  1. Why does Vista Basic not show the caps and scroll lock display and Win Xp does? Is there a setting I can access this without downloading questionable software?
  2. Using Vista Home Basic. When I attempt to download a PDF file, the file appears on Note Pad with unintelligible writing. Not true when using Firefox or Opera, only when using AOL.
  3. Not sure of compatibility. How do I determine the compatibility? It sure is getting old having to do a System Restore daily.
  4. I'm sorry I am not sufficiently computer savvy to provide the additional information, but I have discovered one aspect: when I download Microsoft Security Updates, the same problem occurs. I cannot access AOL, Opera, or Firefox unless I perform a system restore prior to the download. Once I do a system restore, the problem is resolved.
  5. Addendum: I discovered when I leave the PC on overnight I do not lose internet contact. It only occurs when I shut down my computer. Could there be a correlation between shutdown and/or startup?
  6. I posted earlier that after I atempted to download SP3 twice without success after getting the following message after about 90% download: access denied. I subsequently downloaded the Xp SP3 blocker. My problem, every time I shut down my PC, I am unable to access the internet. If I do a system restore, everything works well. Any suggestions why this is happening and how to repair the problem? I should add that this problem occurred after the second (and last) SP3 download attempt. The problem is very annoying, to say the least.
  7. I attempted to download SP3 for XP in early June without and the download completed approximately 90% and the following appeared: Access Denied. After reading that some of the problems were rectified, I attempted to download SP#3 again June 11, 2008. The same scenerio occurred, with the same message: Accedd Denied. The download was terminated and the download was automatically uninstalled. There was also a disclaimer, to paraphrase: Some portions of the download will not be uninstalled, which may cause some functions not to work, including wireless networking Well, that is exactly what happened. Mu computer is now super slow and I cannot access the internet via wireless. I tried AOL, Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer without success. Everything on the HD is accessible. What to do? Any assistance appreciated.
