  1. I have 1 cat5 drop to our 2 man room. The ISP is US COMZ ran by AAFES. Heres my connection info when i connect 1 PC to the outlet.

    172.40.48.248 IP

    255.255.255.255 Subnet

    172.40.1.1 Gateway

When I attach the "line in" to the switch port, and plug the laptops to the rest of the switch ports. I get nothing. Any ideas.. Its like soon as I connect the "line in" the switch ports on the router stops functioning.

  2. Windows XP slipstreamed with SP3, IE7, WMP11, with all updates up to December 2008.I pretty much just put these updates listed above in the HF folder and they don't seem to be making it through because when I run windows update after its all installed these are the updates that need to be downloaded yet.

I am probably not putting them in the correct place. I haven't done much with slipstreaming as of yet.

Anyone of some help on this one?

This also does this on a different hard drive just with a different application. This unit has 4x 512mb memory sticks in it. I have removed all but one, and swapped that one out, and they all do it.

  4. I have 2 things I want to accomplish with a VB script.

    1. I have pinned a shortcut to Microsoft Update to the start menu but it shows up as its .exe name "wupdmgr.exe" Is there a way to rename a pinned start menu item?

    2. This one is far off, is there a way to script the "changing" of a local users profile icon picture? E.g. the default is usually a fish or something, I want our company logo.

    Any help is appreciated.

  5. Thata what i would do. There is also a role in R2 that deals with printers. Also check out the active directory options for pushing out printers. Then at last, there are allways startup scripts you can run at logon to add the printer to your clients. I cant point you in the right idrection because im on my bb and have no resources in front of me atm.

  6. Currently I have a client that uses straight up RDP to connect to a server so they can use a specific application. This company should not be using RDP due to the nature of the data that this application uses. (health insurance information & other confidential account info). My thought was to enable Routing and Remote Access for these remote clients. Alot of these clients are not the smartest of users so minimal "extra steps" will be nice.

Can RDP be secured in order to prevent confidentiality breach of their data?

  7. I did some research and it may be that it cant contact the domain dns. So I checked the DC event log and heres what I found:

The DNS server was unable to complete directory service enumeration of zone contoso.local. This DNS server is configured to use information obtained from Active Directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and repeat enumeration of the zone. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error.

    ?

  8. The CA server:

here are some recent log entries for the certsvc:

-Could not connect to the Active Directory. Certificate Services will retry when processing requires Active Directory access.

-The "Windows default" Policy Module "Initialize" method returned an error. The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. The returned status code is 0x8007054b (1355). The Active Directory containing the Certification Authority could not be contacted.

    userenv service errors:

-Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted. x2

  9. I try to request a certificate through web enrollment it says the same.

"An unexpected error has occurred: The Certification Authority Service has not been started."

It seems to have broke itself??

Anyway. I got ssl website to work with user authenticated session certificates. Just the web enrollment broke for some reason.

My CA, IIS, and DC servers all have delegation for all services, enabled.

I need the web enrollment as a way to get the root ca distributed down. This is a lab environment so I am trying to do it the "right way"
