  1. This'll be last post in this thread, this forum, heading off to software.... However comma but: J2RE had to be removed due to consistent conflicts with this XP build. Sys had been stable, only reason to change anything was to enable Java applets. All the hardships discussed over in SW about this issue (browser speed loss, instability, drops, etc.) have proven true in a fresh build with all updates, which is surprising given the time since the issue was initially identified and discussed. It's a **** shame, and more effort than it oughta be. out.
  2. AaronXP, thanks for the assist. Uninstalled, reinstalled (offline; online bombed)mode) and all works as advertised. Found a thread in SW r.e. pros/cons between JRE & MSVM.....not gonna sweat it (the 3809/3810 back loading didn't sound like much fun either). MS site still says they're wrapping up in '07. Sun's already got 1.5 beta out. another learning opportunity completed. Forums work! (as long as you remember the old adage about free advice!). thanx.
  3. Looks like it may be an unsuccessful J2RE install. "java -version" command netted "error occurred during initialization of VM, java/language/noclassdeffound", "error: java/lang/object" Rechecked control panel, no "Java Plug-In" folder/shortcut present. No "Java (Sun)" item listed under Advanced tab in Internet Options. No install errors popped while loading the install. Tree = C\PF\Java\J2RE1.4.2_04, -Bin, -JAVAWS, -Lib. Tried Java Plug In Control Panel exe, which got "Cannot find reg key: Hkey_Local_Machine\SW\Java soft\Java Plug In\1.4.2". Also tried Web Start which got "Bad Installation, No JRE found in config file". So if English is still English, seems prettly clear I need to uninstall, and give it another go. Thanks for the assist.
  4. Bashrat: Yes, reboots after any/all significant changes/updates/installs. AaronXP: will try it tonight when home. Thanx.
  5. Hi, new sys build, fresh XP Home install, current and stable. IE6 will not run Java applets (discovered trying to do Real Estate video tours), says Java enabled browser required. Verified IE options/settings, both in Security/Custom & Advanced to ensure Java scripting enabled. No go. Found out about MS & Sun VM crapola, verified VM is not installed on this machine (don't need it), so no permissions to set here. Tried installing (both on & offline) j2RE v1.4.2_x. Install appears ok, but still no go in browser. What'd I miss? Checked numerous net sites FAQs, forums, etc. Couldn't find a fix for this. Thanx.
