SP2 today, and then let people use nlite to strip that iso for their personal preferences?

    I for example will remove (not need) IE and OE, nor will I need Windows Defender or many of those installs. Using these batch-files will be obsolete for the most part.

    A question about SFC

    nuhi means that by default, SFC is enabled. Not the patch is enabled but the thing itself is enabled.

    Then it should not be put under patches. One assumes it is Enabling the patch, and the patch is (I assume?) to Disable it.

    It is still unclear to me what to set this to.

    It is called "SFC (Windows File protection", next to that I see the options "Enabled (Default" and "Disabled",

    so, I assume then that putting it in 'Disabled" disables SFC ?

    But when I read what it says below it, it becomes totally unclear what to do, because it says:

    "Disable automatic recovery of replaced and deleted system files and folders. This disables SFC during and after install." etc.

    In short: Enabling it will disable SFC.

    I assure you, there is no logic in this.

    What should we set it to, in order to DISABLE SFC ?

    How to slipstream Vista SP 2 with vlite?

    The cheapest subscription I see is €748.35 excluding VAT/BTW. Don't make me laugh ;-)

    MS should pay me instead. I've done a lot in favor of their OS-market, sorry.

    I don't see how providing an OS-image is dealing in 'warez'. One still needs to throw in a working code, right?

    I'm only interested in recent updated vlited/slipstreamed images because it seems pretty weird, time- and bandwidth-wasting to have to implement the updates for each and every start with vlite you make. Why not provide an up-to-date image, with usability in mind, so one including all languages and key-layouts etc.?

    It would be much wiser (also for Microsoft and in the fight against spam and security-risks in general) to always offer OS-disks up to date, so *including* all the recent patches. It's done this way in the Linux-world for a reason. Just offer them publically, using bittorrent. We use bittorrent for OpenOffice and Linux distro's as well. It's the best way to offer large files like burnable DVD/CD boot-iso's. Nothing 'illegal' about it.

    I have a legal valid license for Vista Business x64, I just don't feel like having to re-create the vlited images from scratch everytime I find out something is not working the way I want to.
