  1. Would you mind providing some urls to slimbyte's tips that you referenced? Thanks! -NKA
  2. Anyone have a solution to the pc password vs access code issue? Update*: I just figured this out, so I will post the solution in case anyone else is interested. *Note you need to have already done the above steps to make your custom LogMeIn install prior to applying the settings below. Open up LogMeIn.msi in Orca, and navigate to "property" Scroll down and change the values of USERPASSWORD & USERVERIFYPWD to whatever you want the PC access code set to for the computers that will be installing LogMeIn on. If you have a batch file set up for the silent install, change the values of USERPASSWORD & USERVERIFYPWD to the same PC access code that you set for the LogMeIn.msi property settings in Orca. My batch file looks like this: logmein.msi /qb- USERPASSWORD=******* USERVERIFYPWD=******* USEREMAIL=email@gmail.com USERWEBPASSWORD=password LicenseType=free For those that are new to batches: Open up a blank text document using notepad or similar Enter the info above (replacing the *'s with the PC access code password that you set, and replacing the value of the useremail and password with your own LogMeIn account info). Save as filename.BAT *Once that is complete, any user that wants to install LogMeIn on their computer using your Custom install, just has to double click on your batch file, and presto, LogMeIn nearly silently installs with no errors, and most importantly, the PC access code is set automatically. I hope that helps anyone else who was seeking to perform the Silent install, but was running into the issue of having to know the username and password for each computer that you wanted to remotely access through LogMeIn. The only issue that I still have, is that anyone who you send the Custom LogMeIn install will have access to your LogMeIn account online, because they can just get your email and LogMeIn password from the batch file. Anyone know of a way to protect this information from clients? -NKA PS: Sorry for the Caps, but that is how they are displayed in Orca and the batch.
  3. Thanks so much for the changes to the .msi and for the .bat instructions for the silent install. What a time saver! Regarding the pc password versus access code. A lot of the people that I install this on have no pc password, and usually in this case, LMI will ask them to create and verify an Access Code. Assuming that the person does NOT have a pc password set for their computer, what will the access code be if I use the batch script for the silent install? Is there a way to edit the .msi or the .bat to account for this circumstance, and if so, how? Also, some of my customers are Mac users. Is there a similar method to edit the LMI installer on the Mac? Thanks! -NKA
  4. *Update: Also, using Process Explorer I investigated the offending svchost.exe process and manually terminated services running under it, until I noticed a reduction in CPU. Once I disabled Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), the CPU usage of the svchost.exe that was consuming 98% CPU, dropped almost to zero. I then disabled the startup of BITS from services.msc, and restarted. Upon startup, to my surprise, BITS had been enabled despite the fact that I disabled it. However, svchost.exe no longer behaved like it did before. So...so far, everything is working fine. I'm getting fed up though with this back-and-forth and if the problem keeps up, I will have to reformat. Thanks for your help, I have disabled the services that you suggested using msconfig and services.msc, and set them to manual, although a lot of them were already set to "manual". Thanks, NKA
  5. Correction, I Had Setup.exe, if you look at the latest HJT file, you will see that Setup.exe is no longer there. I have also used AVG Antivirus and checked for malware and nothing has come up. In addition I have already used Process Explorer as well, but how do I know what is malware or not by hovering over the processes? Thanks! -NKA
  6. Well, I thought that the problem was fixed, but after restarting XP again, the problem has come back! Svchost.exe is maxing out the CPU after I login to windows. In addition, my taskbar seems to be switching themes from Royal Noir to XP Classic after I manually terminate svchost.exe from the Task Manager. Here is a fresh HJT log: Please let me know what steps I should take to figure out why this is happening. Thanks! -NKA
  7. Thanks, I believe that this issue is now resolved. I will investigate what is attached to svchost.exe using the code that you provided. Thanks so much for your help, this CPU issue was driving me nuts. Next time I have a problem, I will come here first, and same myself a lot of headache. -NKA
  8. My apologies on the quote/code tagss. As per your suggestion I looked at the results for MyVBApp, and deleted all relevant entries from the registry. Hopefully that will alleviate the problem. Although, I don't understand why svchost.exe would be affected by MyVBApp's setup.exe running at startup? Why wouldn't the setup.exe be showing in the Taskmanager as maxing the CPU? Maybe it is so that the malware can be better hidden? Thanks for your help. -NKA
  9. Thanks for the reply. I have disabled Setup.exe as you have suggested (I used msconfig, please let me know if there is a better way to do this). However, I dont think that is the problem, because even with Setup.exe running, the computer seems to be working fine. It is just that the CPU maxes to nearly 100% at startup and svchost.exe seems to be between 95-98% of the CPU. Do you think that the Setup.exe is the issue? Thanks! -NKA PS: Here is a fresh HJT log:
  10. Hello, Ever since I upgraded to SP3 (Dell Dimension 4600, 2 GB DDR SDRAM, 2.4 GHZ P4), svchost.exe is maxing out the CPU at startup. I can go into taskmanager.exe and manually end the offending process, however this is quite irritating and should not be happening. Any idea on how to fix this? Thanks! Here is a HJT log after cleaning the computer with AVG Antispyware: -NKA
