  1. I'm trying to figure out how to get a boot process like the one used on the XP CD, where it unloads the necessary files to a temporary ram disk and then runs setup from there, allowing you to create/modify partitions on installed disks and select a partition for installation. I've tried simply copying all XP files to the flash disk and booting into dos with using a floppy boot sector, but this method causes the installer to hang at checking or answer files... it seems like the usb connection is lost or something. Anyway, input appreciated
  2. OK not to sound like a total newb, but how do I check the MD5 (I've always wondered this, just never bothered to figure out how ) EDIT - well I found a utility for doing so, and the checksums appear to match, so I guess I'm OK. But just for future reference... does Windows have any built-in method for checking the MD5? Or must I always use a 3rd party tool?
  3. The version shown on my desktop (if I enable that option with TweakUI) is Windows XP Professional Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 (Service Pack 2) I thought the last four numbers should be 2180? Also in properties of My Computer, it says "Physical Address Extension" under my amount of system memory. I thought final versions of Windows were not supposed to have this? Got my SP2 from the first link on IANAG.com, and it matches the exact file size listed here on MSFN, but the digital signature is 6:06:58 AM instead of whatever is listed (11 something?) Any help/input appreciated!
  4. nice, very nice, just the news I was hoping to hear. Thanks for all the input fellas!
  5. Just wondering, if I slipstream SP2 into an XP classic (pre-SP1) disc, will it include WMP9, or do I still have to add that in separately with svcpack.inf? Thanks!
  6. these two hotfixes, KB835732 and KB826939, are both part of my svcpack.inf file, and they both show in my add/remove panel as already being installed, but when I go to windows update, it says I need them. In fact, even after I install them through windows update, reboot, and check windows update again, it STILL says that I need them! What's going on here? PS - the hotfix names are Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Windows XP (KB826939) and Security Update for Windows XP (KB835732) any help is greatly appreciated!
  7. why not just export the registry key and then reimport it during the start.cmd/runonceex process?
  8. hmm ok well nevermind, figured it out... the files needed extracting but the setup.iss file still isn't in the windows folder, it's in the temp folder where the setup files are extracted to... dunno where all this windows folder mumbo jumbo came from
  9. Can anyone help me with this? I've tried the switch both as -r and -R and I've tried using other setup.iss files that I've found with -s and -S and -s setup.iss and -S setup.iss and yet nothing is working. I think the obvious problem is that no setup.iss file is appearing in my windows folder as everyone is telling me it should. What can I do?
