  1. I'm a total slipstreaming noob, and I'm hoping someone can show me the error I have apparently made. Though I don't know where I had the opportunity to. I recently read an article on ZDNet about slipstreaming SP3 into a Windows XP source. http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1848 Anyway, I followed the instructions to the letter. I added in SP3, IE7, WMP11 and the DST update. All per the instructions in the blog. Again, to the letter. The only thing I added were a couple of theme add-ons which I got by browsing this site (Signed MS themes and Royale Remixed, both packaged for use with nLite). The slipstreaming process went great. Got a clean ISO on the other end and made a disk out of it. PROBLEM #1: Slipstreaming on Vista with the latest version of nLite makes the product key be rejected when installing. So, easily resolved, I just did the slipstream over again (from the beginning) on an XP machine. That got me past the product key denial. So, I proceeded to install my shiny new copy of Windows without the ton of updates I usually have to install after-the-fact. Almost. The Windows installation completed and I looged into Windows for the first time expecting to see all the goodies I had added to the disk. WRONG. PROBLEM #2: It said it was SP3, so that part worked. But, IE7, WMP11 and the themes were MIA. I mean totally gone. Not even a previous version. Just not there at all. The resources folder for the themes was not even there. Also, the networking was totally borked. The network card showed in the device manager as working properly, but there was no LAN icon in the Network window. I added it, but it still didn't work. The installation was just complete crap from all angles. Needless to say, I am now reinstalling from an SP2 disk. Can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong? I would love to have a Windows disk with these updates already on it. What a time saver!!! Thanks!
