  1. haha, the question is, what is your contribution of any worth to me... i've been fiddling about this problem for a week now, and i'm tiring, i will not give (de aanhouder wint om het maar even te verduidelijken)... i want to solve this problem, the only matter that i'm concernd of is that after this problem there will be another and another, and i'm getting tired of it... The system stops the install for no reason, at least no reason which i could think of, perhaps any of you guys knows why?
  2. hello, Well, i've been very busy with the preparation of an unattended install via a network.... so far i've gotten: \ a bootdisk * recieves an IP-adres via DHCP * Maps a drive K: to SRV\windist * Executes k:\i386\winnt.exe /u:k:\i386\winnt.sif /s:k:\i386 this install is done on a pentium 350Mhz machine with 128 megs of ram and a 4GB fat32 partition... Finally i've gotten the install to start, what happens now, it loads all the files etc. and then comes the screen, "copying files to hard drive"(bad translation?), in which it seems to hang itself up, it's like there's no activity anymore... What do i need to do, to keep it going edit: i forgot to mention that i stated a convert to NTFS in the answer file, could it be that it is performing the conversion??? edit2: well after 20 minutes it still doesn't do anything, i hit the num-lock does respond, i don't have a clue what is causing this, it's really frustrating though, 1st i had the problem that the share wasn't accessible, then i had the problem that there wasn't an active partition that couldn't be reached and then i had the problem that there wasn't enough memory to run winnt.exe... now i run into the "it stops during the"copy process"...
  3. Does anyone know how much memory is needed to run winnt.exe in DOS... My Config.sys looks like this below... DEVICEHIGH=A:\HIMEM.SYS DOS=HIGH,UMB LASTDRIVE=Z DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /i:A:\NET DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\EL90X.DOS DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\NTSTS.DOS DEVICEHIGH=A:\NET\DLSHELP.SYS FILES=40 BUFFERS=40 And the autoexec.bat @ECHO OFF SET PATH=A:\NET\;a:\;%PATH%; SET TEMP=A:\ SET TCPHELP=A:\NET SET ETCDIR=A:\NET A:\NET\NET START A:\NET\NET.EXE USE K: \\srv\windist how can i get more memory available NOTE: it is PC DOS 7.10 NOTE2: At the moment i use 344k of conventional and 312 xms... No Upper or reserved is used...
  4. i think the problem is related to the client, the server has 512 MB memory... The client however is booted with a floppy drive, which starts PC dos 7.10, and that's the problem, because there are certain networkdrivers which need to be loaded in order to connect to the share on the win2k3 server... Once i am able to free up enough memory to start winnt.exe (i can start it already, but it prompts me in the bleu screen that i don't have enoug mem) my project is finished... I really hope anyone could help me with this...
  5. hello, my big effort to get an unattended installation through a networkshare is almost complete... I've managed so far to : * Create a share on my server (\\SRV\Windist , containing i386) * Create an answer file (placed in i386) * Create a bootdisk which maps K: to the share * Access files and execute files on the share (share is on a win2k3 adv srv) * To execute Winnt.exe without the prompt : "unable to create blabla" Now the latest step in my sequence is to execute winnt.exe and start the installation unattended (Winnt.exe /u:K:\I386\winnt.sif s:K:\i386) It works but after a few seconds and the message in the grey bar, reading dos-inf or something like that i get the message : "not enough memory, setup cannot continue" (my xp version is dutch so i need to translate it for u) Anyone any idea's are there programms that give me more memory or which enable to continue to install.... cuz i'm getting tired... With kind regards, Thies
  6. indeed i found that on the faq section of your HOWTO-create-unattended-cd-guide Thx anyway , i'll be visiting this site very often!
  7. Justin, That bootdisk thing u where asking for... I need such a bootdisk to, i have created a share with the i386 folder in it... but then i want to boot the client in such a manner that i can access the folder on the server and run the unattend.bat... But 1st i need that bootdisk, some help would be greatly appreciated
  8. yes i use setupmgr to create the answer file... And the answerfile works perfectly up until the process after installation... The 1st real startup of Winxp, there's a small setup in which ppl can register windows and following ppl can enter usernames etc. I don't want that wizard i, i just want windows to start without it...
  9. Hello all, I'm getting a hang on this site, really cool information an usefull info is to be found here, i was wondering if anyone could help me with this one.. I've created "THE" unattended CD which is to be found on the page... But now after the installation i get this "minisetup" with the registration questions & usernames etc. Can't i skip this step, and if so what lines should i add to winnt.sif?
  10. Well i thought unattended install via network could be realised by using a floppy which brings me to a share (i386) containing a unattend.bat and a unattend.txt ... Didn't get it that way... Now i've installed Remote Installation Services... My client systems do have PXE support. When i start a client system i will be prompted to press f12 to start the remote installation... But then in the second screen i get the message : "The system cannot find the path specified" And below the path "D:\RemoteInstall\OSChooser\English\LOGIN.OSC Perhaps it's because my image is from a dutch version of the WINXP i want to install??? Could anyone provide me with a clou to overcome this problem?
  11. Starting, to get anxious, someone in here knows how to create a share and make it available for LAN-booing (PXE?)
  12. i want to add to this just to make clear what my intentions really are... I want to use the Windows XP unattended installation from a network distribution share. I want to be able to go to each workstation and boot with a network floppy/usb stick to begin the installation. And really the only problem that i have is the floppy/usb-stick that enables me to boot the system and install XPpro
  13. hello, i want to deploy XPpro from a network share on a 2003 server... I want to deploy XPpro to machines with NTFS-partitions, no cd-drives and sometimes no floppy drives... What should i do, i tried to create a bootdisk which would provide me a mapping to the share, but i didn't got it right... really getting desperate because the other problem with bootdisks is that even with a cd-rom player i couldn't install because the XPpro installation doesn't see the NTFS partition... I'm outta options and really want to make some progress... P.S. when there was 2000 on a machine and i ran unattended.bat from the share the installation worked perfectly...
