  1. Hi @ll :

In the last weeks i made a discussion board for admins, "upcomming admins" and all who are interested in stuff like Windows Server & Client Systems, Linux Server & Clients, Novell Netware and other kind of server systems like Web-, FTP-, Mail-, Proxyservers and so on.

Since i bagan training in MS Systems and Cisco, it was very hard to find boards like that in german. So i offered a little money and made it myself. The Team isn't very big 'till now, but it'll getting better over the time I hope.

What I want to say you... taka a look it and let me know, if something's wrong.

    Greetings

  2. Hey all !

I know, that you might not want to hear a "sauerkraut voice" but I think I should tell you another opinion.

To work with modern technic wihtin a very modern warfare and the human stress inside each soldier (made by war), is very hard to manage. This is not a way to excuse the mistakes made in the last days, but a thing we all have to keep in mind ! To make mistakes is human and it's happening between our ears. I think that all involved military troops do their very best and they give all that they have inside to be victorious within a very shot time. So... please don't accuse the guys doing their job for you.

With the best soldierluck to the troops in iraq

  3. Hi guys !

I wasn't here for a long time - and I'm sorry about that ! But this evening (in europe) while "the world" is going to have a war in Iraq, I was interested in the different opinions about all these things. I haven't read all postings at this time (but i will do) and I'm not very very proud about all the stuff that happened the last weeks but I want you to read the lines, written by Chris de Burgh because I think, that this is all we could say about wars in the world.

    Borderline

    Chris de Burgh

    I'm standing in the station,

I am waiting for a train,

To take me to the border,

And my loved one far away,

I watched a bunch of soldiers heading for the war,

    I could hardly even bear to see them go;

    Rolling through the countryside,

    Tears are in my eyes,

    We're coming to the borderline,

    I'm ready with my lies,

And in the early morning rain, I see her there,

    And I know I'll have to say goodbye again;

And it's breaking my heart, I know what I must do,

I hear my country call me, but I want to be with you,

I'm taking my side, one of us will lose,

Don't let go, I want to know,

That you will wait for me until the day,

    There's no borderline, no borderline;

    Walking past the border guards,

    Reaching for her hand,

    Showing no emotion,

I want to break into a run,

But these are only boys, and I will never know,

How men can see the wisdom in a war...

And it's breaking my heart, I know what I must do,

I hear my country call me, but I want to be with you,

I'm taking my side, one of us will lose,

Don't let go, I want to know,

That you will wait for me until the day,

    There's no borderline, no borderline...

    No borderline, no borderline...

I'm very dissapointed that all political methods fail and that we'll have to see a lot of innocent people die !

Think about all the soldiers... they have to do their job and all their families - think about all the civilians... they never want this war.

    Me, and I'm a soldier too, I don't want this war !

Tell me guys : When we can discuss all kinds of themes and threads all over world in every kinds of boards and newsgroups no difference which nationality we are... why can't we live together in peace ?

    Best wishes to you

  4. Hi gamehead200

I had the same probs with my linksys router. I've found the following way only to make the things work :

Look at the advanced config menu under the toppic "DMZ Host" and enter the IP of your FTP Server here (comment of linksys :This feature sets a local user to be exposed to the Internet. Any user on the Internet can access in/out data from the DMZ host. Enable the feature as you wish to use special-purpose service). So when you use this feature, be shure to have a firewall installed on your FTP machine and make the port 21 available !

Oh... and another tip : The Linksys Routers are available at 192.168.1.xxx. Be shure to have your local network in the same address range (192.168.1.xxx with a Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0)

  5. @GeForce-5 : Don't know if PQ Magic8 lets you do that, sorry.

@DumDum : Hey Guy... move your head up ! When you are a little experienced in NTFS you will do nothing without it. But... I can't understand why it didn't work on your machine. I've tried it here at home and it worked fine. As Administrator you can take the ownership of any files on your system / hd !

  6. Sorry gamehead200 but as far as I know you can not downconvert from NTFS to FAT32. From FAT to NTFS is ok but it won't work the other way.

    @DumDum :

Login as Admin or a user with admin privilegs and open the Explorer. Do a right klick on the folder you want to access and choose properties and on the properties dialogue choose security. Klick the button at the right side ... in the german release it's called "Erweitert" - I think it should be "advanced" in the english release(Don't know how the button in your release is called). In the following dialogue you can take the ownership of the folders and subfolders.

The reason for your trouble is that you made a new install. The users you created on the fresh system have the same name and pass, but the system gave them a different SID (Security ID) so that they are not the same than before...

  7. Hey guys !

...and especially lynchknot : Ja, ich habe einen guten Tag !

