  1. I know that on my companys PC workstations the docs and settings is on the other partition and everytime I boot it up, a command windows pops up for a split second and has the follwoing info. D:\ Documents and settings\Username net use g: \\servername\cd_inst and the window disappears.. Do I have to create a batch file for this too? I want to accomplish the same procedure as on my companys workstation is to move the entire DOCS and SETTINGS folder onto this partition.
  2. Hi, Well, just to let you guys know that I am not on a domain network. This is just 2000 standalone and since Im running Virtual PC, I am willing to try anything without destroying my original registry settings and system files while getting my hands dirty so to speak. I want the Documents and Settings directory in my other partititon (D). Hi, Almost forgot... What about in the Indexing Service, what about If I change the path of the Docs and Settings to the D partition under there??? Wil lthat work? Is there any way to this please?
  3. Where in Group Policy can I check it??? Please explain. And Group Policy is just for security and is not for folder redirection.
  4. Hello to All, Can you please help? After a standard Win2000 installation, I had created a logical partition (D) and I what I want to achieve is to move the Documents and Settings directory FROM the © System Partition onto that logical partition. I came across one articale that explains this using the registry and its for ONE username or for one username at a time... I want ALL usernames or whatever is in the Docs and Settings to be in my logical partition instead, so when I have to reinstall Windows or Repair, alot my profiles will be intact... Thank You and Best Regards
  5. I just finished my winnt.sif file (WindowsXP PRO) and it appears that it also created a file named: UNATTEND.BAT I know that the WINNT.SIF needs to be placed in the i386 FOLDER.....But what about that UNATTEND.BAT??? Is this needed to be copied into the I386 folder as well??
  6. Hi, I finished up my winnt.sif file and Im ready to burn it onto a DVD. A few questions though.... 1. What IMAGE FILE do I need in order for the new DVD-Bootable media to work on start-up?? Because I did one for Win2000 Pro, and I had to locate a image file called MICROSOFT CORPORATION.IMG..... So what would be for the XP and where should I copy and paste this into? 2. Also, whar type of DVD-Rs should I get??? Should I get the + or - R ?? Please help.
  7. And more question and this may be complicated but its not that important... In the answer file, how can make Windows installer to sselect the 24-HR time format??? For example: HH:MM...
  8. Hi...I checked my other PC and guess what..It does have another CDRW drive...Like this: C: Windows D: CD E: CD Now, would this mean that I have to change my answer file to this now??? F DOCS and SETTINGS
  9. Thanks alot...Very great info indeed... One last question. Were my ProfileDirectory is which is ProfilesDir="E :\Documents and Settings˝ The guide you linked me to shows it as this with the added \ at the end. And I dont... Will it still install this directory to the E partition without \ at the end? Im sorry to be so detailed here.
  10. Hello, What If I dont enter any quotation marks, will this cause problems during install?
  11. You have been huge help... So what if some entries do not have the quotation marks??? Will that cause problems??
  12. Thanks for all your replies. One last questions... So, can you confirm if I have this right in my WINNT.SIF file? Is everything seem OK as below? Please confirm before I make a another Bootable CD. This for Windows 2000 Pro. Does the winnt.sif require the quotation marks because some entries do have the quotation markings and some dont. ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=No [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=XXXXXXXX AutoLogon=Yes AutoLogonCount=1 OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=85 OemSkipWelcome=1 ProfilesDir="E:\Documents and Settings" [userData] FullName=XXXX ComputerName=XXXXX ProductKey=XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX [Display] BitsPerPel=32 Xresolution=1024 YResolution=768 Vrefresh=75 [identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes
  13. I have ONLY ONE physical HDD in my system...Thats all. So....would then say its most likely to be the E ???
  14. Ok, thats OK. So I have to just edit my winnt.sif file as this??? [GuiUnattended] ProfilesDir="E:\Documents and Settings" Is this correct?? But is this 100 percent sure that Windows will take the other partition as the E drive?? And another question...Does the winnt.sif require the quotation marks because some entries do have the quotation markings.
  15. Ok, I have one other issues with this though. I want my Profiles (as seen below) to be placed in the D partitiion. [GuiUnattended] ProfilesDir="D:\Documents and Settings" Now how will I know WHICH DRIVE LETTER (when creating the other partition in the UNPARTITIONED SPACE) will it assign as my unattended answer file will look like the one above?? How can I ensure that the installation will place this profile under the D letter when creating a new partition under the UNPARTITIONED SPACED during install???
