any luck with the recent logs i attached? or should i proceed with the restore to a previous state?
-
as you requested here are the logs with windows update service disabled...hope i did not make a mistake in the procedure you requested and hopefully you might find out what is wrong...thanks in advance for your effort... logs.7z

tried both solutions mentioned in the link but no luck...trying the second method did seem to uninstall some leftovers from previous installation of mse, then restarted my computer as suggested and tried a clean install again but the same error keeps popping up...nothing changed...my only solution would be to rollback to a previous state of my system with norton ghost but if i do that then will there not be any problems again when the system reaches a certain state again(that is right before my problems first originated)?
-
is there any other log file where there might be more info?
-
i cannot see any such thing in windows update history...the latest installed update is kb981889...is that associated in any way to my problem? and i didn't even know there is a SP1 for windows 7 yet...thought there was going to be in summer...
-
here are the logs files...there is also a setuperr.log but it doesn't contain any info(completely empty)...hope this can shed some light...thank you for your effort... logs.7z
-
did try that without success...i am attaching the logs in hope that someone may understand what is going on...msi_logs.7z

thank you for your response...unfortunately i wasn't able to find something different in event viewer...i did what it says in KB and i have the logs available...should i attach them here?

hello there...today i got a notification from microsoft security essentials to upgrade to a newer version...i clicked on upgrade but before the process completed i got the error shown in attachment...after a reboot i found myself with mse uninstalled from my computer since i couldn't find them in add/remove programs...i even uninstalled malwarebytes antimalware just to make sure that no other programs could conflict with the installation of mse...now the only program i have installed is norton ghost but i don't think this is an issue correct? then i entered msconfig and deselected all startup objects and services not related to microsoft and rebooted...once i tried to install mse i got the same error again...i don't know what to do...any other ideas? i have windows 7 installed so windows installer shouldn't be an issue...is rollback to a previous state of my system with ghost the only solution to my problem? thanks in advance...

well i tried open expert and though it is convenient in some of the things i want to do i cannot use it for some other things...for example i would like total commander to be my default browser and when i want to open some folders i want them to be opened in total commander...though i've made it the default action for the account of the administrator it doesn't apply to my user...so is there a way to achieve that for my user as well? that's why i wanted my user to be able to set his own options in "file types"
-
as i said i don't want to do to set the file types through administrator because i have my simple user and i forgot to mention that my sister also uses the pc...so i would like to do it on a per user basis...isn't there any configuration that allows my user to set the file types on his own? Try installing OpenExpert if there really no option thru group policy thanks i will try that...
-
hello there i have a simple user in my windows xp pc so i don't log on as the administrator and i'm having trouble setting the "file types" in "folder options "...my user simply cannot set anything...is there anyway i could do something as an administrator to allow my user set his own applications to open specific file types? maybe an option in group policy(just a speculation,i searched but didn't find anything as i can tell, maybe i missed something)...thanks in advance...
-
thank you it really worked what you suggested...i shouldn't have extracted the driverpack...
-
thank you...i will look into it...
-
i also use method 2 but ended up with this...because i am not sitting at my computer right now i'll post back when i'm at home in a couple of hours... the DriverPack MassStorage that i downloaded after having it extracted i get a folder called "D"...inside there is a folder called M and inside M there are the folders with the drivers of SATA controllers of the various companies...so i basically copy the folder "D" into the "DriverPacks" folder...is this right?? or should i rename it to "DriverPack MassStorage" the folder "D" and then copy it to "DriverPacks" folder?? maybe the slipstream installer is looking for a folder called "DriverPack MassStorage" instead of "D"...what do you think??
-
so you're saying that in my UWXPCD_ROOT folder the folder DPfiles should not be empty?? i did copy the DriverPack MassStorage into the "DriverPacks"...and afterwards i run the slipstreamer the first step...but when i checked the DPfiles in UWXPCD_ROOT directory it is empty...is this normal or not??
-
anyone could help solve my problem please??
-
also when i do the first step i get a folder called "UWXPCD_ROOT" which has 2 folders and a file within...the file is "run_me.cmd" and the 2 folders are "DPfiles" and "M2"...the folder "DPfiles" is completely empty...is this supposed to be happening?? Edit: and this is BTS_DPs_finish.cmd CMDOW @ /HID REM #################################### SET DPS=%SystemDrive%\D SET D=%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\ SET S=%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\ SET DPS_TMP=%SYSTEMROOT%\DriverPacks_temp REM #################################### REM ONLY EDIT THIS FILE IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING! when i'm running run_me.cmd i get the following error [M2] DriverPacks slipstreamed. [M2] necessary files copied. [M2] replaced the real setup by a fake one. [M2] copied PRESETUP.CMD. [M2] WINNT.SIF file updated. [M2] TXTSETUP.SIF updated. [M2] DOSNET.INF updated. [M2] DriverPack MassStorage NOT slipstreamed because it's N/A! back-up of PORTCLS.SYS made...could someone tell me why this is happening??

i've just noticed this topic and downloaded the pack...could someone give me instructions on how to use it in order to make a CD that will identify the drivers for the SATA hard discs before getting to the setup when installing from a WinXP CD?? i have made the image for the cd but don't know where to put the pack and whether there are additional instructions to follow...thanks in advance...