If anyone of you decides to travel to germany, gimme an PN and you'll be welcome at "my castle" :)

@MSNwar : I traveled to the States 2 years ago (to NewMexico & Texas) and what miss 'till today are the great burgers with french fries, or brownies with french toast, eggs sunny side up and beacon for breakfast every friday morning. I stayed there for about 3 months and it was a great time !

Oh what I forgot to ask : Do you like Schnitzel with Pils (beer) or Schnitzel with Pilze (mushrooms)... ? I think you mean the Pils

  8. @zipp51 :

I always wanted to install Linux sed ,how can I get a free copy?Any good sites about it?

I have a official DL Site for you and all o´ther guys, who wont to learn, what other OSes do and haow they function.... try this ISO Page to get the Version you like to have. Mess and play around with it... and have fun. Your result will be : Other people make great Operating Systems too.

I'm not a really fan of Linux... (the things we have to do for money - hehe) but I like that KDE 3 with its features. Last but not least I like way the Linux system can look like in a LAN : Whatever you want (NT Server, Novell... emulate it for free) !

  9. Hi !

good to see other boards koala, as its a shame we dont have a multilingual comunity here

Most english communities are multilingual in a special way... I think most people have a little bit of "english-experience". So the best way for international communication is in english.

The Sauerkrauts is a WW2 relict, as far as I know. To me it sounds a little bit funny and that inspired me to use it here :)

@FthrJACK : Good to know, that you visited "us" and had a great bratwurst - hehe. We have a lot of other great meals too, so I tell you that you've missed a lot. I hope that I'll find the time and the money, to visit your country. In "AoE 2 The Conquerors" I allways choose the "British" because of the archers...

  10. Hy Guys !

For all people, that are interested in a German Board with a friendly atmosphere in a very special round of users... try this : www.gletscherboard.info

We've got a lot of toppicks about comp and also a lot of no-comp-tops. Feel free to join us.

At this time I wanna thank you, guys (admins and mods), for keeping the msfn board running. It's a nice place for me, to see what's up to the M$ Users in other locations than Germany. I will make a thread for your board in ours too.

My best wishes to all boardies here

  11. Hi FthrJACK

    ...

you want to make a shared folder on the server that only you and your friends cand get it, and nobody else can even see its there being shared, right?

...no, that isn't the thing I want to do (but it sounds nice - hehe).

My problem is, that an admin is getting the ownership of files with the excuse of needing the permissions for a backup. That seems a little strange to me. In that kind of data there are a lot of privacy things like names, address, phone numbers and a lot of other stuff too. This only for my and my co workers eyes and nobody else (german law).

I don't acept the excusion with explanations of backup and so on. But before I tell him about his mistake I should be shure that there's no backup soft that needs that kind of permissions ^_^

  12. Call me paranoid, but something sounds very suspicious there.

ooh yes... also to me ... seems like somebody wants to make an excuse to me. I think he know's about his mistake, but it was not the first time he (and his team = about 20 people, admins and help admins) did things like this. I don't know and I can't understand why he's taking ownership of data, that other poeple had created.

In this case, he was getting ownership of that special kind of personal data... and I know that this is a mistake.

While I got my M$ Courses, one of our MCTs has told us a lot of this kind of data handling and like it was yesterday I hear his words in my ear : " Beware of getting ownership of user created data especially personal data.... and I believe to his words ! German Law is like Chewing Gum but in the case of personal data it's very rough.

The best of this story is that nobody in the leading of our company gives a piece of privacy.....

    Best wishes

  13. Hi @ll !

I know it's my first posting here but my problem is as big as an elephant and I think that here are enough people to know what I ask ! At this point I want to excuse me for my poor english... but you will know what I'm talkin' about.

    The problem is :

@ work ... I made a few folders and files on our domain controller and gave explicite NTFS permissions to me and a few colleagues and nobody else. Next workday when I had a look on my files the permissions were changed to full permission to the admin. I'm an MCP and I know about the things going on in the domain, so I called the admin. He told me about his (poor) backup system (and a lot of other s*** too) and that he and his "admin-team" need full access to the hole data to make a backup of it (There are a couple of NT/2000 servers and also a few Linux machines (backup is running on Linux)). I don't know any backup programs that need full access permission to make a backup.

The biggest problem for me is that the files are containing a lot of personal data because in Germany we have a lot of trouble with law and personal data. At this time I can't guarantee for the files I'm workin' on and I can't guarentee for the data security against my co workers.

My question is : Does anybody of you know a backup soft that needs full access permissions to the data or makes automatically full access to the admins while it's backing up ?

As far as I know is the best way of an admin to lay no hand at the data and it's permissions... am I right ?

    best wishes to all boardies
